Organizational Goals
Bellevue Blast is dedicated to providing an enjoyable and enriching experience for all players. Blast goals are:
o Play competitively in each tournament
o Develop player softball skills
o Teach responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship
o Have fun!
Coaching Staff
Bellevue Blast boasts a strong staff of dedicated and experienced volunteer coaches. Coaching experience includes 3A high school level, Little League World Series and League play plus attendance at various fastpitch coaching clinics. Bellevue Blast provides annual training for coaches to help maintain program consistency and to improve coaching techniques. The Blast staff includes Bruce Zimmer, 2003 Kingco Fastpitch Coach of the Year for Bellevue High School and Rod Anderson, long-time assistant varsity coach for Sammamish High School. The Blast staff also includes Barry Johnson, long-time Eastside fastpitch coach as a consultant for player development. As our program matures, we are beginning to see former players return to help coach and contribute to the further growth of our program. Bellevue Blast is thrilled to have Hannah Owings, former player at U of Virginia, assistant coach at University of Santa Clara and current head coach of Interlake HS as its Technical Advisor to the Board. Hannah brings a wealth of experience, insight and energy to the program.
Player Development
Blast is dedicated to preparing girls for high school softball and beyond. We are very fortunate to have coaches who are great at instruction and who also use outside expertise to provide additional instruction. Blast regularly sets up training with UW coaching staff, such as Geoff Hirai, Eve Gaw, and Brandi Gordon, either sending players to UW clinics or having small group or individual level sessions. Blast also set up defensive and hitting instruction tailored to the various Blast team age groups with Hannah Owings. In 2007, Blast is introducing vision training with High Tech Vision Training of Bothell. Strength and conditioning has also been integrated into our programs.
Bellevue Blast is fortunate to have a great group of players, excellent coaches, and involved parents. We are proud to report that tournament directors and game officials frequently compliment our girls on their effort, their skills, and their sportsmanship.
