Friday, November 6 Emily Wilman named Star-Ledger Volleyball Athlete of the Week! High School Athlete of the Week - Week 7: Emily Wilman (girls volleyball), Union CatholicBy Mike Moretti/For The Star-LedgerNovember 05, 2009, 12:01AM Emiily Wilman of the Union Catholic girls volleyball team is The Star-Ledger Athlete of the Week. EMILY WILMAN, UNION CATHOLIC Senior outside hitter, 5-5 JUST THE STATS: For the second straight season, Wilman led Union Catholic to the Union County Tournament championship. She had 10 kills and five digs for the Scotch Plains school in the UCT final, a 2-0 victory over Cranford. For the season, Wilman has posted 206 kills, 58 digs and 45 aces. She was named First Team All-Non-Public in 2008. FAVORITE FOOD: ``Pizza. Just regular with cheese is fine." FAVORITE MOVIE: ``The Hangover." HANGING WITH FRIENDS: ``We like to go to the mall or go to the movies." FAVORITE MUSIC: ``I like everything except country. Lately, I'm listening to Brittney Spears and Taylor Swift." MOST INSPIRATIONAL: ``My parents, Mark and Anna. They encourage me in everything I do and helped me in volleyball by paying for all my camps. I started playing when I was 10 years old and my father brought me to his volleyball practice." COLLEGE CHOICE: ``Rutgers is on top right now." COLLEGE MAJOR: ``Physical therapy." IN 15 YEARS: ``I'd like to be working in that field, be married, have a couple kids, a nice car and a nice house, and, of course, a dog. I hope to still be playing volleyball, too." FAVORITE SUBJECT: ``Math. I've always liked it. It comes easy to me." FAVORITE PRO ATHLETE: Pro volleyball player Kerri Walsh. GOALS THIS SEASON: ``We've already got two, winning our conference and the county. The next one is to win the states." WHY VOLLEYBALL: ``I'm in love with the sport. I like the hitting and the serving. Those are the fun parts for me." ON UNION CATHOLIC COACH NANCY SAGGIO: ``I'm fortunate that I came here. She's an excellent coach who has really helped my all-around game. She has brought the best out in me." COACH'S COMMENTS: Nancy Saggio: ``She serves really well and is our best attacker. She's our go-to girl. This year, she's seeing the court better and has better placement on her shots. She's finding the holes |
