Bend South Little League: 2012 Season Divisions

Select Season:  
T-Ball
This division is for 5 & 6 year old girls and boys and is an introduction to baseball. The emphasis is on learning basic baseball rules and learning the proper technique for throwing, catching and batting. Players will start the season with hitting from the tee then graduate to coach pitch. Players cannot strike out, but the side will be retired if the defensive team makes 3 outs in the field. Players league age 5 and 6 must play one year of T-ball before moving on to Farm.

Farm
The Farm Division is for 6 & 7 year old boys and girls who have had some experience with baseball. Teams are basically chosen based on school location, and some special requests (e.g. buddy, coach) will be honored when possible.

Minor American
This division is open to 7 and 8 year old boys and girls and is designed as an introduction to kid-pitch baseball. At this level, the emphasis is still on learning the rules of baseball and proper technique. Score is not kept and good sportsmanship is emphasized. No walks are allowed and coaches will step in and relieve the pitcher is the pitcher has thrown 4 non-strike pitches.

Minor National
This division is for 9 & 10 year old boys and girls and is intended to be an introduction into competitive baseball. Players participate in tryouts at the beginning of the season and a draft system is used to balance the teams. Limited space is available for 8 year olds who are ready to play at this level. They must try out and be drafted to a team to participate in this division. At this level of play, the kids pitch, bases can be stolen, and the emphasis is on learning baseball rules and sportsmanship.

Majors
This is a competitive baseball division for 11 & 12 year old boys and girls. Players participate in tryouts at the beginning of the season and a draft system is used to balance the teams. Limited space is available for 10 year olds who are ready to play at this level. They must try out and be drafted to a team to participate in this division. At this level of play, the emphasis is on learning baseball rules, strategies, and sportsmanship.

Juniors
Competitive baseball for 13 & 14 year olds boys.

Rookies
The Rookies Softball Division is for girls aged 7 & 8 as an introduction to coach-pitch softball. At this level, the emphasis is still on learning the rules of softball, positions and proper techniques. Score is not kept and good sportsmanship is emphasized. Coaches pitch until the batter hits, and may use a tee. No walks are allowed as each player bats every inning so as to gain experience hitting and running the bases.

Minor Softball
The Minor Softball Division is for girls aged 9 & 10. All players are subject to tryouts and a draft. Players will be rated on their hitting, fielding, hustle and overall attitude. 8-year olds may assessed for play at the Minors level and they may be drafted if their ability warrants it. All players league age 8 who want to play in the Minors division must be approved by the player agent and/or the safety officer. Special requests cannot be honored due to the draft.

Major Softball
The Major Softball division is for girls aged 11 & 12. All players are subject to tryouts and a draft. Players will be rated on their hitting, fielding, hustle and overall attitude. 10-year olds may assessed for play at the Majors level and they may be drafted if their ability warrants it and space allows. All players league age 10 who want to play in the Majors division must be approved by the player agent and/or the safety officer. Special requests cannot be honored due to the draft.

Junior Softball
The Junior Softball division is for girls aged 13 & 14. All players are subject to tryouts and a draft.
