Biographies:
Steve Miller
Head Varsity Baseball Coach
Steve Miller came to Archbishop Spalding H.S. in 2003. Coach Miller grew up in Hyattsville, MD where he played basketball for the legendary Morgan Wooten, and was an all-met shortstop for the DeMatha baseball program. Coach Miller accepted a baseball scholarship to the University of MD where he was named ACC Rookie of the year. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 13th round in 1983 where he played from 1983-1988. In 1989 he was traded to the San Diego Padres organization. He went on to a scouting position with the Detroit Tigers organization from 1989-1991. He started as the coach at Spalding in 2003 and was named Baltimore Sun Coach of the Year in 2004. Miller resides in Crofton with wife Linda and sons Stephen and Sean.

Jimmy Jackson
Varsity Pitching Coach
Coach Jackson is in his fourth year as pitching coach for the Spalding Varsity baseball team. Coach Jackson was an all-met pitcher/shortstop at Old Mill H.S. and went on to have a successful college career at Sheppard College in West Virginia. Following college, Coach Jackson was signed professionally by the Frontier League and Atlantic League as a pitcher. Coach Jackson resides in Glen Burnie, MD.

Prior to his appointment to Spalding, Coach Smith was a player/coach for the Washington Printers, an amateur baseball team, for the past 10 years. Coach Smith’s baseball philosophy is to help develop his players to succeed at the varsity level.
Coach Smith matriculated through Bowie High School and graduated in l986. His positions for the Bowie Bulldogs were pitcher and outfielder. In l986, he was Prince George’s County Player of the Year and also an All Metro Recipient. He graduated from High Point University in High Point, NC, in l991. He received a scholarship and played baseball for the Panthers for 3 years. He was a pitcher and outfielder. In l990, he earned the distinction of First Team All Conference for High Point University. He is also a member of the Home Plate Club’s All-Quarter Century Amateur Baseball Team.
Continuing his baseball skills he represented the United States in a world tournament held in Cuba in l993. As a result, Team USA won the Bronze Medal that year. He was 1-1 in the tournament with a win over the Dominican Republic and a loss to Cuba in the medal round. Professionally, Coach Smith is a Regional Director of Financial Sales for Travelex Commercial Foreign Exchange.
Coach Smith and wife, Kristin, have four children and currently reside in Severn, MD.

Coach Zimmerman is a tireless worker for the Spalding Baseball family. Coach “Z” has been involved in baseball for over 40 years in Anne Arundel County. He is a favorite of the players and an astute evaluator and teacher. This will be Coach “Z”’s fourth year at Spalding H.S.
