The West End Diamondbacks Win in a Battle of the Pitchers!
It was a real "nail-biter," as the West End Diamondbacks remain undefeated, in what came down to a battle of the pitchers. That's right, the WE Dbacks extended their winning streak to 3, in Wednesday nights game against the Desert West Diamondbacks. Summer Monahan, led off the batting order and hit a double, to get the game started. After a couple of stolen bases and an overthrow by the other team, she was soon safe at home. The DW Dbacks pitcher struggled in the first inning, walking all other batters to end the inning at 6-0. Making her first appearance as a pitcher, Summer Monahan managed to log her first strikeout. Way to go Summer! The DW Dbacks still managed to put up 6 runs on the board to end the inning, all locked up at 6-6. The game got real interesting, as Desert West managed to make some plays. With a strikeout early in the inning, and a "fielders choice," off the bat of Senia Martinez, the DW Dbacks were looking good with 2 outs and no runs scored. The West End Diamondbacks, stayed focused and managed to score a run, before ending the inning on a nice play at home on stolen base attempt. With the score at 7-6, the pressure was on to hold Desert West. Making a pitching change, it was now up to Sydney Kamarata to keep the game in check. The DW Dbacks managed to start off the inning with 2 consecutive hits, moving a runner into scoring position. The third batter was walked, to load up the bases and put alot of pressure on the West End Dbacks. After a passed ball, Desert West managed to steal home to tie the game. With great poise and control, Sydney beared down to strikeout the next three batters, leaving two runners on base, with only one run scored. This girl can pitch!!! Starting the third and final inning it was all or nothing, with the game tied at 7 apiece. Now the battle of the pitchers was on! The pressure must have gotten to the Desert West pictcher, as the West End hitters were very selective and managed to find the bases loaded rather quickly. Soon 5 more runs were on the board with the bases loaded and Sydney Kamarata coming to the plate. She looked at a perfect strike, when her coach pleaded with her to swing at ANYTHING close! Then on a pitch way out of the strike zone, Sydney reached up and clocked the ball out over the right fielders head. This huge hit for a standup double, emptied the bases to end the inning. Only one RBI was allowed, as that brought the inning total to 6. With the score now, 13-7, the West End Diamondbacks knew what they had to do. Rise to the occasion and stop Desert West, to stay undefeated! With 3 walks and a few stolen bases, Desert West managed to put up a couple of quick runs. Pressure must be what Sydney enjoys, because in true championship fashion, that's when she turns it on! You better believe it, 3 of the next 4 batters when down on strikeouts!!! Another spectacular finish for the West End Diamondbacks, who reigned victorious 13-9, to remain undefeated. Great job ladies and congratulations on a win to be very proud of!!!!!
