Bounce Pass
|
What do you guys think of bounce passes?
I think they're great because they keep the ball out of the space where the opposing player can get their hands on the ball (and they can't kick the ball).
I ask because last year my son wasn't taught to bounce pass, and they had tons of turnovers (I think as a result).

well i believe in using the bounce pass exspecially in close ranges cause most coaches dont get the kids aware of blocking the ball on the floore just at the waist

Re: Bounce Pass

It's an important pass and should be in their arsenal. Bo Ryan at WI even teaches a roll pass into the post. It's a quick roll. But the idea is an extreme take on the bounce pass. The idea is that most defenses don't want to bend over to pick up a ball, especially in the post. If you can get your posts to play wide, a bounce or roll are very effective. The bounce can be used in many other places too, especially against teams who jump at all ball fakes. Fake high to get them moving upward and then deliver a bounce pass.

Re: Bounce Pass

It all depends on the situation whether it is good to use a bounce pass or not. I played Division 2 college basketball for 4 yrs at a very well respected university and I found bounce passes obviously work out better in different situations. Passing to the post could be a bounce pass, depending on how your big man wants to receive the ball and the size of the player guarding them. Sometimes they like it up high so they can turn right into there shot, other times they like to receive it low, as in a bounce pass so they can turn and face up and take their time to make a low post move. Now if you're passing it around the perimeter at long distance's the bounce pass would not be as effective, as it takes longer to get to another player and has a better chance of getting stolen. Overall it is a good pass to have in your arsenal, so the player could go to it when the situation calls for it.
