CARL THOMPSON – District 5 AZ - Baseball    azd5_uic@comcast.net

A Little Leaguer from age 6, Carl was born in Boston Massachusetts. “I started umpiring when I moved to Phoenix AZ in 1997. I loved the game of baseball but found my talents were better served officiating the game rather than playing.” He has worked several state tournaments and this will be his first Regional as a Host Umpire. Carl is the Assistant Food Service Director for Sunnyside Unified School District. Currently single, he lives near his family in Tucson. “My family is very supportive and enjoy helping out with Little League as well.” His favorite sport is, naturally, baseball. An avid collector of baseball cards, “I have a love for computers and all things geeky…” Anything else you’d like to share? “Without a quill pen there is not a whole lot more to say…”

BILL FRONZAGLIO – District 5 AZ - Upper Division Baseball   mrbillbigblue@ymail.com

“My umpiring career began like a lot of others – they needed an umpire so my Bambino’s (son Gabriel) team could play when he was 7. He turned 20 this year,” and Bill has yet to take off the mask! Bill was President and UIC of Flowing Wells/Continental Little League, and currently serves on the Arizona District 5 staff as the ADA of Junior Baseball. He has worked many post-season tournaments, including State Junior baseball. This is his second Regional as a Host Umpire. Bill’s favorite sport is football because, “since I started umpiring, it's hard to watch a baseball game and not pay attention to what the blues are doing instead of the players.” And his favorite player? “Ben Roethlisberger – what a drive!” Other hobbies include – what else – officiating youth sports. Bill is the General Manager of Bronlyn Technologies, Inc., a local manufacturing facility that makes medical and optical parts. “Mr. Bill” originally hails from Donora, PA, forty miles south of Pittsburgh. A father of three (Jada, Dominic and Gabriel) and grandfather of two (Ryan and Kaylene), he currently lives in Tucson with his wife Becky of 25 years. “I love her dearly and thank her often because she allows me to do this.” Anything else you’d like to share? “Watch out for those hugs!” No kidding!

SARA TURNER – District 5 AZ - Softball   WeBeTurner@aol.com

Sara began umpiring in 1995 while living in Colorado. “I was a coach for a couple of seasons, but I am NOT acoach. I’ve played all my life and wanted to stay in the game. Being an umpire allows me to do just that – to give back to the game that gave me so many wonderfulopportunities! I get to work with a great group of people and we have a lot of fun. Plus, I get the best seat in the house!” Sara is the Umpire-In-Chief of Softball for Arizona District 5 Little League in Tucson. She has worked numerous postseason tournaments including Major Baseball, Major Softball and Junior Baseball in Colorado. “I feel much honored to say that this will be my fifth Western Regional Junior Softball tournament – and my first as an actual selected Tournament Umpire.” She has always loved baseball and her favorite teams include the Arizona Diamondbacks and the, “California Angels – I don’t care what anybody calls them!” She loves being at The Game. “It’s pretty sad, really. Someone will get a great hit with runners on, and here I am watching the rotation of the umpires… Yup, just call me Blue!” Sara, an avid reader and cook, was born in Pasadena, California and has lived in Tucson since December, 2004. Her mom also lives in Tucson, and she has two brothers in Colorado. She works for a local mortgage lender.
