The Belles Performance Team: News

Belles Bring Holiday Cheer to Troops and Families

On December 13, five members of the Belles Performance Team visited the USO at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs to bring holiday cheer to Armed Forces members and their families.  The Belles performed a holiday show for a standing room only crowd of over 200 servicemen and women and their families.  After the show, the Belles escorted Santa in, who had presents for every child in attendance, distributed their military themed posters and signed autographs for children, servicemen and even wives of currently deployed soldiers.

Owner and Executive Director Cher Fox really appreciated the opportunity to perform at the USO for their 2nd Annual Christmas Party.  “Performing at the USO was such an amazing experience and has been a long time goal for the Belles," shares Fox.  "We were honored to be asked to perform and everyone in attendance was so appreciative of our time.  I was touched when many wives asked us for autographed posters so they could send them to their deployed spouses with the rest of their holiday gifts.  Our troops do so much for us and sacrifice every day, their families sacrifice every day they are deployed...so to take time out of our lives to show them how much we appreciate and support all they do for us was truly our pleasure."

Jingle Belle Rock

The Belles Performance Team performed at South West Plaza Mall this weekend to a 2 story standing room only crowd.  The Belles were invited by their official dance studio, Allana's Academy of Dance, to participate in 2 holiday performances this season, this past weekend on December 12, and again next weekend on December 19.  So if you missed this past weekend's show, catch them next weekend at 3:00 pm at the Community Stage.

Belles invited to participate in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl Parade

"On behalf of the Fiesta Bowl Parade Committee, I am delighted to inform you that your unit has been selected to participate in the 39th Annual Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade presented by Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation.  This year’s Parade will take place Saturday, January 2, 2010, at 11:00 a.m.  We are excited about each of the entries that will be joining us in our celebration that day and we look forward to your participation in the 39th Annual Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade."

"It is an honor to be invited to participate in this event and the invitation speaks volumes about the Belles' national appeal," states Cher Fox, Owner and Executive Director of the Belles Performance Team.  But the organization has a previous commitment that will keep them from attending this year.  “The Belles’ are currently focused on a project to raise money for charity by producing and selling a 2010 – 2011 calendar,” announces Fox.  “This is the first calendar in our organization’s history, and although we have been primarily known as a community participating organization over the past 6 years, we are making a large leap to a community contributing organization in 2010.”

This project will also keep the Belles from participating in the upcoming Denver Veteran’s Day Parade, where the team is an event favorite.  “It’s an amazing feeling to be saluted during this parade for what we contribute and wearing the patriotic colors of the red, white and blue,” shares Fox.  “We will miss participating in both events this year but hope all will understand we are on a mission to make a difference.”

More details about the production and release of the Belles’ 2010 – 2011 calendar coming soon!

New Uniforms for the Belles Performance Team

The Belles Performance Team recently expanded their wardrobe with several new uniform pieces produced by the Line Up and rhinestone designed by Executive Director Cher Fox.  The Line Up currently produces uniforms for the local Denver Nuggets Dancers and Colorado Mammoth Wild Bunch as well as many other national entertainment teams.

The old crop top received a makeover with new white sleeves to match the team boots.  The new navy shorts have a red leather rhinestone buckled belt (the team also has the same belt in white), the new halter top and white shrug are great pieces for variance.  The revised crop top and old skirts received updates with hundreds more ruby Swarovski crystals.  Hundreds more diamond and ruby crystals were applied to the halters and shrugs, as well as cobalt stones for the shorts.  The team is also integrating navy pants that will be seen for the first time on their 5th anniversary poster.

"The team's goal this year was to expand upon our current patriotic image," reveals Fox.  "The Line Up produces top quality durable uniforms in the richest colors, we were excited to work with them in 2006 when we bought our first pieces, and they were a natural choice for the revisions and additions the team needed this year."  Since the Belles are an independent dance team, new uniform purchases don't happen every year and are a very exciting time for the organization and the community.  "The team was proud to share the uniforms for the first time with the community at the 2009 Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade," shares Fox.  "The Belles were an amazing hit this year and were confused by the crowd with a couple top NFL cheerleading teams in the nation, which was a huge compliment to our organization and the Line Up."

The Line Up also produces custom performance apparel pieces for teams of all levels and for individual audition needs.

Partnership Announcement - Allana's Academy of Dance

I have had a lot of dreams over the years for the Belles Performance Team, and I am excited to announce that one of the biggest ones is finally coming true!

