  Off Topic Question
Has anybody had experience with a local Little League that decided to switch to another organization, i.e. Cal Ripken?

Specifically, what happens to the money and other assets of the local LL? Does Williamsport or the appropriate regional LL HQs tend to get involved in this question, or do they acquiesce to the transfer of assets?

DM;

This should all be spelled out in your Local LL Constitution.

This is the section from my local LL Constitution:

SECTION 8. DISTRIBUTION OF PROPERTY UPON DISSOLUTION. Upon dissolution of XXLL and after all outstanding debts and claims have been satisfied, the Members shall direct the remaining property of XXLL to another Federally Incorporated entity which maintains the same objectives as set forth herein, which are or may be entitled to the exemption under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code or any future corresponding provision.

Yup - we switched from LL to Ripken 3 years ago, as have a couple of other local orgs. If nobody objects LL won't get involved. That's what happened with us. If somebody DOES want to stay LL then LL will support them in their efforts to keep the league's assets.

Your org should have rules as to what happens to the assets if the org dissolves, e.g. the BoD can donate them to another non-profit.

  Re: Off Topic Question
It depends on the people involved (as CB said).
If some people want to "stay" with LL then they are entitled to keep the assets and LL (Williampsort) will get involved if need be.
If everyone decides to go with the new organization then LL won't fight it.
This should be described in your league Constitution.
