A second bid pkg went out and we received 11 responses which were reviewed for completeness and qualifications. Recreation met and reviewed the information and made a recommendation to the selectmen. It is hoped that ground will be breaking soon and grass will planted and growing before winter.
The engineer's color rendering of the new recreation area is show in the image above. The detailed .pdf rendering can be found in the handout attached to this posting (or in the Handouts section, under East Road).

Status Update - We are currently awaiting approval from the State on the site plan. The State has given approval on a new, relocated cut (entrance) to the area. The planning board and the conservation commission have been given plans to review.
Once the plan is final, the mock-up design (below) will be replaced with the actual engineering drawing.
Thank you Atkinson residents for the support on the recreation articles at the polls. We'll post updates on our progress as we have news on the East Road Recreational Area development.
The Atkinson Recreation Committee is anxious to begin work on the new recreation area on East Road. To support that effort, there are two warrants on the 2008 ballot which will withdraw funds from the Recreation Capital Reserve Fund (no impact to taxes) in order to begin this work.
The Recreation Committee is excited about this project because unlike most new recreation development undertakings, this project includes areas for all of our residents, young and old, to enjoy.
The new walking path, the bocce courts, and horseshoe pits are wonderful additions to the current recreational areas in town. The large grass surface, which will accommodate both large and small grass fields, as well as a multi-functional area for tents, pre-game warm-ups, and practices, will provide the town with a wonderful large, grassed area for basic recreational activities like frisbee and kite flying!
We hope you will support these warrants at the polls as we work to improve the recreational offerings in Atkinson.
