I will be sending that information as to who will run after I know who will be going and who is not.

JO MEET INFORMATION
Final Updates - There are some important items to discuss about the upcoming Junior Olympic Stae Championship being held June 16 &17 at Mesa Community College. No Friday set up. Gates open at 5:30am.  I will get there and try to secure our spots like at the last meet.  If you can get there to help me please do.  I recommend bringing tarps to keep any dust rain or winds outside of the tents.

1. Weather: If it rains we will compete. If it is sunny and hot we will compete. Unless there is an unsafe condition we will compete. If we get lightening we will have to stop the meet and wait until no lightening is present in the area. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE. After it is safe the meet will continue.  There is a set protocol we must follow from USATF and Mesa Community College. Please come prepared. Stay hydrated - kids, parents & spectators. Most of our medical emergencies in previous seasons have come from spectators.

2. There are areas flagged off. Please DO NOT walk across the flagged off areas for javelin, discus, and hammer. Discus will be out of the East ring due to safety reason.

3. Volunteers are always needed.  Please volunteer if available. There will be a sign up sheet at registration area with assignments.  PLEASE NOTE THAT CLERKING IS OUR PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY.  The more help there is the faster the meet can be over.

4. The meet starts at 7am so please be on time and ready to compete at 7am if you are one of the first competitors listed in a field event or running event. First call will be 6:30am. Teams and volunteers please be ready in your assigned area to get things going by 6:30am.

5. No parents area allowed on the field. All coaches should be in their coaches box with their credentials or off the field of competition. There are certain sections flagged off for safety. Please do not go across these sectors.

PARENT MEETING MINUTES

This next meet will the last one for 8U born in 2012 or later. It will be held on May 19th and 20th, 2019.

Clerking – I heard a lot of calls asking for next clerking shift to come down. This should not happen. Everyone is scheduled for 2 hours so it is not fair when you do not show up because it makes those parents that do show up work longer shifts. You are able to leave to watch your child compete and come back. Just let the ladies know you are going to watch. This allows other parents to go watch their child compete as well. We are a family and everyone must pitch in and do their share to help out. The more efficient the clerking table is the faster the meet will go. We have 2 more track meets so let’s finish off with a bang….. 13/14 and 8U parents will be scheduled for May 19th and 20th and 11/12 and 9/10 parents will be scheduled for June 16th and 17th. I will not to schedule you for both meets if you are across 2 or more age groups.

Practice – Guys it is time to start peaking so please try your absolute best not to miss practices. Time to get serious and it is not fair to relay members if you are not here when we need to pull you to practice as there are no set days we will do this. It is going to get hot and hotter and yes we will still practice. Others have survived in the past and your child will too as long as they are hydrated. We will move start time to later to help miss some of the heat when that time comes. We need everyone at every practice working hard for the next level.

Relays – Relays will always be the 4 fastest on A and the next 4 fastest on B and can be changed at any time during the season. Relays can even be changed right up until Nationals. This happens when we are seeing how an athlete is going to do in an individual event. If they are in the top 4 and have not been on the relay due to having individuals to run… we can decide that they would be best utilized on a relay and would replace someone with a slower time because we feel they would have a better opportunity to make the podium at Nationals which is the end game. With that being said, the 4x1s we have been running are pretty much in tac both A and B teams.

Shockwave Meet in Cali – So far looks like all 4x1 relays are confirmed as going. I also want to run our best 4x4s & 4x800s if possible out there as well to get good times. IF YOU HAVE NOT LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING YET PLEASE DO SO ASAP!!! I NEED TO GET A HOTEL SECURED. Please complete the survey that was emailed. If you can’t go and you want to send your kids please let me know. If you want to ride with someone and share gas let me know. If you want to share a room with someone let me know. Maybe it’s not a trip for the whole family. These are all ways to save money for Regionals and Nationals.

Regionals – Please respond to the survey for Regionals. I need to know ASAP so we know about the bus and hotel. Same thing for the Cali meet….. If you can’t go and you want to send your kids please let me know. If you want to ride the bus let me know. If you want to ride with someone and share gas let me know. If you want to share a room with someone let me know. Maybe it’s not a trip for the whole family. These are all ways to save money for Nationals.

DONATIONS – All donations are welcome. You can support a child travelling to Regionals and/or Nationals or you can support a relay travelling. The relays will for sure make the podium so your help to get them to All American status would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I could be of help or if you have suggestions. The more money we raise the more we can help our athletes travel.

PLEASE EMAIL ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.

