The Bay State Brats traveled to Frank Deluca Hall of Fame Field in Stratford, CT on Friday, July 24th as took on the Stratford Brakettes. The Brakettes program is recognized as the greatest organized women's sports franchise of all time.  The Brakettes have 28 National Champioships to their credit.  The Brats lost the opening game of the doubleheader 4-0. The Brats got exceptional pitching from Kristen Mahoney. The Brats only hit was a perfectly executed drag bunt from Jenna Lipscomb.  It was the first time in a long time that a team has gone 7 inning with the Brakettes. In the 2nd game, it looked like the Brats would hang with the Brakettes again until the inning from hell(sloppy defensive play) put an end to that. The Brakettes scored 12 runs in the second inning all with 2 outs with the final score eventually being 14-5.  The good news is the Brats were able to score 5 runs, only 1 other team, a professional team(Philadelphia Force) has scored 5 or more runs against the Brakettes......scoring 5 runs is a great accomplisment. Emily Leverone led the Brats with 2 hits, with Marissa Palumbo, Brenna Morrissey, & Ashley Bilodeau having a hit of their own.  Marissa Palumbo, Casey Stoodley, & Brenna Morrissey all shined defensively.

With Hillary Smith out due to an injured leg, and Casey Stoodley unable to bat due to an injured hand, the Brats looked for some offensive help for Sunday.  The Brats did get that help with the return of Kate Murray & the addition of Jenna Lipscomb. Both Crusher & Jenna definately gave the Brats the spark they needed to turn things around. They opened the single elimination portion of the tournament with an 8-1 thrasing of the Seacoast Hurricanes.  Up next for the Brats was the #1 seed Bucksport Lady Bucks of Maine. The Lady Bucks beat up on the Brats Saturday by the score of 7-2, but the #8 seed Brats turned the tables on the Lady Bucks Sunday and destroyed them 12-1.    The semi-finals found the Brats facing the always tough Concord Raiders. Next were the Florida Bullets. They were projected to win the whole thing, but the Brats had other plans as they sent them packing behind the pitching performance of Hannah Everson, the clutch hitting of Caelyn Ford, Kate Murray, Kyla Sherwood, and Lindsay Maroney, and the exceptional defense of Casey Stoodley and Brenna Morrissey . The power house RI Thunder Gold was next. Another outstanding pitching performance by Durso as she allowed only 1 run while striking out 4. The Brats bats exploded early and often against the Thunder as Caelyn Ford and Brenna Morrissey led the way with 2 hits apiece, with Michelle Kelley and Casey Stoodley each adding long triples.