Allana's Academy of Dance is the newest business partner to join the BPT family.  Not only will AAD be offering anyone interested one month of free classes (for a one time $20 studio registration fee), AAD will also offer current BPT members 50% off class prices after the free month.

The most special gift of this partnership - AAD will now be the official home of the Belles Performance Team.  The Belles will be the exclusive professional adult team at AAD.  Practices will now be held at AAD on Thursday nights, starting January 15th, from 7 - 10 pm.  Additional weekend events/bootcamps/rehearsals will also be held at AAD.  Belles members, studio members, prospective members, and potential business partners will now see the BPT logo in the window and walk into a gorgeous, loft inspired, modern and hip studio where pictures of the Belles will be on the walls, where we will have an official place of business to meet - and where every Belle, past, current and future, will have a comfortable and welcome home.  This studio will also allow us to finally start a Jr. Belles program, where we can continue to give back to the community and inspire young dancers.

The new home of the Belles Performance Team is located at 3625 West Bowles Avenue, Unit 17, Littleton, 80123.  AAD will be holding an open house this Saturday, January 10, from 2 - 4 pm.  Please come by and sign up for your free month of classes or just take a studio tour.  It is nothing like you have ever seen from a dance studio before.

Thank you Miss Allana for allowing us to be a part of your lifelong dream!   Thank you to all of the ladies who have made us the 1st class organization we are today!  I look forward to the exciting possibilities this move forward in the BPT organization's history will bring us.

Ms. Planet Beach Colorado Rita Case Blogs

Wow! What a BLAST!! As a member of the Belles Performance Team it was my honor to represent Planet Beach, one of my favorite sponsors as Ms. Planet Beach Denver, CO at their International Spokesmodel competition. The pageant was held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Over 65 women competed for the $100,000 prize and the opportunity to open their own Planet Beach franchise.

I felt like a rockstar as I was greeted by a limo and TV crews upon my arrival at the airport. During the week I participated in several photoshoots and filmed interviews to be apart of the "Making of Ms. Planet Beach." The show will air in early 2009. Be sure to look for it!

After a week of rehearsals and preliminary competitions I was excited for the final show to arrive. Every contestant was able to model her costume representing their idea of Rock and Glamour (the theme of the pageant), as well as her swimsuit and a designer fashion outfit.

In the end I was left out of the final 12, but I was honored to have placed in the top 10 in the online People's Choice Awards.

The highlight of the evening for me was receiving the "Best YouTube" award. All of the contestants were asked to create a video describing their favorite Planet Beach Contempo Spa experience. I of course couldn't name just one, and had to mention the aqua massage bed, the Lumiere facial, the hydration station, oh, and of course I can't forget the Mystic Tan! You can check out my video on the Planet Beach website www.planetbeach.com. A very special thank you goes out to Cher Fox, Owner of the Belles Performance Team, and the current Ms. Planet Beach Gen X Colorado, for all of her help in making the video.

Belles Invited to Perform in India

“I was so surprised to receive the phone call last week”, exclaims Cher Fox. “What an amazing opportunity!”  Fox, Owner and Executive Director of the Belles Performance Team, received a phone call and a follow up email from the Indian Premier League, inviting the Belles to perform in India for their cricket playoffs in April and May.  The IPL is the top Cricket league in India, and considered very similar to the NFL in the United States.

“At first I thought, this can’t be real,” shares Fox.  “I forwarded the email to my coaches and they reacted similarly.”  After doing some research on the internet, Fox discovered the NFL Washington Redskins Cheerleaders were already in India, 12 ladies promoting Cricket and building a new India based cheerleading squad for one team, the Bangalore Royal Challengers.  Redskins Director of Entertainment and Cheerleaders Donald Wells is also onsite heading up this effort.  This week, 12 cheerleaders representing Australian rugby teams Wests Tigers, Melbourne Storm and the St. George Illawarra Dragons, are heading to India to add to the excitement.

“Unfortunately with such short notice, we were unable to attend,” explains Fox.  “We just held auditions for our summer team and many of our dancers are students.  This opportunity fell right during finals and we had to take their educational commitment into consideration when making this decision for our organization.”  Fox believes the Belles were likely one of many American teams contacted for this opportunity.  But she was honored that the organization was considered.

