APRIL SYKES (Class of 2008)
Mississippi's version of Seimone Augustus
This nearly 6'0" Sophomore has the potential to be Women's basketball next ambassador. She possesses the same qualities that Seimone Augustus, Alana Beard, Diana Taurasi, Chamika Holsclaw, Tan White and Lotoya Thomas had at the same age in their careers. She has excellent ballhandling skills and is almost impossible to check one on one. She has the best offensive skills that I have seen at the high school level since Siemone Augustus. She is a great passer who keeps the defense guessing when the ball is in her hands. She can also post up & rebound as well. Her defensive skills are far more advanced than that of a player at her age (14 years old). As a freshman she led her high school team in scoring by averaging more than 25 point per game. She has already been identified by colleges in every major conference as one of the Top returning sophomores in the country. Her mother Regina, as well as her aunt played college basketball at Jackson State University. Her youngest aunt just finished her freshman year at Southwest Tennessee Community college in Memphis. So she definitely comes from a basketball family. I had the privilige of watching Seimone Augustus' high school career in Baton Rouge. I wish I had a plane to get me to every game that April's high school team East Oktibbeha will be playing in the next 3 years. I'm pretty sure she, along with her high school teammates will put on a show. So far this summer she has already attended High School player ELITE CAMPS at LSU & Mississippi St. U. She has been invited to play on several Traveling Elite Summer teams as well as some Junior Phenom Camps. She will attend the ADDIAS TOP TEN CAMP in July,2005. Stay tuned for an update on her future events. Keep your eyes on the prize of 2008. The prize will be April Sykes.
