Tommy the Pundit - Latest Update 14/12/07

Tommy The Pundit

Here is an update at how the Championship/Promotion spots are looking up and down the leagues.

Premier Division Champions – This is still a long way to be decided but Irvine Meadow are clearly the favourites with 22 points after 9 games, a 5 point lead over ourselves in the league and if potentially their closest challengers Pollok win their game in hand they will be 4 points ahead of them with only one game between them to play.

Premier Division Relegation – Kilsyth and Bellshill are at the bottom of the league with 7 and 8 points respectively. Whether they eventually get out of the bottom two is another thing but looking at things they will certainly be involved in the dogfight at the bottom.

Premier Division Play Off Shotts, Cumnock and Arthurlie are the 3 likely contenders at this stage and of course it is possible one of them might switch places with the current bottom 2. The previous few years has shown that 23 points has been enough to avoid 3rd bottom place. Other teams can of course be dragged in. Arthurlie need 12 points from 12 games.Cumnock need 13 points from 13 games.Shotts need 13 points from 12 games.Bellshill need 15 points from 13 games.Kilsyth need 16 points from 13 games.

Tommy’s Tip – Shotts to be in the bottom 3

1st Division Champions – Looks to be between current leaders on goal difference Vale of Clyde and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy who if they win their 2 games in hand will go 6 points into the lead. Other dark horses, Clydebank and East Kilbride.

Tommy’s Tip – Rob Roy

1st Division 2nd Place – 2nd place I would give to Vale of Clyde, with the dark horses those mentioned above.

Tommy’s Tip – Vale of Clyde

1st Division Play Off – East Kilbride may be in a better position than the Bankies but I’m not sure they’ve got the legs for it after the way they fell away at the end of last season. So my tip is for the Bankies to make it into the play off.

1st Division Relegation – Burgh look to be dead and gone with only 1 point after 8 games. Next up looking likely is Troon in 2nd bottom place with 7 points after 10 games. 3rd bottom currently is Maryhill with 9 points after 8 and look the most likely of the bottom 3 to escape at this stage. 4th bottom and not looking as strong at present as Maryhill is Renfrew although they have had a recent resurgence and if this continues then I wouldn’t bet against them escaping the bottom 4. With the 28/30 point total in mind, Annbank, Kilwinning and Lesmahagow may get dragged into the dogfight if they don’t watch out.

Tommy’s tips –Burgh, Troon, Maryhill and Annbank (Maryhill getting the decision over Frew due to the large negative goal difference)

Ayrshire District League – This looks like a battle between Whitletts (22 from 10 -who came so close last year),Girvan (21 from 9),Craigmark (21 from 8) ,Hurlford (17 from 8) and Dalry (17 from 8). T

Tommy’s Tip for 1st place – Girvan, 2nd place - Hurlford

Central District League Div 1 –Port Glasgow and Lanark top the division with 22 and 21 points respectively both having played 9 games. Ashfield look to be the only other real challengers right now with 20 points after 10 games.

Tommy’s Tip for 1st place – Lanark, 2nd place – Port Glasgow

Central District League Div 2 – Vale of Leven top the division with 18 points from 9 games closely followed by Carluke with 17 from 9 and Cambuslang with 16 from 10.

Tommy’s Tip for 1st place – Vale of Leven, 2nd place – Carluke
