| 6A State Champion, 112 lbs. |
The Patriots completed their season with a trip to the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama and took home a 7th place finish in the 6A AHSAA State Championships!
Ben Jackson became a 2x All-State finisher with a 4th place finish (his performance for the weekend put him in the 50 win club), while Gary Ray rounded out a solid career as an All-State 3rd place finisher.
The highlight of the night came from Anthony Bruno's Championship finish @ 112 lbs. His 3-1 decision over Senior Terrance "Juicy" Jones was also voted best match of the tournament.
Anthony now becomes the first ever BJHS wrestler to ever win 60 matches in a season. His season record now stands at 61-3.
Just missing the medal round, but placed within the Top 6 were Eric Anderson, Eric Hamilton, Edmund Semmes, and Foster Krueger all of whom return next year for the Patriots. Way to go, PATRIOTS!
|
| Senior BEN JACKSON 4th Place (2x All-State Finisher) |
|
| Senior GARY RAY 3rd Place (All-State Finisher) |
Though they had the lead all day, the BJHS wrestling team couldn't hang on to repeat as Section Champions with only 13 of 14 weight classes filled and 3 wrestlers in different weight classes. Injuries forced several line-up changes the day before the meet, still the BJHS wrestlers responded with heart to compete for the title and finish second. 11 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament (with Ben Jackson, Anthony Bruno, and Edmund Semmes all winning Section Titles). Anthony Bruno inches towards the 60 win club (he currently has 58), while Foster Kreuger joined the 40 win club with his 3rd place finish, and Eric Hamilton joined the 30 win club with his 2nd place finish. Great job guys, you have competed through adversity all year, and earn some praise.
Good Luck at State!
Congratulations to Anthony Bruno (joined the 50 win club), Gary Ray & Ben Jackson (joined the 40 win club), Cody Johnson, Foster Kreuger & Bryant Smith (all joined the 30 win club) with their performances over the weekend.
An amazing feat considering all but one of these wrestlers had to sit out some part of the season due to injury.

Bob Jones High School Wrestling wrapped up the regular season with Team Championships @ both the Dick Clem Invitational (DC) and Athens Last Man Standing (LMS) tournaments.
Individual Champions @ these tournaments included Anthony Bruno (LMS/DC Champion), Ben Jackson (LMS Champion), Thomas Giancatarino (LMS Champion), Foster Krueger (LMS/DC Champion), Gary Ray (DC Champion), Eric Hamilton (LMS/DC Champion), Eric Anderson (LMS Champion), and Edmund Semmes (DC Champion).
This finish added with the 21-6 dual record gives the Patriots an impressive regular season.
While the Varsity was enjoying their success, the JV/Middle School wrestlers were rolling as well with 2nd place finishes in their respective divisions @ the BJHS Invitational. Great job to you all!

Anthony Bruno, a sophomore at Bob Jones, broke the school's record for the most wins in a season, on Saturday, January 26 at the Dick Clem Invitational.
The previous record was set at 54; and Anthony has now raised it to 55!!
In fact, there is a very good chance Anthony can raise the new record even higher with Sections this weekend in Oxford!!
Anthony was also presented with two other awards:
Most Outstanding Wrestler and Most Pins in the Shortest Amount of Time.
Way to go, Anthony and Good Luck!!
The Bob Jones Varsity Team finished off 2007 with an appearance in the very tough, Heart of Dixie Classic. Teams included, Mount Anthony Union (Who is going for a national record 20 straight State Championships), Brandon Florida, the Number 16 team in the Nation according to USA Today (they also hold the national record for 430+ straight dual meet victories), Vestavia Hills (Defending state Champions), Scottsboro (2X Defending 5A Champions), Prattville (Last years 6A runner up) and several others. After digging a huge whole the first day all of our wrestlers bounced back to put on much improved performances, with the highlight being Anthony Bruno’s runner-up finish (He lost to the kid that he beat the day before), and Gary Ray becoming the 2007 Heart of Dixie Heavyweight Champion.
Next up were the Buckhorn Battlefield duals. To keep a long story short, the boys (bumping up in weight & some JV kids wrestling Varsity for the first time this year), won the tournament going 5-0. (Making our season dual record 15-1).
They really fought as a team and had to battle back against South Forsyth Georgia with the match going down to the wire and being decided with a pin by our heavyweight Gary Ray. Total team effort.
Both the Bob Jones Varsity and JV/Middle School wrestlers took off for Franklin Tennessee to compete in the 18 team Ravenwood Raptor Invitational. The JV started off the weekend by winning the event highlighted by Travis Burnas winning the 130 lb. class and Nick Bryan, Layth Tamimi, Hampton Tyler, Connor Gilliland, Michael Creekmore, Josh Shields, and Micah Hatley becoming Medalists.
The Varsity Placed second in their tournament despite having three reserve wrestlers in the lineup, and missing the 189 weightclass. Anthony Bruno becoming tournament Champion, while Gary Ray lost a triple overtime 2-1 to finish as runner up in the tournament to a two-time Tennessee State Medalist.
Ben Jackson, Thomas Giancatarino, and Stephen Swindall placed third, while Foster Kreuger finished fourth.