“This invitation confirms that although the Belles do not support a traditional sports team, we have an international appeal as an All American team of dancers and women,” states Fox.  The Belles have been looking outside of the states for performance opportunities.  Fox reveals that they have been preparing to submit an application for a USO entertainment tour.  The application process is very thorough and it has taken the organization some time to create and gather all the necessary information and materials to apply.

“The Belles will become international entertainers very soon,” assures Fox. “The IPL plans to contact us again next year, hopefully earlier in the year, so we can be ready to share our spirit with India and the international fans of Cricket.”

BPT Audition and Workshop Q & A

We are excited for you to experience a different kind of audition situation, one with a lot of coaching and feedback so you are comfortable and challenged every step of the way.

The Pre-Audition workshop is rapidly approaching.  Thursday, 8 - 10 pm, at the 24 Hour Fitness on the corner of Colorado and Alameda near Cherry Creek.  Auditions, same location, Saturday, registration starts at 11:30 am, Auditions start promptly at noon.

We have received some great questions from interested ladies that we would like to share the answers to.

What should I wear to the pre-audition workshop?

Whatever you are comfortable dancing in.  This does not have to match the requested audition attire of a sports bra and form fitting shorts but for the coaches to give you good feedback, you should wear form fitting clothing pants and shirts so they can see how your body moves and make the appropriate critiques for your audition preparation.

Do workout shoes count as dance/tennis shoes?

Yes.  Cross trainers count as tennis shoes.  If you already have dance shoes, it is recommended that you wear them so you can turn to your fullest ability on the wood dance floor.  But many current members practice in tennis shoes so you can still do a great job and be comfortable.

Does sports bra and form fitting shorts mean the bejeweled bikinis worn for other team's auditions?

No.  You do not need to spend a fortune or be so exposed in an audition outfit for the Belles.  We are looking to see what your current fitness level is and how your body moves while you dance.  Many of our uniforms are 2 piece midriff exposing but not near as small as a bikini.  Rhinestones and skin are not necessary to judge the talent and personality of a performer.

Where do I get audition materials, applications, etc.?

Applications and waivers will be handed out at the Pre-Audition Workshop.  They will also be available the morning of auditions at registration.  To complete this beforehand, the application and waiver will be available online at www.bellespt.com all day Friday and Saturday morning.  There will be links to these documents on the Audition page of the website.

What if I can't do the splits, will this hurt me at auditions?

Although this is a required skill to complete at auditions, the lack of this skill may not keep you from being selected to bootcamp.  Bootcamp will give you 3 more weeks to continue to work on achieving this skill.  24 Hour Fitness will be working with the team vigoroursly during bootcamp to improve flexibility, strength, fitness and endurance.  If flexibility is a weak area for you, then speak up and get the help you need to solidify your spot on the team during bootcamp.  If we can see progress in the right direction, this will keep you moving forward in the BPT selection process.  In the meantime, stretch, stretch, stretch!

What is the age maximum to participate on the team?

The Belles have no age maximum, we just require that you are 18 and older to audition for legal reasons.  The owner of the team has previously performed with beautiful, fit and talented ladies into their early 40s so if you've still got it, bring it!

Good Luck at Auditions!

BPT Adopts a Family for the Holidays

The Belles Performance Team is Colorado's only independent professional dance team.  This non profit organization performs for over 1.5 million people and donates over 2250 hours to the community each year.  With an average of 12 ladies per season, each member donates over 94 hours each 6 month season on top of 2 practices per week and an average of 4 performances per month!

The BPT and their partners reached out to a very special family this past holiday season to make all their Christmas wishes come true.  Wendy Kraus, BPT Coach and Big Brother & Big Sisters of Colorado Match Coordinator, received a very brave and unselfish phone call from a single mother reaching out for some holiday assistance for her 4 children.  Her story:

The Smiths (name has been changed to protect the privacy of the family) are a very close family that show love and respect to each other on a daily basis.  Jane (name has been changed) their mother, has been forced to work two jobs ever since their biological father was incarcerated for domestic violence among many other things.  Recently the family suffered a set back when she was laid-off from her second job.  The kids understand the situation and have accepted the fact that Christmas will be celebrated without any gifts, decorations, or a large family meal.  This reality was hard at first, but they have all stood behind her and understood that she tried.

