Assistant Freshman/Sophomore Coach - Gurney Steele
In 1990, Gurney began his basketball coaching career at Boulder High as a volunteer with the JV team, serving as an assistant coach/statistician/scorekeeper. He volunteered for 6 years and became co-coach of the sophomore team in the 1996-97 season. From the 1997-98 through 2000-2001seasons, he served as coach of the freshman team. In the Fall of 2001, he coached at Casey Middle School. In January of 2002, he began a 4 1/2 year coaching stint at Longmont High School. After retiring from coaching in March of 2007, he was contacted by BHS Head Coach Dynelle Tadlock about assisting with the freshman/sophomore teams.
Thus, after some arm-twisting, Gurney unretired, and in his words, "has come home after a great 4 1/2 year vacation trip" to Longmont.
He is a diehard Pink Floyd fan, enjoys non-rap rock music and working on the historical novel he is writing.
