Dan Calichman is the Technical Director and Head Coach of Crown City United. Dan's responsibilities include oversight of Club-wide technical and tactical training and developmental programs. He works with each Coach, Team and Team Manager on a weekly basis to help in the ongoing development of our youth and their training regimes.

Dan is also the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Claremont McKenna College, just completing a successful 2002 campaign that saw his team go 12-2 and a second place finish in the SCIAC.

He is also part of the CATZ organization (affiliated with the National Strength and Conditioning Association), the premiere sports performance organization in the world), a Pasadena-based company that is dedicated to speed, agility and injury prevention training.

Calichman's professional soccer career spans 12 years. He was captain and central defender of the Los Angeles Galaxy from 1996-98 and was voted best Major League Soccer defender by USA Today in 1996. He also played for two other MLS teams--the San Jose Earthquakes and the New England Revolution. He played for the United States National Team from 1997-98 and was the first and only American player to play in the J-League, Japan's professional soccer league.

"I'm very excited to be a part of the Crown City United family. My goals are simple and straight forward - I want to take this Club to the next level and establish it as a national youth soccer power."

Calichman graduated from Williams College with a bachelor's degree in history, where he was captain of the college's Division III soccer and lacrosse teams. He is one of the few professional players to have advanced directly from Division III soccer to a successful MLS career.

Dan is a family man, residing in Pasadena with his wife and two young children. He possesses a wealth of knowledge of soccer and is active within the soccer community. Dan has a great passion for the game, a dynamic personality and relationships in the coaching and training community.

Dan's relationships in the college coaching ranks provide Crown City United families much greater insight and access to college soccer programs throughout the United States.

Hannes Sheen started his soccer career in Germany at the age of 5. As a youth player he was part of the championship team winning the Regional/State Youth Soccer A (U-17) League in Germany. He went on to play for the WWU University, Westfalia, Germany and then played professionally with Muenster 08, Germany. Hannes played until knee injuries forced him to retire at the age of 27.   His first Coaching job was in Germany's 5th Division at the age of 26.

Since moving to the United States, Hannes has become a successful business owner. He never stopped his love and affiliation for the game, however, and started coaching Youth teams in the United States in 1990. He has been coaching in California since 1998. In 2002-03 he coached the Bayern team to a 2nd place finish in the Gold U18 bracket, and in 2001-02 he coached this team to the first place spot in the Coast Soccer League Silver Elite bracket. As was true in previous years, many of Hannes' Bayern players were awarded top honors this year in their respective high school Division, League, and/or Area and/or at the Team level. Three players were on CIF Division IV championship teams and two of the graduating seniors are going to Division I schools on soccer scholarships. These honors and awards are a credit to the coaching and development of these club players – coaching and development which helped them attain this high level of skill – as well as a testament to the very real talent and depth of this team.

Hannes also coaches with the World Youth Soccer Academy ( out of Orlando, Florida and Soccer Made in America Clinics ( in Chicago, Illinois.

Recently Hannes has developed a new Training, Recruiting and Coaching tool to help coaches and trainers analyze players with the help of a Hi-Tech Video Device called the Soccer Cam (

Currently the coach of the Under-14 Blue team, Oswaldo Monroy Vargas has been playing professional soccer for more than 12 years in the United States and Mexico. In Mexico, he played for Atlante, Taxcala, Veracruz, Acapulco and in indoor professional leagues with Shuma and Marchán in some of the largest soccer venues in Mexico including Estadio Azteca, home of the World Cup finals in 1970 and 1986.

In the United States, Oswaldo has played for the Indianapolis Twisters in the Continental Indoor Soccer League, the Orange County Zodiac in the American League and with the Highlander Valley Eagles. While playing with the Indianapolis Twisters he was named the first player in the franchise to complete a hat trick while playing against the Houston Hot Shots. Because of this feat, he was named Player of the Week in the Continental Indoor Soccer League.

Oswaldo has also been captain of the National Mexican Indoor Soccer Team, leading them to the championship of the Centroamericano Indoor Tournament. He was also a member of the All-Star Mexican team which competed in tournament play throughout the United States.

Oswaldo's experience as a coach has ranged from working with 6 year-olds to adults and has included positions as Head Coach with Deportivo Maruchán (National Indoor Professional Soccer League in Mexico), National Bank of Mexico, indoor and outdoor soccer, Ramona Convent's Varsity Soccer Team and Ultimate Soccer School. He has been an instructor in AYSO clinics for the Alhambra, San Gabriel and South Pasadena regions. Giving back to the community, Oswaldo has provided instruction for after-school soccer programs for the youth in the Norwalk School District in Southern California.

Oswaldo has a deep passion for the sport which has shaped his life and allowed him to meet wonderful people and experience new places. For him, soccer is much more than a sport. It is a lifestyle to be lived with discipline, consistency, hard work and love. A huge component of Oswaldo's success has been the love and support of his family: his parents, Juan and Malena, his sisters, Reyna and Claudia, and his little nephew, Ander Omar, who he misses very much.

Crown City United welcomes Oswaldo and his desire to share that passion for the game of soccer.
