Bill Hood/Marucci opened tournament play with a 3-2 win over the Louisiana Lugnuts. Wesley Perkins led the way going 2-3, 2rbi's with a walk off double. Logan Shaver and Ben Zoglio combined on a 3 hiiter with Zoglio picking up the win in relief.
In Game 2, the Southland Hogs edged Bill Hood/Marucci 2-1 in 8 innings. Patrick Donnelly, Alex Byo and Taylor Abdullah led the way offensively with 2 hits a piece. Byo started and went 6 innings giving up 2 hits and striking out 10.
In Game 3, Bill Hood/Marucci defeated Colt 45's 4-3. Patrick Donnelly(3-4) and Alex Edwards(2-2) led the way offensively. Wesley Perkins and Ryan Downing also added a hit with 2 rbi's each. On the mound Ben Carter picked up the win going 4 innings giving up a hit and striking out 8. Cameron Breedens came in and closed the door for his 1st save of the summer.
In Game 4, Bill Hood/Marucci defeated Bullet Baseball 4-1. Patrick Donnelly finished the day 3-4 with 2 doubles, with Alex Edwards, Taylor Abdullah and Ryan Downing chipping in with a hit a piece and an RBI. Andrew Reeves picked up the win going 4 innings giving up 1 hit. Stephen Poche picked up the save going 3 innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 5.

Bill Hood /Marucci opens season with a 7-2 win over the Marucci Black at Port Allen High School. Bill Hood was led at the plate by ss Patrick Donnelly who was 2-3 with a double, 3 RBI's and 2 stolen bases and cf Alex Marse who was 2-2 with a double, 2 rbi's and 2 stolen bases. Four Bill Hood pitchers combined on a 3 hitter with 10 k's leading the way and picking up the win was LHP Stephen Poche who threw 3 no hit innings with 5 strike outs. Bill Hood/Marucci returns to action on Friday night at 8:00 at Nicholls State.
Saturday, June 6
Belhaven senior pitcher Craig Westcott was named the winner of 2009 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy awarded each year to Mississippi’s top college baseball player as determined by Major League scouts, college coaches and a media representative. Westcott was presented with the award Monday night in ceremony at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Hall Fame.