UPDATE Pacific Coast Shockwave Meet in Norwalk, CA
Let’s take this show on the road….. We had some awesome performances this weekend. Lots of PRs and outstanding efforts but I think we need some more competition especially our relays.

I know a lot of you have asked about meets in California. Well we have decided to go to the Pacific Coast Shockwave meet at Cerritos College Falcon Field, Norwalk, CA on June 2nd and 3rd. We here they run a great meet.

Please note that this is on the parents and the club does not assist with this track meet. With that said we would need to collect $14 from each athlete to pay registration fees.

I and other parents can take your child with us if you cannot go. It will be a quick turnaround trip. I for one will be leaving on Friday night and returning after the meet on Sunday.

Anyone can go…. We need to see where we are nationally before Nationals and California is where we will see what we can really do.

We would especially like to run our best 4x1 and 4x4 relays…. Plus each athletes best individual events to see where we stand.

Please let me know if your child can run and if you would need a hotel room. If you don’t know if you are needed please ask and I will let you know. I will be sending out the relays I would love to see later this week.

?Please send questions and concerns. I can even look into a chartered bus it would be cheap to California. Let me know your thoughts ASAP by responding to this email.

CHECKED ON CHARTERED BUS... IF WE GET ENOUGH PEOPLE TO FILL A BUS, IT WOULD BE $60 ROUNDTRIP PER PERSON.  The bus would leave Chandler High School on Friday morning, June 1st and return directly after the track meet on Sunday, June 3rd... arriving at Chandler High around 5am on Monday.  I need responses.

Monday, April 16

Hi Guys,

If you want to see some elite high school runners compete, please come out.

Ages 11 and up to come volunteer at the track meet.  Please enter through the clerking area where the old tennis courts us to be.  YOU MUST WEAR YOUR CHEETAH T-SHIRT if you are volunteering.  If you DO NOT wear your Cheetah shirt and are just coming to hang out please come in through the regular gate, pay and sit in the stands.

PRACTICE THIS WEEK WILL BE MONDAY, TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. NO PRACTICE ON THURSDAY.

Phoenix Invitationals 2018

Phoenix Invitationals is held at Mesa Community College on Saturday and Sunday, April 14th and April 15th - Be at the track at 7am (some field events will start at 7:30.  Everyone needs to make every practice to prepare for this meet. This meet is mandatory, but if for some reason you cannot be at the meet please let me know ASAP!!!  Tents cannot go up until SATURDAY MORNING AT 6AM... not before.  However we need someone to be up there at like 4 OR 5 to secure us a place in line.  I will need a couple people not carrying tents to go secure our spot then the tent carriers can catch up to place the tents.

I will for sure be there early and may be able to get in early to secure our regular tent city location.  Not sure how hot it will be, but  if someone has a generator bring it.  If you have an air cooler bring it.  Lets make a comfortable location for our kiddos.

This is the biggest track meet of the year....... We will need EVERYONES participation for clerking at Phoenix Invitationals.  This is a 2-day track meet and will have LOTS of kids participating from other states as well as Arizona.  We need ALL PARENTS, friends' relatives, high schoolersetc to help us out.  If you know someone that needs community service hours (even court hours), please let me know ASAP..... Everyone will be signed up to work clerking. Please let me know of any additional people that may need community service hours so that I can schedule them in as well

This is a point scoring meet and athletes will be placed in events where we think they will help the team score points.  Your child may be required to do events they normally won't do.  Since this is a point scoring meet, we cannot have 10 kids in the 100 or 200 when only 1 or 2 may score or even make the finals.  Points are only scored for the top 6 finishers.  There will be athletes from all over competing at the Phoenix Invitationals.

We are asking that every night each athlete stretch, do crunches, wall sits, planks and pushups at home (See email about what to do at home).  All of this helps with their strength, form, and coordination which will increase performance and maximize their potential.

Monday, March 19
Your Input Is Needed - REGIONALS
REGIONALS will be held in Aurora, CO July 6th - 8th (Regular part of meet is on Saturday & Sunday). I have been looking at a Chartered Bus to Colorado for Regionals. The Bus would leave on Thursday night and return after the track meet on Sunday.

I need to know who would be interested. I did a guess of the location when getting an initial quote. The price per person would be approximately $95 round trip. That's no driving, no gas, no flight, no car rental.

A message from the Youth Chair - James Smith
This year has been very difficult to secure and retain locations for our growing youth track meets. Additionally there are some things that we will have to address going forward to ensure we do not having ongoing issues with the current sites we use. The following info will be updated on our website ASAP.

