Thanks to everyone for attending our tryouts for the 2007-2008 season. We had a very successful tryout and filled each of our teams in 12U, 13U, and 15U.

***** About our CLUB *****

The Black Hawks Volleyball club is now entering its third season in the North Texas Region. In our inaugural 2005-2006 season our immediate goal was to provide the highest quality volleyball training possible and make it affordable to most everyone in our region. We feel that we satisfied and surpassed that goal completing the season with a 12th place ranking out of nearly 100 teams in a highly competitive North Texas 13U division.

We are an easily accessible club in Plano for parents commuting in the North Dallas to Allen area, and during the 2006-2007 season our players came from a broad spectrum of school districts.

We are also a small club and will field only one team each in three age groups: 12U, 13U, and 15U. For tournament play our teams compete primarily in the North Texas area. While we are not anticipating out-of-town or out-of-state tournaments we leave it as a possibility depending upon the strength of our teams.

The BLACK HAWKS VOLLEYBALL CLUB strives to empower each player with the skills and knowledge to excel and reach their personal best in both the physical and mental aspects of the game of Volleyball. It is also our goal to instill self confidence and teach good sportsmanship on and off the court.

During our coaching tenure we have coached hundreds of athletes. Our coaching staff is very skilled at identifying problem areas with techniques and helping the athletes with solutions to overcome those problems. But our coaching philosophy goes well beyond the physical development of our athletes. We put heavy emphasis on the mental aspect of the game and game strategy to make each athlete a complete player.

***** CLUB COSTS *****

This is one of the biggest concerns of most families when they consider moving their young athletes up to playing Club Volleyball. Most, if not all athletes wanting to play for their high school teams, will be advised that they must have Club experience to be considered at the High School level. Whether or not that is true for securing a spot on your  child's High School team, the Club environment will play a huge role in the development of the athlete. The level of play at the Club level is at its highest. But playing Club Volleyball as with any other Club sport can be cost prohibitive for many families. At Black Hawks Volleyball we offer our coaching services without charge. By doing so we are able to provide many promising athletes a chance to play at this level that might otherwise be out of reach. But even without coaching fees there are fees that will bring the cost of Club Volleyball to somewhere between $1,000 to $1500 or more per season total including twice weekly, 2 hour practices. Those fees include but are not limited to:

Tournament Fees, Uniforms, Individual player's Scorekeeper and Referee certifications, Director Registration, Coaches Registration, Chaperone Registration, etc.

Much of the costs and inconvenience involved with Club Volleyball comes from travel. For now, we do not plan to do out-of-town / out-of-state tournaments unless we are involved in National Tournaments. Some of the best competition in the Nation comes from right here in our own backyard. We will be competing with many other Club teams coming here to the Dallas / Fort Worth area from out-of-town or out-of-state locations. Our furthest tournament for 2006 / 2007 was from Plano to Arlington.

The BLACK HAWKS VOLLEYBALL CLUB is a year around Club. During the Club Season beginning Fall 2007, and ending near the end of the school year 2008, we will practice in Plano twice per week for 2 hours per day. During off-season our practices continue but are somewhat shortened due to family vacations, Volleyball camps, etc. During the Club season our practices focus on skills and heavy emphasis on game strategy. During off-season we focus more on skill development and conditioning. During the off-season , if you are interested in seeing first hand what we are about please call or email to schedule your daughter to join in on one of our practices free of charge. Our practice locations are: Collin Creek Community Church on Spring Creek between Coit and Independence, and Texins activity center on the Southeast corner of Legacy and Chase Oaks in Plano. Practice location, dates and times during this off-season will be at the Collin Creek Community Church on most Sunday evenings from 6PM to 8PM. Please call or email to make sure we are scheduled for practice on the day you wish to join in.

***** Skill Sessions *****

We are always flooded with requests to coach skills, however we do not have our own gym facilities and must rely on advanced scheduling with the facilities we currently use. Therefore if anyone is interested in group skill sessions please call or email. We will be happy to accommodate your requests when at all possible. What we recommend to anyone interested in skill development is to come in a group of 10 or more. Skill Sessions are our only fee-based service. Coaching fees for skill sessions are $8 per hour per athlete and the group pays for court costs. Typical court costs are $50 per hour, and 2 hrs is the recommended session. This works out very well for groups such as: New teams of recreational players that want to learn the basics quickly. For recreational teams wanting to learn how to play competitive. For experienced players wanting to refine their skills. It also works very well for groups of players anticipating making their school teams and want to get the edge on tryouts. If you are a new recreational coach, or are taking your recreational team up to a competitive level in local "Non-Club" leagues let us help you learn the game while at the same time building your players skills. Four or Five sessions will generally yield a moderately competitive team. Also, if you have access to your own facilities and they are within a few minutes driving time we would be happy to come to you, possibly saving your team the extra cost of court rentals.
