NFHS Rules
|
I am looking for an electronic copy of the latest NFHS baseball rules. I ordered a copy and it didn't show up and we have an out of town tournament next week that plays with these rules. Can someone please help me out?
Thanks!
Rich

"There isn't one"
Not true. If you belong to NFHS (or are in a state that does), you can get it from the NFHS site.

Directly from the NFHS website:
NFHS Publications Library
The NFHS makes the rules and case books for high school sports and activities available online in the Publications Library. You must be a paid member of an NFHS Member Association (Coaches or Officials) or a state staff member to view this content
I have d/l the basketball books. I don't care to d/l the baseball books at this time.
However, here is a copy-and-paste of the information:
December,08 2008 2009 NFHS Baseball Rules Book (2 MB)
I can't explain your error, but maybe someone at the NFHS can. (Maybe they reset your password or userid -- you can request that it be emailed to you)

Re: NFHS Rules

I did get a response from NFHS this morning. They claim that I can send them $20.00 or $30.00 if I want the insurance and then I will be able to access the information. I thought that paying my yearly association dues to MHSAA would mean I was a member of NFHS. Apparently that is not the case.

"I thought that paying my yearly association dues to MHSAA would mean I was a member of NFHS. "
Only some states (I don't know the number; it might be fairly high) are "100% participation states" where a portion of your state dues goes to the NFHS and you are a member.

Re: NFHS Rules

I have created an account, I am a paying member, a friend of mine even joined the site itself with a credit card and he gets the same error that I do indicating that you must be a paying member to access. If there is ANYONE out there who has obtained the rules from the NFHS site please advise how you did it, but from my experience to this point...............there isnt one.
I dont think you will see it on line either. If they allow access to umpires online it would only be a matter of time before it would be public domain. Additionally people would share passwords and NFHS would lose alot of money on rule book sales.

Re: NFHS Rules
|
My state is one that includes full NFHS membership with payment of our annual umpire fees. I've accessed the on-line rule and case books many times in the past.
One thing about accessing the rules- NFHS updated their website awhile ago and the links you have to go through to get to the rule books are not necessarily intuitive or clearly marked. I think that their website is poorly laid out in that respect. It took me a few minutes to sort through that, but once I did it's worked for me every time.
Just going by what viking111 posted above, my first question would be, "Did you log in to the site before trying to access the rule book?". I see that you said you "created an account", but you weren't specific about logging in first.
I just now pulled up the baseball rule book (2009 edition- 2010 isn't there yet) and it worked fine. The steps I took were:
- Go to the NFHS main page: http://www.nfhs.org
- Log in with "Username" and "Password". (Link to log-in is in upper righthand corner).
- Click "Publications Library" from the menu on left side of the page. (A message does come up about being a paid member- along with another link labeled "Publications Library". Click that link).
- Click the "Rules Information" folder.
- Click the "Baseball" folder from the "Subcategories".
- There is a link for both the rule and case book there. They both downloaded just fine for me!
