The Vicky Mawdsley interview...
Vicky Mawdsley IS Bedford Ladies FC. The all time top goalscorer with approaching 400 goals, Captain of the Ladies first team, Club Captain and U13 Manager. She's still only 20 (incredibly) yet has achieved so much within our set up. We asked her some questions...
1. What's your earliest memory of the club?
Training at Cutler Hammer which consisted of a game of British Bulldog with Mark Standish in charge. Zara Carroll and Hayley Brewitt were there ( i think). I had just turned 9.
Oh yeah, and Dave chasing Carissa around training because she kept swearing at him.. we were about 12. The first game i remember was when i was 11.. we lost 21-1 against Newport Pagnell.. BAD TIMES.
2. What do you think has been the most important change that has happened in the last 10 years?
The fact we train twice a week, the club is alot more professional and structured. Things like training tops, our tournament and tour.
3. Why have you always stayed with Bedford, what keeps you here?
I play football because i love it, at Bedford I know my place so i know when to work hard and when to have a laugh.  And TOUR! It is the highlight of the season. Im proud to be  part of this club, i couldnt play for anyone else if i tried. If this club folded, i doubt i'd play again.
4. Who is your best friend at the club?
Thats a tough one, Carissa possibly.. Most of my closest friends are at the club, thats why i train twice a week and sulk all day if we havent got a game.
5. Tell me a secret about Bedford Ladies.
Families dont have secrets.
6. Who trains the hardest?
Pete. Na ermm the Keeches.. they are ALWAYS at training.
7. What do you find frustrating?
That not all the girls/ ladies/ parents have the same enthusiam about the club that the majority do.
8. Can you remember how many goals you've scored? Do you have a favourite goal?
I hope you dont mean this season as it is not as many.. but about 360 ish i think. Favourite goal.. when I scored against Arsenal in a tournament.. i was about 12.
9. What's your aim in football?
To get to 400 goals.. i'd be more than happy with that.
10. You've been coaching the U13 this season, how has it been?
Great yeah, im really enjoying it. Iv got a lovely bunch of girls with so much talent! The parents are very supportive as well which is good. The girls are still getting used to how quiet i am compared to Dave!
11. Tell me a junior player you rate highly and why?
Oooohhh I've got a few... Sophie Smith is quality.. her touch, strength and vision is a different level to anyone her age. Im excited she's signed for the Ladies. And Jess Keech.. she can go games in goal without having a touch of the ball but she never loses focus. She never misses goalkeeper training and shes got a great attitude, as a striker i know how hard it is to play against a good goalie.. i wouldnt like to play against her. Then there's Chelsea Hunter, Cyeanne Eaton, Brenna Ryan, Charlie Lancaster, Kiah Powell, Abi Lloyd, Nina Regolo and Shelbee Clarke who are amazing.
12. What's the most fun thing about playing football?
I love playing because i dont have to think, i just play.
13. Were you good at other sports, what is your favourite other sport?
At school i was good at rounders, netball and basketball.. but my favourite other sport now is probably dodgeball. Throw balls at people you dont like.. what a good idea that is.
14. Why are Liverpool (your team) doing so badly?
WE NEED MONEY.. Losing Xabi Alonso.. Zonal Marking.. MR BENITEZ.
15. Who are your role models.
I really dont know.. i look up to anyone who believes in themselves and doesn't give up.