1. March 17th meet will be at Copper Canyon High School. After going back and forth for some time I was not able to get a site for Tucson this year. It is our goal to host a meet in Tucson each season. We will regroup for next year.

2. March 31st meet will be at South Mountain HS

3. There are no dogs / pets allowed on school property. This is a school policy that is at every school and we must adhere to this whether it is posted or not. It is in our contract agreement with the schools.

4. No smoking, cooking, or alcoholic drinking on school property. This includes the parking lot.

5. We will need 1 to 2 people from each club to help at the finish line at each meet. We will rotate so this should not be an issue. Most of the clubs have assignments, but we do have a few smaller clubs that do not have an assignment. I am looking for those clubs to step up to help at the meets.  We have clerking... but if anyone wants to help out at the finish line at track meets let me know.

James Smith,

What To Do At Home

As we get ready for PIs, please see below of things to do at home to get better.

THIS IS FOR EVERYONE - ALL AGE GROUPS

While watching TV or just sitting around at home, there are exercises you can do to get better and faster.

Please remember to start low and increase time and reps as strength increases.

Push-ups increase upper-body strength - particularly in the chests, the front of our shoulders and the back of the arms. Push-ups can also help with toning the abdomen and hip flexors if done properly.  Some of the form problems are due to strength and push ups help.  Arms and chest should be lowered to the floor for a challenge, hold before coming back up

Crunches increase abdominal strength - the abs play an important role in overall muscularity and strength. The abs help pull the trunk of the body toward the lower body and is involved in every exercise we do.  It is the center of our strength. Hands behind head, legs bent then rise up toward knees but do not come all the way up.  Again for challenge, hold in upward motion before lowering back down

One of the greatest benefits of stretching is that it increases the length of both your muscles and tendons. This leads to an increased range of movement, which means your limbs and joints can move further before an injury occurs, and stretching helps you move with ease, power and grace. Stretching can help to prevent an injury by promoting recovery, decreasing soreness and ensuring that your muscles and tendons are in good working order. The more conditioned your muscles and tendons are, the better they can handle the rigors of sports and exercise, and the less likely that they'll become injured. There are multiple stretches done at practice and those can be done at home.

Wall sits are used to strengthen and build endurance in the lower body and the trunk of the body (the core). Wall sits strengthen hamstrings, quadriceps, gluteal muscles, and abdominal muscles. Improved strength means improved form and better performance.  Back against the wall then slide down into a sitting position as if in a chair and hold for a count of 10 or more rest and repeat.  Remember to increase time and reps as you get stronger.

Planks involve contracting your muscles against stationary resistance and can help you get past strength-training plateaus and improve energy transference between your upper body and lower body. Plank exercises strengthen core muscles, which include the spine, hip, and abdominal muscles. Your core is your body's foundation. With a strong foundation the arms and legs can function from a stable base and can provide more powercausing you to run faster. A strong core will help your posture, agility and balance. Lie face down, lift your body up by putting your forearms on the ground, elbows directly under the shoulders. Then lift your lower body up so you are on your tiptoes as if you were going to do a pushup. Make sure your feet are shoulder width apart. Keep your body in a straight line from your shoulders to your knees to your ankles, and be careful not to let your knees or butt sinkStart with holding for 15 seconds and repeat 4-6 times. Challenge yourself by holdingyourself all the way up in a pushup position, with your arms extended and your hands directly under your shoulders. Keep your body in a straight line and hold.

Drink lots of Water EVERY day and Eat Right. Please try to cut back on sodas and candy.
Thanks and Have a Blessed Day

Practice Site
Hi Guys,

There have been water bottles and clothing left all over the track each night.  Facilities have started complaining.  Please help us police and make sure the kids are getting their stuff.

We like our site and it is up to all of us to keep it clean and clutter free.  The water bottles are the worst.

Coaches and parents.... if you see a water bottle on the ground please pick it up or have the nearest kid pick it up.  It's our track so let's keep it looking good.

Thank you for your help and cooperation.

IT'S OFFICIAL NAU Cancellation
As most of you have heard the Indoor Classic at Northern Arizona University was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with the school. We have been going to this meet for 26 years and I know we are disappointed.

I am pleased to announce we will host the Indoor Classic at Chandler High School on Saturday, February 17th. Same exact format and schedule just at Chandler High School. Please mark your calendars to attend.

What To Do At Home

HILL PRACTICE THIS SATURDAY
Let's do this!!!

Hill practice will be held at Freestone Park on Saturday, January 13th @ 7:45am. Come out for some preseason training to get ready for this 2018 Track Season.

