Practice Update 7/26

We had a good practice last night at Bethany.  We worked on full-court offensive break - passing and 2 on 1 offense.  Then we broke into guards/posts and did one-on-one offensive moves - jab step, post-ups, etc.  Finally we finished with full-court 3 v 3 and 4 v 4.

Most Hustle: Charlie Barrett

Best Passing: Pete Uhlenhop

Best Defense: Jack Nevin

Practice Update 7/22

All, our first Thursday outdoor practice session last week went very well, I thought.  We started out with some basic ball-handling drills and got warmed up and then went right into playing 4 v 4 and 3 v 3 half-court games.  I really like having them play 3 v 3 and 4 v 4 because I think with fewer bodies on the court the boys learn better about movement on offense.  It's harder to be stationary and "hide" on offense when there are only a couple of other guys on your team.  The guys also seemed to have a lot of fun (I always enjoyed 3 v 3 more than 5 v 5 myself - more touches)  I would like to continue these sessions every Thursday going forward.

Best Passing: Dennis Meaux

Practice Update 6/24

Last night's practice we worked on some fast break opportunities, 3 v 2 and 2 v 1.  Then we did some work against the press, 4 trying to break 5.  That went fairly well and we passed the ball well.  We then scrimmaged against the Wildfire and got an opportunity to apply the press in a game situation.

Finally, we welcomed a guest player at practice, Daniel Miller.  Daniel is a great player and a friend to many of the guys on the team.  He helped us fill out the practice roster and did a great job picking up the defense.

Also, since Ethan's birthday is Saturday and Max's is Monday (Happy 12th, Ethan and 11th, Max), we celebrated with some cupcakes afterwards.

Best Defense: Adam Zambie

Best Passing: Aarush Agarwal

Most Hustle: Dennis Meaux

Practice Update 5/24

Last night's practice at McNeil focused on playing against the man-to-man defense and 3 on 2 fast break.  We also talked about free throw shooting and asked the boys to practice free throw shooting at home away from practice.  As a team we shot under 40% during the Spring season and need to improve on that this Summer.

Best Defense: Jono Zeiner

Best Passing: Pete Uhlenhop

Most Hustle: Charlie Barrett

Practice Update 5/27

We had a nice practice and scrimmage against the 4th grade Lightning team last night.  We tried out some different lineups and tried some guys at some new positions, just to see what they could do.

Best Defense: Charlie Barrett

Best Passing: Dennis Meaux

Most Hustle: Max Arends

Tuesday, May 11
Practice Update 5/10

Last night's practice consisted of some basic ball-handling and shooting warm-ups followed by full-court scrimmage work.  The boys played about as hard as we have seen them all season.  The energy level was very high and Coach Arends and I were both very pleased with how well we passed the ball (at times anyway).

Best Defense: Stephen Rodriguez

Best Passing: Josh Duff

Most Hustle: Aarush Agarwal

Practice Update 4/27

On Tuesday we had a scrimmage against the 4th grade T&C All-Star team, the Lightning at Canyon Vista.  Our boys played very well and controlled the pace of the game well.  We learned that we need to do a better job of getting back into our defensive sets and be more patient on offense, but overall it was a good experience.

Best Defense: Dennis Meaux

Best Passing: Josh Duff

Most Hustle: Max Arends

Monday, April 26
Practice Update 4/26

Tonight's practice consisted of a drill to teach the concept of passing and setting a pick away from the ball.  Then we ran some full-court press drills and finished with an intra-squad scrimmage.  Tomorrow night we are going to play a scrimmage against the 4th grade all-star team.

Happy Birthday to Jack who turned 11 today!

Best Defense: Dennis Meaux

Best Passing: Jono Zeiner

Most Hustle:  Adam Zambie

Practice Update 4/8

Last night the Lobos participated in series of three scrimmages during our practice time at McNeil, two against two split squads from the Wildfire team and one against the Lake Travis Storm.  The team played great and we got in a lot of work on setting up the press, scoring off the press, breaking the press and trapping in the 3-2 half-court defense.  Player of the day awards go to:

Best Defense: Stephen Rodriguez and Aarush Agarwal

Best Passing: Jack Nevin

Most Hustle: Pete Uhlenhop

We will be at Rattan Creek Park Saturday morning at 8:00am to have a conditioning session. Please join us if you can.

Best Defense: Ethan Moeller
