AYBL STARTS OF WITH A BANG!
Auburndale Youth Basketball League started off with a bang today!
Check out this You Tube video of Opening Ceremonies compliments of David Shumate and Max Therapy and One Drop Sauces...........
Opening Ceremonies were held at Tracy McGrady Gymnasium at 9:00 AM followed by the JrNBA/JrWNBA Skills Challenge by SINGULAIR.
All teams participated in Jamboree Games at both Auburndale High School and Stambaugh Middle School. Each team played every team in their division at least once.
Auburndale Youth Basketball signs up boys and girls ages 5 - 15 for recreational basketball every October. A Selection Draft is held the first Saturday in November and the season starts the first Saturday in December! It's done this way every year so if you missed it this year, come back in October, 2008.
There are 250 kids on 29 teams in 8 divisions of play. Games are held on Saturdays, primarily with some Monday night play at Stambaugh Middle School and Auburndale High School.
The season runs through the middle of February with a Year-end Tournament and All Stars after that.

Mandatory Parents Alliance for Youth Sports Online Clinic
All parents must join the Parents Alliance for Youth Sports by taking the online PAYS Clinic. Many parents have told us that they learned a lot by taking this clinic. They told us that it really opens your eyes to what youth sports is really all about! So many times we try to live our childhood through our kids and we forget that they are kids and they just want to play and have a great time!
Ask your child if he/she had a good time at practices and games. Ask them what they learned instead of what the score was. You and them will both be happier if you focus on what they learn and how they execute what they have been taught rather than the score on the scoreboard.
We encourage you to think of the practice courts and gyms as your child's classrooms and their coaches as their teachers. Most of us would not dream of making a scene at school but sometimes we forget that at a sporting event. Sometimes we think it is ok to yell at a coach or an official when it actually makes your child and others around you uncomfortable and diminishes the positive experience that all should enjoy.
Parents, please bring your child to practices and games on time. The coaches are giving of their time to work with your kids so please help them to help your child. Your child is not going to learn the game of basketball on game day. Practice is where they will learn the basic fundamentals needed to have a good time playing on Saturdays!
Together we can make this league fun, instructional and educational while enjoying friendly competition. Please encourage kids on both teams while participating in Auburndale Youth Basketball's activities whether recreational or competitive. We ask you all to read the sign at the high school regarding behavior in the gym.
Lastly, please remember that the officials are human and they will make mistakes. They have nothing to gain by calling the game for the 'other team'. All of our officials have the kid's best interest at heart and truly care about them!
Please read and sign the Parent Code of Ethics Pledge and honor it throughout your youth sports experiences.
LET'S ALL REMEMBER THIS IS YOUTH SPORTS NOT THE NBA/WNBA!

Mandatory NYSCA Certification Online Clinic
All coaches in Auburndale Youuth Basketball must be certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. Please click on the logo above to go to the web site to take the online clinic. The fee is $25.
Over the years, numerous experienced coaches have told us that they gained tremendously by these clinics. The basketball sport specific video is remarkable and is worth the time to view even if you are already a member. The league will pay for all active coaches renewals.
New Head Coaches will not be able to practice until after attending this Certification Clinic.
Coaches, please remember that your main goal this year is to teach every child on your team fundamentals and to work together as a team. Please discourage the one man show type offense. Nobody wants to run up and down the court and never touch the basketball. Please remember that the focus of our recreational league is just that.....RECREATION! You, your players and their parents will have a much more positive experience if you accomplish this goal. Make it a personal mission to take each child and teach them to properly perform as many basic skills as possible in the short time you have to work with them.
Please communicate with your parents! You cannot ask young children to remember to tell their parents when your next practice is or what time to show up for the game. Your relationship with your parents and players is vital to your success as a coach.
Your team will develop as much as you teach them. These children are like sponges, absorbing the knowledge and ROLE MODEL BEHAVIOR that you portray to them. Always remember that!
Please discourage your players and parents from heckling the other team. Encourage them to encourage both teams!
Please sign, and submit to the league, the Coaches Code of Ethics Pledge and honor it throughout your youth sports experience.
