2007 Scholarship Winners

Berlin, CT - The Berlin Youth Wrestling Program is proud to announce the scholarship winners. The scholarship selection committee has chosen Shane Day to receive a $500 scholarship to be used at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island where he is enrolled this fall. "Shane's outstanding high school career and involvement with the youth program from such an early age made his selection very appropriate", stated Roger Moss, Head Coach of BYW. Moss went on to say "It is very satisfying as a coach of a youth program to watch your former wrestlers progress and achieve greatness at the high school level." In his four year high school career Shane complied a 170-24 varsity record, 2006 Outstanding wrestler for the Northwest Conference Tournament, 2006 and 2007 Coaches Award, four time conference Champion and 2006 Class L and State Open Champion. Shane was also a four year Unified Sport Partner while at Berlin High School. This year the Scholarship Committee awarded a second scholarship in the amount of $250 to Spencer Polaske due to his outstanding academic, community achievements while being a four year varsity wrestler at Berlin High."Spencer's high level of achievement in the classroom could not be overlooked by the selection committee", stated Moss. Spencer was a team player on the team and participated in many activities outside the wrestling room while being a member of the varsity team for four years. Spencer was a member of the National Honor Society, John Hopkins Talented Youth Program recipient, ranked in the top 11% of his graduating class and a member of the Northwest Conference All-Academic Team all four years in high school. Spencer will be attending Villanova, where he is finance major.

The selection committee believe that these two young men have set the standard for all others to acheive in the future of this scholarship.
