This Modern Era MLB switch-hitter CHOSE to bat right-handed for the last nine games of the season, even though he was facing both right and left handed pitchers.

Team out of contention and going for a statistic, like maybe X number of homers from each side? If so I would say Eddie Murray.

GLM was sitting in the 1st base box seats every game, so he batted right handed?

Good guess!
You're thinking in the right direction.
But not the answer.
And Duck.......
If true, he probably took 3 called strikes every at bat.

Re: Trivia teaser..

How about, he wanted to hit .300 from both sides, and was really close one way, so he batted the other way the rest of the year to preserve the dual .300?

Re: Trivia teaser..

That sounds good, but I would think it's more likely that he stopped hitting on one side to keep from dipping below 300.
I'll take Chipper Jones.

You guys are coming up with some "good" answers....but not pay-dirt yet.
Our subject batted .314 the year in question. His 4th year in the Majors. But finished up a 16 year pro career @ .271.

"Nephew"!!!
Switch-hitter, Garry Templeton...St. Louis Cardinals..1979.
Batted right handed last nine regular season games to set a record for a switch hitter....100 hits or more from both sides of the plate. Finished with 211 total for the year.
[He allready had his 100+ from the left side when he made the decision. Cardinals were out of the running for post-season play]
Thanks john and others.
