JSQ #1 North, Aquia Creek

JSQ #1 North 2012 is complete and we had a great day on Aquia Creek.  Thanks to Hope Springs Marina for letting us use the facility and providing the support for the Youth Program.  25 anglers caught 37 fish for a total of 56.89lbs.  The average weight per fish was 1.54lbs.  The Junior Division (11-14) qualifiers were:  Nick Span, 2/2.50lbs, Liam Bellucy, 2/2.10lbs and Robert Kloby 1/2.00 and Robert got Big Fish honors as well.  The Senior Division (15-18) qualifiers were:  Justin Doyle, 3/7.20lbs, Mitch Willis, 4/7.11lbs and Dylan McGhee, 3/5.60lbs with Justin taking the Big Fish with a 3.30lb bass.  All in all a great day with some good food thanks to Warren County's Youth Advisor and parents.  Thanks to all of the Boat Captains who devoted their time and effort in this event.  You know without you it would not happen and we sincerely appreciate your support.

Look for JSQ #1 South 2012 at the end of October on Leesville Lake!  We will try to qualify 6 more for the State Championship next June.  Hope to see you there!!

The Orange County High School and 4H Junior Bass Masters managed to retain the Joseph W. Thomson Memorial Trophy by posting 15.65 pounds on Smith Mountain Lake Sunday.  This gave them a 7+ pound margin over their competitors in the anual event.  This is the sixth year in a row for an OCHS victory and with 10 other Junior Bass Master clubs in the state you would think it would be a matter of time before OCHS was ousted but every year they seem to manage to post good weights and this year was no exception.  Anchored by a limit from Kevin Beasley and a good Boat Captain fish from Jeff Smith, OCHS walks away with the trophy for one more year.  Congratulations to the OCHS Team and to the Youth Advisor and mentor Becky Gore.  Special thanks to all of the Boat Captains who make the whole Youth Program possible.

VIRGINIA FEDERATION NATION REPRESENTATIVE CHOSEN ON THE DELAWARE

Congratulations to Mike Cumberledge who had the most weight on the Delaware River for The Virginia State Team.  Mike will represent Virginia in Monroe, LA in November at The Federation Nation National event and possibly move on to the Bass Master Classic in 2012.  Mike held out through 3 very tough days of fishing with the river at or above flood stage and massive amounts of debri in the river on days 2 & 3 to come out on top.  LA should be realatively easy to fish after the Delaware!

Congratulations are also in order for our two Jr. Bassmasters!  Jacob Cooper placed third in the Senior Division and James Graves placed second in the Junior Division.  The youth were not allowed to fish the river due to the conditions and were instead placed on a 12 acre lake in Burlington, NJ.  No one had the chance to practice on this body of water so all of the youth had to assess to water and adjust accordingly on the morning of the tournament.  It turned out to be a fun day with alot of short fish caught but tough to find any quality fish.  These two young men did an outstanding job adapting to finish where they did.  Both have several more years as Jr. Bassmasters and I am sure you will see them again.  Good Luck guys!!
