AYSO Region 37: Parents: U.S. Wins Gold

U.S. Wins Gold

The U.S. Men's National team won their fifth Gold Cup on July 29 at Soldier's Field in Chicago, Ill., beating Panama 1-0. Brek Shea scored the game-winning goal in the 68th minute. AYSO alum, Alejandro Bedoya, set up the ball perfectly for Shea, who just had to tap it in.

AYSO alum and U.S. goalkeeper Nick Rimando made several saves to keep the Panama off the scoreboard. Eddie Johnson and Landon Donovan, both AYSO alumni, gave the Panamanian defense trouble. Donovan was involved in the game-winning play. Bedoya originally passed the ball to Donovan, but a misstep by Donovan set up Shea for the goal.

Donovan was one of three players named the tournament's Golden Boot with five goals. He was also named the Gold Cup's MVP.

It's great to see AYSO alumni doing so well in the sport, but AYSO alumni don't just become soccer players - they can grow up to be anything.

Sincerely,
