TRYOUT ORGANIZATION

I am a coach and board member for Little League baseball in York, PA. One of the biggest problems we had a tryouts was with the coaches hearing the names(and remembering) which kid was taking his/her turn batting or fielding. This lead to a lot of confusion and wasted time identifying and repeating which kid just ran through the tryout drill.

Based on a suggestion from another coach in the league(Mike Guttman) we solved this problem by buying numbers like the ones used in track & field events. Each kid is given a number to wear during the entire tryout time. We assign the numbers to each kid prior to the tryout and the "tryout number" is listed next to the kid's name on the tryout sheet. This makes it very easy for all the coaches to identify all of the kids. At the end of the tryout the kids return the numbers and we used them the next year.
