Congratulations Ice Student Athlete
Congrats to Brock Bethea and Cameron Ware for the highest level of academic acheivement. Both student-athletes were selected to the Junior National Honor Society Friday April 25th at Clay-Chalkville Middle School. Both displayed superior academic excellence and leadership at the school. The Ice family is very proud of you guys.
Below is the criteria to qualify for the NJHS:
Scholarship Prerequisite GPA of 3.5. Meeting the GPA prerequisite can make a student eligible for consideration, but it does not guarantee selection. Once inducted into the NJHS, the student must maintain this GPA to stay in NJHS. Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be invited to apply, based on the following:
Leadership: Students are required to hold some form of a leadership position. This is defined as any position that they are directly responsible for motivating or directing others. Examples of this can be team captain, class officer, committee chair, section leaders in band or chorus.
Service: Any action completed by a student where they were not compensated with money or materials. This can be any contribution made to the school, community, and classmates.
Citizenship: A student demonstrates citizenship by having a high regard for freedom and justice. They will participate in activities with maturity and responsibility and understands the importance of civic involvement.
Character: NJHS follows the six pillars of character- trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Students need to be able to take criticism willingly and accept recommendations graciously. They will be held to the highest standards of honesty and reliability.
All areas will be reviewed and voted on by the faculty council members, and all this will be reviewed by the principal for acceptance into the NJHS.All reviews and selections will be free of speculation and rumor.
Again congrats to both Brock and Cameron. This is the true definition of Student-Athlete. Keep up the good work on and off the court!

Magic City Rumble in the HAM!!
The Birmingham Ice had a sound performance this weekend finishing 2-0 in Pool play and becoming the number one overall seed in the 2014 Magic City Rumble tournament. The Ice started the tournament strong with a 41-7 thrashing of the Alabama Hustlers. Smothering defense and hot shooting got the Ice off to a 23-2 spurt to start the game. The second game was much like the first as the Ice jumped out 15-2 against the Alabama Flames Black team. DEFENSE ICE DEFENSE!!! Final Score Ice 47 Flames 19
On Sunday the Ice were primed and focused as they got a surprised matchup with former Head Coach Preston Sharpe and his new team Next Level. Smothering defense took over in the 2nd half and the ICE were too much for Next Level. Final score Ice 49 Next Level 32.
After the win the Ice got matched up againt the AAU District Champions Alabama Braveheart. The game was very physical and tough from the beginning. The Ice played a tremendous first half of basketball but the Bravehearts were ahead 19-16. The second half of the game the Ice struggled to match the intensity of the Bravehearts and had a mental collapse. The Bravehearts jumped ahead by 10 early in the 2nd half and never looked back. Final Score Bravehearts 48 Ice 26.
Overall the Ice finished with a 3-1 record in the Magic City Rumble. Good showing but a tough loss to the Bravehearts kept the Ice from getting another trophy to add to the trophy case. Good weekend Ice now back to work. Time to get better!
