For new and returning students:The club meets each Thursday 2:30-4 (when school is in session) and will continue until the 2009 Lacrosse Team practice officially begins. No supplies needed, sticks and balls are provided.   It is a great way for all students to work on their lacrosse skills and meet other players. All students are welcome and meet on the field behind the pool area. Sign-up sheets are in Student Services.

 LacrosseTeam  (Spring)

We are now in preparation for our ninth season for lacrosse at Bret Harte Middle School. The sport of lacrosse is becoming one of the fastest growing sports on the West Coast. In the last 9 years, youth lacrosse has grown from just a couple of loosely organized teams to over 200 throughout the bay area region. This past season there were over 5000 boys and girls playing lacrosse sanctioned by the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association (NCJLA).

Each year, Bret Harte Lacrosse is becoming more and more popular with the student body. If room allows, we also welcome 6th - 8th grade players from outside of Bret Harte to join the team*. This is a "NO CUT" sport at Bret Harte, each year we plan to fill 2 teams. One of the teams will be a highly competitive team of students under 15 years old by 12/31, (generally composed of 7th - 8th graders) and the other will focus on introduction and skills development (these players will be 6th - 8th grades and must be under age 13 by 12/31).Our goal is for "everybody" to play, learn, and have fun! Each of the teams will be playing against teams of like skills and ability.

Junior level lacrosse is an aggressive contact sport and requires athletes to be in good physical condition. All player equipment, except uniforms, is provided by the player. Bret Harte Middle School and the governing league provide the uniforms, fields, goals, and the referee and league fees. It is worth noting that because of the Bret Harte Booster Club sponsorship and involvement of our team parents our kids will play in a "competitive" league for a fraction of the investment that is demanded by any other team in the league.

Bret Harte currently does not offer a "Girls" team and therefore will allow girls to play on a coed team. This decision must be considered carefully due to the physical nature of the game. We have had successful girls play on a co-ed team, attitude makes the difference. If enough interest is generated in girls only lacrosse, adding a girls only team would be considered.

We are always looking forward to meeting new players and welcoming back our returning team players. Sign-ups are in the fall, beginning the week of November 3rd.

Practices begin in January. Regular season games tentatively begin March 1st and run through the month of May.

"STICKS UP! LET'S GO BRONCOS!"

*The Bret Harte Booster Club will consider on a case by case basis and have authority for final approval.
