For over 28 years Bainbridge Island Little League has supported and served theyouth in our community by teaching them how to be good citizens. We introduceour children to the principles of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courageand mutual respect for all. The introduction of these principles is the focusof our little league organization. Baseball or softball is the vehicle. Your participation in this lesson to our children is critical. We ask that you help model the principles of good citizenship to our youth not only through your words, but through your actions as well. Let your volunteerism to BainbridgeIsland Little League stand as your example of taking action in your community.
What is it that makes a parent in today’s over scheduled, over stretched, reality (that is family andl ife) step up to volunteer? Yes, we all understand the rich tradition that Little League has become to communities across our country. We all enjoy being spectators to our “lil’ sluggers” and have come to know and cherish there relationships that we build from team to team, from year to year. However, it is more than that. It is the fundamental understanding that being part of this community is not a passive role, but one of action. It is the act of being involved and contributing that makes us feel like we “belong”, because we do. It is when we step up and contribute as a community, that we become a community. Today, more than ever, the youth of Little League stand to gain from your active participation in this community.
This year we would like to honor the youth on our island by “getting back tobasics.” We will emphasize the development of sound skills, teamwork, leadership, persistence and FUN. With your help, we can take certain steps to ensure that Bainbridge Island Little League remains one of the premier youth service organizations on the island. All are welcome and all can contribute. The choice of how you would like to make that contribution is up to you. Let’sPlay Ball!
Sincerely,
R.Chris King
