Bayern News: CELTIC CUP 2004 THOUGHTS

New Image
Monday, March 22
(Click on heading for full story.) The Bayern Team had a great weekend playing the Celtic Cup at the CYSA Soccer Complex, winning 3 of the 4 very tough games.

Bayern was seeded in the toughest Bracket within the top Flight, with the Revolution (win 2:1) -- a team that went 11:0 in U19 Gold last year; Socal Blues (loss 0:2) -- a team that had 6 Div. 1 college players in addition to last seasons Premier team; and the Bakersfield Gunners (win 4:2) -- a team put together for this Tournament with Div. 1 and Div. 2 college players.   Additionally the Apex Ricochet (win 3:2) won the Chevrolet State Open Cup last year.

"It was important for the Team to find their way back to score many goals (most in bracket), as with the injuries of the forwards last year we went through a bit of a drought. We look forward to State Cup, as we will improve our game even more with almost 4 weeks to go."

The team knew that they had a legitimate chance to advance with a little luck, and although outplayed by the Blues, a tie was possible, as they missed a few great scoring opportunities and the Blues' GK made some great saves at the end of the contest.

It wasn't even a lucky guess, that the team that advanced from Bayern's tough bracket won the tournament, as the Blues destroyed Socal United 4:0 in the Final. Interestingly enough, all teams seeded in this bracket won their play-off game on Sunday as well.

Only to be denied the Finals by way of tie-breaker was tough, but the team played extremely well, and winning the consolation game in the afternoon, after falling behind showed also strong character. Thank you all for making this a very successful start of the season.
