Travel Distances for League Play in 2006 / 2007

House League Play in 2006/ 2007

Four metro hockey associations, Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, and Gloucester-Cumberland, have withdrawn their House League teams from the ODWHA to form their own Metro Ottawa Girls’ House League. They have made this move to “alleviate travel concerns and encourage growth of girls' hockey in the city" of Ottawa.

As a result, the outlying rural associations have formed our own house league with the guidance and support of ODWHA for a least one year. The rural associations include Carleton Place, Smiths Falls, Perth, Kemptville, Brockville, Outaouais, Clarence-Rockland and Embrun-Russell. These associations will each have to fill a task such as Registrar, Head Scheduler, Divisional Schedulers, Head Statistician, and Divisional Statisticians in the new Rural House League.

Please see the ODWHA website for more information. www.odwha.ca

Competitive League Play in 2006/ 2007

The ODWHA competitive league structure has not changed for the 2006 / 2007 season.  However, some travel restrictions are being applied which will result in some of BGHA home games being played in Spencerville.

The following are the PROPOSED LEAGUE LIMITS

Competitive C =   45 minutes travel time
Competitive B =   60 minutes travel time
Competitive BB =  75 minutes travel time
Competitive A/AA =  120 minutes travel time & U.S. teams come to the border for weekend play

In addition, the ODWHA passed a motion stating that ODWHA teams will not travel across the Canadian/US border for any teams under the AA/A level in the ODWHA league.

Augusta Township has passed a motion to donate $100 for every resident signed up for BGHA except for residents that have signed their child up for South Grenville minor hockey or Prescott or Ewardsburgh figure skating.  This includes power skating, Canskate, etc.
BGHA will turn this $100 over to each "approved" Augusta Township resident after it is received.

Brockville & Area Sports Hall of Fame News!!

At this years Sports HOF Awards dinner, our Novice #1 Angels were voted the Sports Team of the Year.  Nominees this year were The Brockville Bunnies, Major Midget 'B' Braves, Rideau St. Lawrence Kings Minor Bantam AA, and St. Mary HS Girls Curling Team.  This is a great acheivement not only for our Novice Girls, but great publicity for our organization as well.  The girls will be awarded a plaque this evening (5:30pm) during the HOF Induction ceremony being held at the Memorial Centre.  The City of Brockville is supplying refreshments and such, so come on over.  It's a great way to help support our Angels, and also others in our community.  We are anticipating some pictures and writeups in local papers as well.

  Congratulations Girls!!
