In 1999 Jason Sigmon (165lbs) became the first Bandys wrestler to compete in college on a wrestling scholarship. He was a Bandys state qualifier in 1997. In 1998 he was the west regional MOW and undefeated going into the state tournament. He wrestled with the flue at the state tournament and finished 5th. Jason only had three years of high school wrestling. He competed and started for UNC Pembroke in 1999 and 2000. He was the Carson-Newman/Ed South 3rd place winner in 2000. He was also the Pensacola Christian Invitational Champion in 2000.
Sean McIntosh (174/184lbs) Sean was a two-time hign school State Champion for Bandys. He lost one match his junior (47-1) year by DQ and was undefeated (56-0) as a senior. Sean was a Fargo National Cadet greco-roman All-American in 1997. In 1998 he was the FILA Cadet National Runner-up. In 2000 Sean was a USA Magazine High School All-American and Dave Shultz North Carolina's Senior of the Year Award winner in 2000. Sean was also the Charlotte Observer Wrestler of the Year in 2000.
Sean was a starter at Appalachian State University 2001-2005. He was a Southern Scuffle 5th place winner in 2005. He also was a two-time Southern Conference Runner-up. Sean Gratuated from ASU in 2005.
Eric Burns (149lbs) was also an Appalachian State starter. He was a high school state qualifier as a freshman, a State Runner-up as a sophomore (125lbs) and a two-time State Champion for Bandys his junior (130lbs) and senior (140lbs) seasons. Eric finished third at the Southern Conference two-times and was a Southern Conference Runner-up as a red shirt senior. Eric gratuated from ASU in 2006.
Daren Burns (197lbs) At Bandys Daren was a two-time high school State Champion. He lost one match as a junior (59-1) and was undefeated (34-0) as a senior. He placed third his sophomore year at Bandys. As a senior in 2003 Daren was a USA Wrestling Magazine Honorable Mention High School All-American. In April of 2003 he was the National Champion at the Ohio Tournament of Champions. In 2004 as a college freshman Daren won the Southern Conference Tournament and qualified for the NCAA Division I Nationals. Daren was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2004. In 2005 Daren again won the Southern Conference Championship and was one match from being a NCAA All-American. In the spring of 2005 Daren placed third at the Pan-American Games competing in freestyle. He won the Southern Conference Championship for the third time in 2006 and after the season had shoulder surgery. He was a red shirt in 2006, but on his first competition since surgery Daren was the 211lb University National Runner-up in freestyle. He will be a red shirt senior in 2008.
II Riggins ( 141/149lbs) II was a regionals runner-up at Bandys his senior year in 2003. He competed for Carson-Newman in 2004
Craig McIntosh (165/174lbs) Craig was a high school state champion at Bandys his freshman season. He tore his ACL at the regional as a sophomre. Craig was a state runner-up as a junior and a state 3rd place winner his senior year. He is a junior at UNC Greensboro for the 2008 season.
Jerry Stogner (141/149lbs) Jerry was a state qualifier as a freshman, a state 4th place winner as a sophomore and a state 6th place winner as a junior. His senior year at Bandys he was the 130lb State Champion. Jerry wrestled for UNC Pembroke in 2007.
Byron Sigmon (157lbs) Byron was Bandys most accomplished high school wrestler. He was a four-time high school Conference and Regional Champion. He was a 145lbs State Runner-up as a freshman and a 152lb three time high school State Champion. He lost one match his sophomore year (49-1), one match his junior year (50-1) and undefeated as a senior (67-0). Upon leaving high school Byron had won 115 consecutive high school matches. He was the NHSCA National Open Runner-up in 2003 and the 2004 and 2005 National Open National Champion. He was a double Fargo Cadet All-American in 2004 placing 8th in greco and being the National Runner-up in freestyle. He was a National Champion in 2004 at the Ohio Tournament of Champions. In 2005 Byron placed 4th at the NHSCA Junior Nationals. His senior year he was a USA Wrestling Magazine high school All-American, the Dave Shultz North Carolina Senior Wrestler of the Year Award winner. The Charlotte Observer Wrestler of the Year and the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) North Carolina Wrestler of the Year. Byron could not compete at the NHSCA National Open or at Fargo in 2006 due to dislocating his elbow in the spring of 2006.
Byron was cleared to start wrestling again last October 2006. He red shirted his freshman year at UNC Greensboro, but he compete in several open tournaments competing at 157lbs. He placed 4th at the West Virginia Open, was tournament runner-up at the Pemboke Classic, was Champion at the Davidson Open and runner-up at the Cumberland Open.
Markley Morrison (285lbs) Markley started wrestling his sophomore season at Bandys. By his junior year he was starting at 189lbs. As a senior Markley was 215lb Conference Champion, 189lb Regional Champion and Placed 4th in the State Tournament. Makley is now wrestling HWT at UNC Greensboro. Last year as a freshman Markley placed 3rd at the Cumberland Open.
William Gilleland (157lbs) William was a four-time high school Conference and Regional Champion. He was a 119lb state qualifier as a freshman, a 135lb State 5th Place winner as a sophomore, a 145lb State Runner-up as a junior and a undefeated (68-0) high school State Champion as a senior. He was a NHSCA National Open All-American in 2003 and a Ohio Tournament of Champions 4th Place winner in 2004. His junior year he placed 8th at the NHSCA Junior Nationals. As a senior William placed 6th at the NHSCA Senior Nationals. He also was a USA Wrestling Magazine Honorable Mention All-American as a senior.
William red shirted at NC State his freshman year(2007), but he competed in several open tournaments.
Patrick McIntosh (149/157lbs) Patrick was a high school State 4th Place winner as a freshman (130lbs), a State Runner-up as a sophomore (135lbs), a 140lb State Champion as a junior and a 145lb State Champion as a senior. In 2006 Patrick was a NHSCA All-American placing 5th at the Junior Nationals. Patrick is the youngest of four brothers. Oldest brother Geoff is a Bandys asst .coach 2004-present. Sean and Craig were Bandys wrestlers. Patrick will be a freshman at Lindenwood University in Missouri for the 2007-08 season.