LOCATION:
Freestone Park is located at 401 N Lindsay Rd, in Gilbert between Guadalupe and Elliot (turn in off Lindsay onto Juniper and the team will be immediately to your right by the playground.

Run Hills To Get Faster & Stronger - Running hills is a form of resistance training that helps build the muscles in your calves, quads, hamstrings and glutes. You'll also strengthen your hip flexors and Achilles tendons; build speed and strengthen leg muscles. You can also build and improve upper body strength because you are forced to drive your arms harder.

Please reference the "What To Do At Home" email. All ages can start doing these exercises.

Practice Change
There has been a change in the soccer scheduled....

Practice will be on the field today and tomorrow.  We will be on the field behind the swimming pool/tennis courts next to the basketball gym (Chandler Blvd & California). Although it is more convenient, please DO NOT part in the lot off Chandler Blvd. Please park in the lot in front of the pool/tennis courts. We will be here all of January while the track is being laid. You will be notified when we are back on the track.

Please remember to pick up water bottles and put them in the trash and make sure you have all your clothing, shoes and water containers. If we could get parents to help with policing the area for water bottles and clothing left behind after practice that would be great.

Remember.... Everyone should park in the lot in front of the pool. We DO NOT want anyone parking off Chandler Blvd. We need to know that all kids are being picked up. We do not want to see any kids going that way. We will call them back and have them go out with us. Even if you are at practice. It gets confusing seeing kids run that way and it is too dark to see who they are with.

Thanks for continued support and dedication.

Sincerely,

The Arizona Cheetahs Coaching Staff

Soreness
Some of the kids will muscle soreness, aches, tightness, heaviness, and slight pain.  Please note that if your kids are complaining about being sore this is normal.  Everyone is sore in the beginning of the season because they are working muscles that have not been worked.  Even our seasoned athletes and those that participate in other sports get sore in the beginning.  Drink plenty of water (drink more than you are drinking), stretch at home and ice.  You can take ibuprofen if necessary.  The soreness will go away as you get into shape.

Hi guys,

We have concessions at the 1st track meet on January 27, 2018 which will be held at Mountain Pointe High School.

We will need help starting at 7am on Saturday, January 27th.  If anyone can come help Coach Norine on Friday, please contact her directly at 480-330-5615 to see what she needs.  If you know of someone who needs community service hours, please send me their name ASAP so they can be scheduled.  Allparents with kids running will be scheduled for concessions but there will be an age group assigned to clerking.

Each family is required to donate 2 cases of Water and 1 case of Gatorade If you can do more please do.... you can bring extra water and Gatorade or Capri Suns, Soda, Candy, Chips, Cookies and other nonperishable items for the team to sale. Please start bringing your items to practice now.

The concessions are used as fundraisers to help athletes who cannot afford to pay their fees and/or travel.  If you have any connections for pizza, buns, hot dogs, links, hamburgers or any other items we can sell or can donate these items let us know.

We also have to make sure the stands & the track are clean so please do not leave without doing your share.  It will be important to clean throughout the track meet... I am assigning some dads to be responsible for clean up throughout the day and making sure everyone is cleaning after the track meet.  Please remember not to leave as it is the entire team'sresponsibility to stay and clean at the end of the meet.

Please note we are responsible for clean up because we have concessions.

Thanks and Have a Blessed Day

Welcome to the 2018 Track Season
Welcome to the Arizona Cheetahs Track Club!
Hello and Welcome,

Thank you for choosing the Arizona Cheetahs for the 2018 Track Season.  It was really good seeing all the old Cheetahs and meeting the new additions to the Cheetah family.  We will do our best to give your child what they need for success.  As most know practice is every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 unless you are advised otherwise.

I will be sending several informative emails this week.  Please read them all.

As some of you may have noticed, I have already started sending invoices for outstanding balances.  Each athlete should have at least $150 on the books.  I will continue sending invoices to each person for outstanding fees this week.

Please note that we need to have paperwork on every child that is practicing - Even if they are training only and even if you have not paid any fees.  PLEASE TURN IN PAPERWORK!!!

PLEASE BE AWARE THE NIGHTS WILL BE COLD AND ALL ATHLETES NEED TO DRESS WARM AND KEEP THEIR CLOTHING ON ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY START TO GET WARM.  As always please drink lots of water.

Also, make sure your child leaves with ALL the clothing, shoes and bags they came with.  Please please please make it a habit of asking them if they have their stuff when they get in the car.  We have already started collecting clothing from the clinic.

When leaving practice please also be sure to pick up water bottles, paper, etc. when leaving.
