Atascadero Little League: What is Fall Ball?

Fall Ball is an informal autumn baseball program formed several years ago in Beach Cities. A few years ago, Beach Cities began inviting other communities to participate including Atascadero. Seeing an opportunity for interested kids to continue playing baseball during our nice-weather off-season, Atascadero Little League (ALL) has participated the past few years. Last year teams from Atascadero, Templeton and Arroyo Grande participated. We hope to have interest from other communities again this year.

Sometime in late September or early October, Atascadero Little League would like to again sign up kids for this Fall baseball program. There is both a Minor League Division and a Major League Division.  Here is some general information about what to expect if you sign up for Fall Ball:

1. We are looking for Fall Ball players that are interested and eligible to play in Atascadero’s Little League season next year. Therefore, league-age 8-11 year olds are appropriate potential Fall Ball players.
2. The program is informal. Each home team supplies their own umpire. A continuous batting order is used to ensure everyone gets playing/batting time.
3. Since many players are involved in another sport or activity during the Fall Ball season, practices are usually kept to a minimum (often 0-1 practice per week) to avoid conflicts.
4. Games are usually played on Sunday afternoons, from late September until the weekend before Thanksgiving, against teams from our general geographic area. Generally, approximately half of the games will be “away” games meaning our team will periodically travel to other local communities to play games.
5. Games are usually moderately competitive. The emphasis is on having fun and to continue developing skills by playing the game.
6. Although we would like to include as many kids as we can that are interested in playing, roster spots are dependent on the number of kids who sign up, the number of Coaches/Parents willing and able to volunteer time, the number of teams the league can accommodate, etc.