When Wendy heard this story, it hit her hard and she immediately started to think of ways to help.  Denver is a great city where there are many opportunities to get help through places like the United way, various church organizations, and the Denver Rescue Mission.  However, these opportunities are on a first come first serve basis and the resources are limited on how many families qualify to get the help they need.  She then started talking with Cher Fox, BPT Director, about this family and they agreed that this would be an amazing way for the BPT to give back to the community on a personal level.  It would be a chance to broaden their purpose in the community and challenge them to make a difference outside of what they do on an entertainment level.

Wendy knew that often times it is hard to find the ability to give when you are burdened with your own family issues and financial obligations for the holidays.   However, when sharing the burden with others and coming together as a collective group, great things can be accomplished.  Anything they could give to this family would be greatly appreciated and cherished.  She challenged the BPT to get creative and help make this happen together as a team for this very deserving family.

The team rallied over a one week period to come up for the following items for the family:

A complete holiday meal - turkey, pie, vegetables, jello, potatoe casserole, hot chocolate, gravy, and stuffing

A complete Christmas package - tree, decorations, lights, tree stand, tree skirt, candy canes and star top

Gifts for the mom: Sweaters, Purse, Pants, Jackets, Jewelry, Candle Set, Spa Bath and Feet Sets

Gifts for the teenage daughter: Coat, Jacket, 4 shirts, 2 pairs shoes, 2 purses, Sweatshirt, Spa Bath and Feet Sets, Jewelry

Gifts for the teenage boys: X-Box, 3 Games for X-Box, 2 Adidas basketball bags, 2 video game floor chairs, and 4 square balls

The family also received from BPT partners:

Hot Shots Photography - Family Sitting and Portrait Package

Aesthetic Nurse Specialists - Sugar Body Scrub, Facial Gift Certificate, and Sanitas Product Samples

Rocky Mountain Rollergirls - Hats for the children

BPT Leadership, Director Cher Fox and Coaches Wendy Kraus and Erica Hopkins, delivered the holiday package to the Smiths on Saturday, December 15th.  "Jane was very grateful, thanking us and fighting back the tears in her eyes, being strong for her family," shares Cher.  "The family immediately setup the tree and couldn't believe the continued unloading of items from 2 full delivery vehicles.  It was a proud moment for the BPT to do something so impactful this holiday season.  I also want to thank our partners who made last minute donations to really round out this family's Christmas.  We couldn't have made such an incredible difference to this family's holiday season without all the dancers and our organization's partners.

The BPT Rock Texas

The Belles Performance Team returned from attending the Ft. Worth Alliance Air Show this past weeked with excitement and fond memories. Over 200,000 aviation enthusiasts attended the show and many stopped to see the BPT perform dance routines that spanned in music from the 1960's to today.

The BPT were a special hit at Saturday nights VIP Ramp party, where they performed for many of the military personnel that were performing and exhibiting at the show. Pilots from the Navy Blue Angels and the Army Sky Soldiers were in attendance. This was truly the Top Gun of today's military pilots. Each branch of the armed forces gave the BPT members pins, stickers and patches, trying to brand them as their own.

"It was a small USO style performance," states Cher Fox, BPT Owner and Executive Director, "but the personnel kept yelling for encore after encore! It was really a unique and exciting opportunity for the BPT, one I will never forget!"

Sunday, the BPT spent the day with the crew of the hybrid helicopter/plane, the Osprey, featured in last week's smash DVD release The Transformers. They assisted the crew with merchandise sales, performed for the hundreds of people standing in line to tour the unique aircraft, took pictures on and around the aircraft and shot a high definition video of the BPT performing in front of the Osprey. What a day!

Monday morning, Southwest Academy welcomed the BPT to talk about the organization and perform for the students. Although most of the students were strict Dallas Cowboys fans, they engaged in Q & A with the Belles on topics such as dancer biographies and the planes featured on the BPT's 2007 aviation themed poster. After 2 performances which left one student speechless and "without comment it was so good", the BPT autographed the posters and wished the students well with the rest of their school day.

"This trip was especially close to my heart," comments Cher. "My parents, Joe and Cae Sullivan, hosted the team for the weekend and my nephew attends Southwest Academy, so it was an honor to share my passion and love of dance with him and his fellow students. He was so proud to have us there, he could barely find the courage and words to introduce us! That is him in the front row on the right proudly displaying our poster. Thanks Mom and Dad for the slumber party!"

The Belles plan to repeat this exciting event when they attend the Aviation Nation Airshow in Las Vegas the weekend of Veteran's Day in November.

rmrglogosmall

We are proud to announce our newest partnership with the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls!

