Azzurri Attack archives

The Azzurri Attack was formed before the fall 2010 season. Using mainly players who had not played beyond YMCA or Club Azzurri's Academy, the Attack proved to be one of the Club's most successful teams in a long time.

The roster changed a couple times, but these players all played at some point: Maggey Canter, Aftyn Chapman, Gracie Foster, Lydia Freeberg, Joselyn Hallier, Lydia Kimble, Ashly Rios and Harlie Wilson.

Head coach: Alberto Magana
Assistant coaches: Brad Hallier, Stephanie Street
Team manager: Stacey Foster

A team is born - Attack rolls through Sedgwick County league

I'm not sure anyone could have predicted how the Attack would do in their debut season. How does a 7-1 mark sound, with dominant performances nearly every game? It was quite fun to watch!

First tournament, first title

The Attack experienced a tournament for the first time, and it was a rousing success. The 7-5 overtime championship game win against McPherson Strikers Red was, to this day, one of the most memorable games I've ever been a part of. The fans' sideline was packed end line to end line. The Attack led 1-0 at halftime and 3-0 with five minutes left. McPherson stormed back to send the game to overtime. The Attack then led 5-3 after the first overtime and 6-3 with a couple minutes left in the second overtime. McPherson closed to 6-5 with under a minute left, but a final goal sealed the title for the Attack.

Tournament results:

Group play
Attack 5, McPherson Strikers White 3
Attack 9, McPherson Strikers Red 7
Attack 10, Wichita Cheetahs 3

Attack 7, McPherson Strikers Red 5, OT

Battle of the sexes: Attack drops three in boys futsal tournament

The Attack decided to shake off the winter cobwebs by playing in a winter futsal tournament in South Hutchinson. The Attack was the only girls team to enter and just one of two U8 teams. The Attack battled but was beaten in all three games. Their heads were held high, however, especially after a well-played game to finish the tournament.

Group play:
Hays U9 8, Attack 3
Vaqueros 13, Attack 3
GC 09 13, Attack 8

Spring 2011 season summary

The Attack was placed in the 'A' Division after dominating the only U8 division in the fall. The Attack began an odd habit of playing well the first game of the day and not well the second game. As a result, an almost predictable 3-3-2 season happened, although after the first weekend, the Attack was 3-1-2.

Call the pizza man! Attack wins Papa John's Midwest Invitational

The Attack was invited to fill out an eight-team field at the EFC tournament in Wichita. That probably won't happen again as the Attack steamrolled their way to the championship. They were challenged by EFC Blue in the group championship game, but other than that two-goal win, the Attack won their other three games by a combined 29 goals.

Tournament results:

Group play
Attack 19, Wichita Cheetahs 04 2
Attack 9, Hays Thunder 3
Attack 7, EFC Blue 5

Attack 8, Wichita Cheetahs 2

Easy like Sunday morning - Attack rolls on Sunday for Mason Wedel title

Making it to tournament championship games has almost been a given for the Attack. But after a group-play loss to McPherson, the Attack had to win early Sunday just to qualify for the finals. An 8-3 win against the Shocks put the Attack in the final, and then they smacked McPherson 13-4. Bliss!

Tournament results:
