Hey Purple Bears!!!
We will be adding some scrimmages to help us get ready for Playoffs. I'm setting it up so everyone gets to play. They will not count in our win-loss record since they are just "scrimmages". Stay tuned for updates.
March Madness is coming!
Girls -
Once again we will be entering the March Madness City Tourney. I take the whole team and I think we are young enough to be in the young division.....
You will need BIRTH CERTIFICATES! So get them and we will collect them after Feb. Break. If you get them sooner give them to MS. HOMAN - not to me. You know why.
Camps
February is the time to start thinking about basketball camp. Holy Cross is popular and it fills up quickly. I will try to get some flyers (if any of you who have attended in the past get flyers, bring me some). Worcester State has one that is more reasonably priced.

Jackets vs. Sweatshirts
So far it's pretty even - it's the year to get jackets but if you guys would rather have the sweatshirts we can do that. If you want sweatshirts instead of jackets we could add the Bear Paw on the back so it makes it really "your year". You guys keep discussing it and let me know by the end of next week. I'll place the order but will hold off on the lettering until we see if we are City Champs. Could also hold off until March Madness in case we win that? Think about it.
Tournament schedule
Hey Girls!
When I got home today I had an email giving me the tourney dates.
Here they are:
Thursday, Feb. 2 AT BMS against East Middle.
(Might be a double header with the boys - We would play first at 2:30 or 2:45).
Then WHEN we win - we would play on Tuesday, Feb. 7 against either Forest Grove or Sullivan.
So mark those dates. Snow days might impact the schedule but plan on those dates for now.
Shoelaces
Ever heard of them? Try them sometime - they do a GREAT job of holding your shoes on your feet!!
Still no winner!!
We still have no winner in the "who's going to shoot at the wrong hoop" sweepstakes. Maybelline was very close a couple of times today!!!
Possible change of Championship game
Girls-
I may need to change the Feb. 7th date for the Championship game as I have a scheduling conflict on that day. I will call the coach from whoever wins tomorrow (FG or Sullivan) and see what I can set up.
It may be Feb. 8th (if FG) or Feb. 9th if Sullivan. I won't know until this Friday.

Watch American Idol!
Hey - if any of you are interested - the girl who is singing on American Idol (Channel #6 at 8:00 pm on Thursday) is one of the top basketball players in Massachusetts right now!
Ayla Brown - she plays at Noble & Greenough (in Boston).
Championship Game Date change!
I went to the Sullivan vs. Forest Grove game today - Sullivan won 17-8.
We will play for the City Championship on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 4:00 pm.
We will have practice on Tuesday after school and then immediately after school on Thursday before the game.
The boys will play at home on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and I'd really like it if you guys could stay for the game. I think they play Sullivan so game time will be around 3:45. If any of you are interested in hanging out at school until game time that day let me know - maybe we can get snacks or I can see about getting some computer time?
Sullivan played a really scrappy, tough defense so be prepared Tuesday to do alot of "diving for the ball" drills! They scored almost all of their points on steals and fast breaks.

Undefeated City Champs!
Congratulations Purple Bears on winning the City Championship over Sullivan by a score of 27-21. Everyone played and we are the first team in at least 6 years to finish the season undefeated! For the 8th graders, that makes your two year record something like 27-1 !! Great job!

March Madness Update
Just wanted to let you guys know that we may HAVE to split the teams as we have 16 players on our roster. March Madness guy might have us split - if we do we will have an older and younger team so we won't play each other. Older team will be the starting 5 (Ali, Amiee, Kat, Chelsea, Shayla) and then Clare, Beena and Yerika. Younger team will be Danielle, Julie, Lauren, Vicky, Maybelline, Jesenia, Julia and Liz Morse. I haven't heard from the guy in terms of times or dates or even if we Have to split - as soon as I hear I'll let you know.

End of the Season Banquet
We will have our banquet at the end of the March Madness tourney. I've had suggestions of Papa Ginos but I'm open to other ideas.

Staff/Student game
Hasn't been scheduled yet - probably the 2nd week of March or so. We want to give you time to practice - you're going to need it! Did I mention that we haven't been beaten EVER by the students????? We may be old and slow but we're smart!

American Idol update
If anyone is interested - the girl from Boston, Ayla Brown, has made it to the final 24 on Idol. She is one of the top 5 girls in the state for basketball and is going to Boston College on a full ride basketball scholarship. I don't think she'll win Idol but it will be interesting to watch! She should be missing some games right at tourney time if she's out in L.A? Glad I'm not her coach!

Game Averages
Check out the Standings part of this website. It will show you the amount we outscored each opponent over the course of 3 or 4 games.
Overall we outscored opponents by an average of 9 points per game. Forest Grove was our easiest opponent and East Middle was our hardest (not counting St. Peter Marian because we only played them twice.)
