2007 FLAGMAG.COM "C" DIVISION NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (8 MAN ELIGIBLE)
 |
|
| TOURNAMENT WAS HELD IN LAS VEGAS, NV 2007
|
|
The San Diego Piranhas changed names to the Falcons, before giving Charged Up a try. Midway through the 2006 year, 1/2 the team retired due to having kids, focussing on individual careers, and just our bodies getting old.
But, December 2006 rolled around and the itch to play hit us hard. We sucked it up, and made the commitment to do ONE last Nationals. That move turned out to be the right decision as the team won the Flagmag.com 2007 "C" Division NATIONALS!!!!
We started off 0-2, losing to two good teams (the second team we faced the BW Outlaws from Spokane, WA won the "A" Division title). WE rebounded on Sunday to reel off 3 straight wins including the C National title!
The team isn't sure what our direction is but for now we are savoring the moment as NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!

2008 FLAGMAG.COM NATIONALS TEAM - 3RD PLACE FINISH IN "A" DIVISION
 |
|
| 2008 Nationals Team
|
The team travelled to Las Vegas and played in the Flagmag.com's 2008 Nationals tournament. Although the team did not win the Nationals like we did in 2007, we did enjoy some unexpected success.
The team blew away it's competition on Saturday by defeating Crown Town from Rancho Cucamonga (the 2006 Flagmag.com "B" Division Champions) 27 - 7, then blasted local Las Vegas team False Crack 34-14. By going 2-0, the team was placed in the A division bracket on Sunday. We drew the #1 seed Las Vegas No Limit and battled them all the way until they finally got a lucky tip ball for a TD in the final minute of the game. The defense held but the offense could not score and so the team lost 7-0 to the eventual A division champions. I'm sure No Limit was surprised that us old guys gave them such a tough game. But, props to them for making that play.
The Piranhas also played in the 4 man format. The team beat Taco Surf from Los Angeles and a team called the Raiders on Saturday. We made the Championship game on Sunday only to lose to the red hot and undefeated team Da Bullies (DBD) from Temecula, CA.
Overall, it was a great showing for the team. We only play once a year now in 8 man football and still showed we can ball up.
A personal thanks from management to the team for their hard work, time, and dedication. Next year, the team is planning to return to the MCFFU's tournament possibly doing 8 and 5 man formats.

2007 5 ON 5 - GOIN DEEP SAN DIEGO TOURNAMENT COMPETITIVE DIVISION CHAMPIONS
 |
|
OK, so recently we've went under the following team names: Lights Out, Falcons, Charged Up, SD Flash, and we once again went to a tournament in congnito as The Bolts. Real creative there huh, LOL?
Anyway, the team will first and foremost always be PIRANHAS AT HEART no matter what new team name we go under. The CORE guys have been together for the last 7 years and we know our strengths and weaknesses. WE don't claim to be the best, all we do is just go out there and compete and play hard, and hopefully at the end of the game we have earned the other team's respect. Most of our guys are 35 plus years old so playing now a days with everyone's tight work and family schedule is a privilege.
Enough ranting for now, let's talk some football news. The team played in a 1 day tournament in San Diego hosted by Goin Deep Flag Football league on May 19, 2007. We played in the B Division and surprisingly took FIRST PLACE.
Here is the tournament scores:
Game 1 Bolts (aka Piranhas) 35 Rajun Cajuns 6
Game 2 Bolts 25 Code Blue 20
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Bolts 13 Injured Reserve 7
It was a great tournament for us. We were never trailed in any of the games, in fact we scored on all three opening drives and never looked back. QB Ernie Caguioa and WR James Tear were on fire, and led the offensive charge. The defense was stellar led by DLmen John Bromley who dominated all centers that got in his way. WR/DB Rick also made huge contributions on both sides of the ball.
UPDATE:

UPDATE:
SUMMER 2007 RESULTS
The Piranhas finished the regular season 5-3 (2nd Place) and was the second seed for the playoffs. In the Final Four game, we squeeked by the Illegal Aliens by a TD.
The following week, the team lost in the Championship game to Orange Cush. Kudos to OC for their victory!
NOTE: The P-House played the title game without their #1 QB Ernie Caguioa who was on a vacation cruise celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary. Many players felt that if the old man was there, the outcome could've been different.
But, all in all, the team is pleased with it's accomplishments. In 2 seasons out at the CV league (FULL CONTACT), we've made 2 title games and finished 2nd place each time. Not bad for us old timers!
>>> The next league is scheduled to start in January 2008 <<<

SPRING 2007
CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
#2 SEED POZOLEROS 42
#4 SEED FLASH (AKA PIRANHAS) 19
The game was close with 10 minutes left in the game, until Pozoleros blew the game wide open. Us old guys did our best but the young stallions were just a better team. Their defense tightened up, our offense couldn't execute, their offense was a scoring machine, and our defense just ran out of gas. Much respect goes out to the "Cruz" brothers and their team mates who I feel will be a powerhouse team if they continue to stick together and grow. The talent is there, and their knowledge of the game is very impressive for such a young group.
As for my team mates, what a fantastic turn around! Can you imagine us being 1-5 at one point, and pretty out of playoff contention. But, we manage to reel off 4 straight wins, then beat the #1 seed Orange Crush in the playoffs, and along the way win the Goin Deep 5 on 5 San Diego tournament in basically 6 weeks time? Shows the character and heart of this team.
The Piranhas will be back on June 13th Wednesday looking to win it all in the Summer Season!

VISIT "PIRANHAS ALBUM" AND "HOUSE OF FAME" SECTION
The Piranhas organization has been in existence for over 15 years. Many familiar faces have played for the Phouse. Take a look at old team photos, and see who landed in our team Hall of Fame.
Guys such as Larry Scarsella (of Daygo Funhouse), Mike Bennett (of Team Xavix), and Dwain Bostic (of Daygo Funhouse) just to name a few are former team mates who all gone on to make an impact at the Elite level divisions on a regional and national level.
It was a pleasure and honor to have played along side some of San Diego's top notch flag football players. They'll always be a part of the Piranhas brother hood. P-House! You know!

PIRANHAS JERSEY HISTORY
(A) BLUE N GOLD
The very first OG P-House jersey. Back in the C division, we battle teams such as Sunshine Company, QRUSH (which is now Hit Em Up), Mission Armory, Plan B Free Agents, VC (which is now Gang Green/Carsforyou.com), and Storm.
(B) BABY BLUE N WHITE
This color combination put the Piranhas on the West Coast map, because we were the first team to sport the recognizable columbia blue colors.
(C) BLACK N BABY BLUE
The team wanted to look "hard" so we went with the black n baby blue color combo. We actually got called for more penalties when we went black. Kind of gave us the "Raider" mystique.
(D) BLACK N WHITE
Definitely the highest quality jersey we've ever had. Went this route when the team merged with FUN N GUN in 1999. This new team later became the FUNHOUSE.
(E) SLEEVELESS TEES
These sleeveless tees were perfect for our time spent in the 4 Man leagues (Axis & Fast Action Football).
(F) BABY BLUE W/BLACK NUMBERS
Our current jersey, and my personal favorite of all time. The #s all stitched in, very high quality jersey...basically looks and feels great!
