Former BHS player shines on diamond
Justin Hall is Mars Hill's ace pitcher
By CHASE YOUNG - Bulletin Sports Writer
Justin Hall recently received Pitcher of the Week honors from the South Atlantic Conference.
“It’s definitely a big deal,” said Hall, a pitcher for Mars Hill College. “I’ve pretty much wanted it since I’ve been at college. I think it’s nine teams in the conference, 20 pitchers per team, so it’s a big deal for me. I’ve always wanted that.”
Hall, who graduated from Bassett High School in 2006 — the same year he won the Piedmont District’s player of the year award — has utilized a love for the game, hard work and determination to improve his skills over the years.
Now, he’s starting to reap the benefits, according to BHS baseball coach Bill Parks. ...............Click link at article headline to read the whole article
Justin Hall named South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne’s Evan Taylor has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Mars Hill’s Justin Hall earned league Pitcher of the Week honors announced conference officials Tuesday.
Taylor, a 6-2, 195-pound junior outfielder from Charlotte, N.C., is batting .520 in the first two weeks of the season for the Bears going 13-for-25 with 13 RBI. The Independence High School graduate has recorded a hit in every game this season, including his 4-for-5 effort against Wingate in a non-conference game on Feb. 3. Taylor led Lenoir-Rhyne to a doubleheader sweep over No. 1 and defending NCAA Division II national champion Mount Olive this past Saturday. In the sweep, Taylor went 5-for-8 with four RBI, a double and a home run. Through seven games, Taylor has tallied three doubles and three home runs to post a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Hall, a 6-0, 205-pound junior right-hander, recorded a pair of wins in his two weekend starts to open the 2009 campaign. The Martinsville, Va. hasn’t allowed an earned run in his 12 innings of work this year. In MHC’s 9-1 win at Belmont Abbey, Hall scattered four hits, allowed an unearned run, walked one and struck out nine. The Bassett High School product followed that performance a week later as he pitched six shutout innings against Salem International. In the Lions’ 10-6 win, Hall limited SIU to five hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
Justin Hall improves record to (2-0) on season (Box Score)
Hall goes 6 innings allowing 0 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk, and recording 5 K's.
Former Bengal Justin Hall wins opener for Mars Hill (Box Score)
Justin Hall goes 6 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits, 1 walk, and recording 9 K's.
Baseball/Softball Club (Virginia Baseball Association) next meeting Monday, May 11th.
