JOHN CRAIG has enjoyed cup success in Ayrshire in eight years with Beith but has his eye on bigger prizes this term.

The striker was part of the Bellsdale Park club's promotion-winning side last season and can't wait to compete with the leading sides on a weekly basis for the first time in the Super League top flight

Craig said: "We've won the League Cup, Ayrshire Cup and North Ayrshire Cup in the time I've been here but all the major honours have eluded me.

"This is an exciting time for us. All the boys have been together for a few years now and are raring to go.

"Earning a place in the Premier Division has certainly been the highlight of my time at Beith.

"Some of the other guys in the dressing room have had a taste of it and this is the stage everyone wants to perform on, so it is great to get the opportunity.

"Before now we have only ever met the big clubs in oneoff cup competitions but now we will be playing them week in, week out." Craig works for a tool fitters and insists he is fully equipped to inflict serious damage on opposition defences when the league campaign gets under way.

He said: "I work for a company called Martin Plant Hire and I suppose you could say I have the tools to be a success in the top league.

"This is a great club to play for. Although we have had some bad times hopefully there are good times just around the corner.

"I scored 15 goals last season which was great for me personally and as a team we are going from strength to strength.

"Our gaffer Frank Lynch enjoyed an incredible amount of success with Arthurlie and he has managed to revive the fortunes of Beith.

"We may not have as much money as most of the teams we will be going in against have at their disposal but we are confident we can hold our own although, of course, only time will tell if that is the case."
