BAKERSFIELD BOBBY SOX: Parents Info

You are responsible for getting your daughter to practice on time and picking her up on time. Remember that Managers have a family and should not have to wait for you to pick up your daughter. Also, Managers/Coaches are not babysitters! If you must leave a practice or game, let your Manager know prior to your leaving. This eases confusion. No child will ever be left alone at a practice or game. Either the Manager or the Chaperone will wait with the girls until everyone has been picked up. In order to prevent confusion, if you daughter is to be picked up by someone other than the parents, please let your Manager know ahead of time. If you have not picked up your daughter within 15 minutes following a practice or game, the Manager or Chaperone may end up taking your daughter home with them and you can pick your daughter up from their home. If you are going to be late or your daughter is going to miss practice and/or a game, PLEASE let your Manager know as soon as possible. The Board wishes for the parents as well as the girls to have as much fun as possible by having a positive attitude. We, as role models, need to conduct ourselves as mature adults. The girls are expected to value the basic fundamental of the game…SPORTSMANSHIP. As a parent you are also expected to portray sportsmanship. Remember, we are all here for the girls! We will not permit badgering of the players, Managers, Coaches or Umpires…NO EXCEPTIONS!! If a parent has a concern during a practice or game, wait until you can speak with the Manager and/or Coach privately so the concern can be addressed in a reasonable manner. Managers have a team to worry about and cannot deal with out of control parents during a game. Remember, you attitude is reflected on daughter and the team as a whole. This may be your daughter’s first year playing softball; she may be asked to play in the outfield. Your daughter is guaranteed to play at least two (2) innings per game. There may be up to fifteen (15) girls on a team, which makes it impossible for every girl to play the entire game, every game. Your daughter will not be asked to play where she is likely to get hurt and it is the discretion of the Manager as to where your daughter will play. Please remember that all Managers, Coaches and Chaperones are volunteers and are doing the best that they can. Appreciate them, thank them and support them! Parent involvement is the key to the success of Bakersfield Bobby Sox. Please have your daughter properly dressed for practice and games. She is required to wear comfortable clothing for practices (shorts, t-shirt/sweatshirt, ball cap, cleats) and her required uniform for games. Remember, NO metal cleats are allowed! Socks must be worn at all times and must cover the ankles. Sliding gear is strongly recommended for 8u and higher. You daughter must also have a glove. Any inappropriate attire at a practice or game may exclude your daughter from participating (at that practice or game). You will need to provide: 1. Black, elastic waist shorts 2. Softball cleats – NO METAL CLEATS 3. Glove – please make sure the glove is large enough to fit an 11 or 12 inch softball 4. 8u and higher – sliding is allowed and we recommend sliding shorts under the regular shorts along with a leg sliding pad. All equipment not mentioned above will be provided. Feel free to have your daughter bring her own bat(s) and/or helmet (with a facemask). Please mark all personal equipment with your daughter's name and phone number. Managers, Coaches, Chaperones and the Board of Directors are not responsible for misplaced items. Do not allow you daughter to wear any type of jewelry to a practice or game. No rings, watches, earrings, bracelets, barrettes, etc. (If a medical bracelet must be worn, please make sure that it is taped over prior to practice/game). It is recommended that long hair be pulled back out of your daughter’s eyes with a rubber band, scrunchie or ribbon. NO metal accessories! Remember, playing on an empty stomach can be as sickly to your daughter as playing on a full stomach…please make sure she eats prior to practices and games. Also, make sure that your daughter uses the restroom prior to practice and games. Most practice sites do not have restrooms! Remember, no ice chests/coolers are allowed on West High. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING OR DRIVING ON WEST HIGH PROPERTY! NO EXCEPTIONS! These are school rules and will be strictly enforced. The Bobby Sox Snack Bar will be open for all games. Our snack bar hosts a variety of treats and such i.e. hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, frito boats, sodas, gatorade, water, candy, etc., just to name a few. Not all fields have bleachers so we strongly encourage parents to bring lawn chairs to games. Please check out website: www.bakersfieldbobbysox.com on a regular basis (at least weekly) in order to stay informed and current with the league. Also in the packet are some informational handouts. Please take the time to read these handouts. If you have a questions or concerns, please feel free to speak with your Manager or a Board Member. Thank you for your continued support! Bakersfield Bobby Sox Fundraising

We would like to take the opportunity to thank you in advance for your support and dedication to Bobby Sox Softball. In order to participate in the District and National All-Star Tournaments, our league is required to participate in a Bobby Sox sanctioned fundraiser. Each girl is required to sell a minimum of one (1) box of candy. Each box contains fifty (50) candy bars that are to be sold at $1 each (total of $50). IF a parent chooses not to sell candy, they may “buy out” by submitting a check for $35 to their team Manager. This “buy out” is only available at the Meet the Manager & Coach Day (February 21, 2009). If you “buy out” you WILL NOT receive a box of candy, your commitment will be completed for the fundraiser with the “buy out”. If you do not choose to buyout on this day each girl must take a box of candy and sell all 50 candy bars. No candy will be allowed to be returned to their Manager.

**Incentive Plan**

We would like to encourage girls to try and sell more than one box of candy. Remember all of the money raised with the fundraiser stays here in our local league. To show our appreciation to the girls that go above and beyond, the Board of Directors has implemented the following incentive plan:

•       The top selling team in each division will receive a team pizza party
•       The top selling girl in each division will receive $100.00 (6 box minimum)

Again, we thank you for your support!