After one very well received exhibition by the Belles Performance Team at the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls roller derby bout in September, the RMRG offered the BPT a contract to be their offical dancers for the rest of the 2007 roller derby season. After the BPT's first appearance as the official dancers of the RMRG October 6th, the RMRG and BPT decided this exciting partnership of beautiful and talented women dancers supporting the most beautiful and talented roller derby ladies was a match made in heaven. The organizations are currently negotiationg an exclusive 2008 contract.

"We all love having the Belles perform and it seems like the fans LOVE it too," shares RMRG Bout Production Director Madam MaimYa. "We enjoy creating and supporting female empowered business like the Belles and would love to further the relationship."

"The RMRG skaters and fans have been so welcoming and appreciative of the BPT," states BPT Owner and Executive Director Cher Fox. "We have partnered with many male run organizations over the years and have never received the amount of respect and appreciation as we have from the RMRG organization. The skaters/ladies thank us after every bout for performing and have embraced us as their own."

Belles Selected to be the Exclusive Cover Models for Two New Fictional Romance Novel Series

Darnell Spirit Productions, the book publishers just for cheer and dance, have selected the Belles Performance Team to provide all the cover models for 2 new fictional romance novel series. The first, Sideline Romances, are adult romance stories centered around the world of cheerleading. The second, Spotlight Romances, is centered around the world of dance.

After working together to create the cover for the book The Ultimate Guide to Successful Semi Pro Spirit Teams, Melissa Darnell of DSP and Cher Fox of the BPT agreed that the BPT would be a great partner in producing the covers for these new romance series.

"The Belles have such a versatile and chameleon look as an independent spirit team," shares Fox. "We change uniforms frequently, have a variety of colors and styles to choose from, as well as offer a new group of possible models with each 6 month season." Fox adds, "The level of beauty and talent of the dancers we have each season is amazing and we are honored to have the opportunity to continue to represent professional entertainment in these new series."

Fox, Owner and Executive Director of the BPT, was selected as the cover model for the first Sideline Romance novel, Missed Performances. Additional BPT members, Wendy K., Erica H., Tiffany K. and Amber P. are featured as additional fictional team members in satellite pictures on the cover.

Darnell contacted Fox in February of this year, "The Belles have the type of team uniforms and look that we're needing for these cover models, and many of the ladies (including Fox) would be perfect for these covers. The red and blue uniforms are perfect for the type of look the cheer-themed Sideline Romances Series will be shooting for, and the purple and black uniforms match what we'll be going for with the dance-themed Spotlight Romances Series."

Fox was surprised at her selection by Darnell as the cover model to represent the first book. "I am so excited to be the first cover model for this series. Representing this heroine and the face readers will recall as they take this journey, is a treasured opportunity for me. I look forward to the production of future covers with additional members of the BPT."

Former BPT member, Jamie K., has been preselected for the second cover in the Sideline series, Homecoming. The first two novels are authored by Savannah Austin. The cover models' photography is provided by Harvey Simring of Hot Shots Photography, current business partner of the BPT.

The Belles and The Line Up team up to create the new Belles signature uniform

The Belles Performance Team is proud to announce its partnership with The Line Up to create the new Belles signature patriotic uniform. The Line Up, based in Minnesota, makes professional uniforms for many NFL, NBA, AFL, etc. entertainment teams including the local Denver Nuggets Dancers, Colorado Crush Girls, and Colorado Mammoth Wild Bunch.

After 3 years with the red with navy insets and silver stars uniform, the Belles will be switching the color scheme to have navy as the main color with red insets. The new uniform will be adorned with almost 100 clear diamond Swarovski crystals. Owner/Executive Director of the Belles, Cher Fox, is the primary designer on the new uniform, as she was on the first red uniform. "I am so excited about this new uniform." states Fox who added, "the Colorado community has been so receptive to our patriotic theme, we will strive to continue that image and tradition with this new look."

Although the former silver star theme will not remain, Fox promises stars will still be utilized as part of these new pieces. The silver pom pons and the recently added silver knee high go go boots will continue the BPT tradition. The Belles worked previously with the Line Up to develop a chameleon black uniform last spring. The Line Up also produces individual dance and audition wear. The new patriotic uniform will be unveiled to the public in the Downtown Denver Veteran's Day Parade, Saturday, November 11, 2006.
