Bears Youth Running Club Registration Form & A note about a wonderful guy named Greg we recently lost
WE'LL MISS YOU, GREG
The Bears Youth Running Club sends its deepest condolences to the Karakas family. Several years ago, proceeds from the Bears' annual Stillwater Stampede went to help the Karakas family as they were going through some financial strain with their son, Greg, battling cancer. Greg himself, wearing a heavy neck brace, started the race. Several years later, Greg had beaten his cancer and returned to The Stampede to run it. It was so exciting to see him toeing the line. Sadly, Greg's cancer returned and yesterday, he lost his battle. He was known by many in the community and will be missed by all. Our love and prayers go out to Greg's family.
THE 2000 BEARS YOUTH RUNNING PROGRAM TO START WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd
Bears Youth Running Program offers fitness and fun for elementary and middle school kids
The Bears Youth Running Program will enter its’ 14th season this fall. The program, which has already touched the lives of over 500 children, is open to elementary and middle school kids and runs from September until Thanksgiving. It entails two practices each week during which volunteer coaches teach kids about running and instill in them the many positive physical and mental aspects of the sport, setting and achieving goals and being on a team. No child is turned away, practices involve a lot of fun and prizes, and kids of all different abilities are welcome to join The Bears.
This fall’s Bears season starts on Wednesday, September 2nd. Practices are then held every Monday and Wednesday evening from 5 to 6 pm at Swartswood State Park. There are several races which are held as part of practice including: The Columbus Day Mile, The Halloween Mile (followed by a costume competition) and the Thanksgiving Mile.
Cost is just $25 per child which includes the entire season, practices and a Bears uniform shirt.
The Bears is coached by volunteer coaches, so we do ask that parents are prompt when dropping off and retreiving their kids. Many thanks to our volunteer coaches!
Please make checks payable to: The Bears Running Club and mail to: Coach Laurie Gordon, 946 Edgewood Drive, Newton, NJ 07860. You can also call 973-271-6624 or e-mail BearsRunningClub@aol.com to reserve a spot and pay the first day of practice by check or cash.
