With three points already in the bag from their first League game of the season, Banchory were hopefull of doubling this with the visit of Hermes, but the Bridge of Don outfit were obviously up for the game right from the start and demolished an out of sorts Saints team. The visitors took only 2 minutes to take the lead whena through ball allowed McKay to expertly lob the advancing Greg Sim. Then froma corner a Hermes header came off the bar. A good penalty claim for Hermes was turned down as they continued to dominate and put Saints under extreme pressure. McKay was denied by Sim before he had another chance when straight through but fired low and wide. Saints first real move came when Shand set up Stainer, but his shot was blocked. But it was Hermes who increased their lead on the 26th minute when Sim appeared to be pushed in the back when attempting to catch a corner at the far post, with the ball landing up in the net. 10 minutes later disaster struck when Sim and Moir collided at the edge of the box allowing Chris Courage to score number three for Hermes. Banchory's Watson was booked for a challenge in midfield as Hermes threatened once again, andf then just on half time Courage forced Sim to save the day. Into the second half and full back Stuart Edgar was sacrificed to make way for trialist forward Leigh Tan-Stroud with Lewis Shand moving to his more familiar role of left back from his unacustomed right midfield. But Hermes continued to take the game to Banchory witht he No. 11 outstripping the defence for his low cross to be sent wide from close in. Saints made another change on 65 minutes, when Henderson came on for Moir and this seemed to settle the home side as they came into the game. Stainer should have scored when he was straight through on the Hermes goal, but the visiting keeper saved with his legs. Last season's top scorer Keith Horne was set up by a Barclay free kick but the forward shot wide from just outside the box. And then the striker set up McRae from a free kick but the midfileder was just off target with his header. Banchory had another two half chances before they fell further behind. Saints central defence was all at sea allowing Mckay to waltz past them and slot the ball past Sim for number four. Saints got a consolation when McRae was brought down inside the box and Horne scored with the penalty. But Hermes went up the park from the kick off to score their fifth, to leave Banchory players and supporters totally bemused with the performance. |
