The Ben Geren Softball Association hosts both Slow Pitch and Fast Pitch teams for youth and adults in Fort Smith, AR at Ben Geren Regional Park. While we are located inside Ben Geren Regional Park which is owned by Sebastian County, we lease the softball fields from the county and are solely responsible for the scheduling and running the association. We currently register our teams with USSSA.

Visitors, Players, Coaches, Umpires and all others are reminded that Ben Geren Park is outside the City Limits of Fort Smith and in the dry part of Sebastian County. This means that possession and/or consumption of alcohol in the park is a violation of the law. Due to severe problems with alcohol in the past the Ben Geren Softball Association Board has requested that the Sebastian County Sheriff's Dept. and the Ben Geren Park Police start making arrests for any and all violations involving alcohol. If found guilty they will also request that the judge bar the violators for a year from the park and the softball complex.

The Sebastian County Parks Department is trying to beautify the park. They have requested that we refrain from parking on the grass.

FALL TEAM REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED!!!!

Team registrations for Fall Men, Fall COED and Youth Fastpitch are now being accepted.  You can either go to the handout section and download a registration form and fax or e-mail it to us or come to the office and fill one out in person.  THE ABSOLUTE DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS AUGUST 11, 2009 AT 5:00 PM.  The preseason tournament will be August 14 & 15 at the Ben Geren Softball Complex.   Remember, due to our new rent agreement with the county we must require all fees to be paid before the team can be scheduled for the preseason tournament.

If you want to pay by credit card or Pay Pal be sure and let us know and we can send you an invoice through them by e-mail and you can handle it that way.

NOTICE RAIN OUT SCHEDULES

Mens DIV 1 rainout games from 6/10/09 will be played on Monday June 29, 2009 same times and fields.

COED rainout games from 6/12/09 will be played on Monday July 13, 2009 same times and fields.

If you have any questions call TIM at 646-9517 (he made the decision on the dates to play the rainouts)

TRASH

Just a reminder for all COACHES, PLAYERS, OFFICALS and FANS.  PLEASE, use the trash barrels provided.  The Association as a whole is responsible for keeping the trash picked up.  If not the county can charge us $10.00 per man per hour to pickup what the Park Director (Joe Gaa) thinks is excessive trash.  If we have to start paying this fee it will have to passed on to the team fees (you).  There should be a barrel in each dug out, if not let a league officer know and we will try to get the county to replace it.

YOUR TEAM NEED TO PRACTICE?

Does your team need to practice?  With our new agreement with the county for field useage (rent) we will be scheduling the practices on fields 3-8 just contact Tim or another member of the board at 646-9517.  HOWEVER, if you think you want to practice at night and will need lights, you will also need to contact the Sebastian County Parks Department at 646-2444 to make arangements for paying for the lights.  The Park Police will have a schedule of those that have paid for lights and can handle any problems you might have with the lights not coming on.  However, he is not authorized to take payments for last minute decisions to have lights so think ahead.  The Ben Geren Softball Association will no longer be turning the lights on and off for practices and/or games.

Also, if you have prescheduled a field with BGSA on one of the fields 3-8 and you find another team there. Advise them that you have the field reserved and ask them to move.  If they refuse you can call the park police (through the county Sheriff's Office) and they will be able to settle the problem.
