Congratulations to Anthony on becoming a NHSCA All-American.  He accomplished this feat by beating West Virginia State Champ Josh Fisher, and 2X Virginia Champ Tony Graverly before being handed his only loss in the finals.  Great Job Anthony!

BJHS finishes a close second at AHSAA Section 4 Championships!

Though they had the lead all day, the BJHS wrestling team couldn't hang on to repeat as Section Champions with only 13 of 14 weight classes filled and 3 wrestlers in different weight classes.  Injuries forced several line-up changes the day before the meet, still the BJHS wrestlers responded with heart to compete for the title and finish second.  11 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament (with Ben Jackson, Anthony Bruno, and Edmund Semmes all winning Section Titles).  Anthony Bruno inches towards the 60 win club (he currently has 58), while Foster Kreuger joined the 40 win club with his 3rd place finish, and Eric Hamilton joined the 30 win club with his 2nd place finish.  Great job guys, you have competed through adversity all year, and earn some praise.

Good Luck at State!

Wrestling Records keep getting set!

Congratulations to Anthony Bruno (joined the 50 win club), Gary Ray & Ben Jackson (joined the 40 win club),  Cody Johnson, Foster Kreuger & Bryant Smith (all joined the 30 win club) with their performances over the weekend.

An amazing feat considering all but one of these wrestlers had to sit out some part of the season due to injury.

Wrestling Results for 12/28/07-1/2/08

The Bob Jones Varsity Team finished off 2007 with an appearance in the very tough, Heart of Dixie Classic. Teams included, Mount Anthony Union (Who is going for a national record 20 straight State Championships), Brandon Florida, the Number 16 team in the Nation according to USA Today (they also hold the national record for 430+ straight dual meet victories), Vestavia Hills (Defending state Champions), Scottsboro (2X Defending 5A Champions), Prattville (Last years 6A runner up) and several others. After digging a huge whole the first day all of our wrestlers bounced back to put on much improved performances, with the highlight being Anthony Bruno’s runner-up finish (He lost to the kid that he beat the day before), and Gary Ray becoming the 2007 Heart of Dixie Heavyweight Champion.

Next up were the Buckhorn Battlefield duals. To keep a long story short, the boys (bumping up in weight & some JV kids wrestling Varsity for the first time this year), won the tournament going 5-0. (Making our season dual record 15-1).

They really fought as a team and had to battle back against South Forsyth Georgia with the match going down to the wire and being decided with a pin by our heavyweight Gary Ray. Total team effort.
