ATAC Basketball league FAQ's

Advanced  Travel-AAU-Club Basketball League

What is the ATAC League?

A: The Advanced Travel AAU Club basketball league is a league that was put together to have 1 centralized organization handle all club ball teams in 1 location to play against each other. We provide a highly competitive basketball program for
boys and girls in 3rd through 8th grade.

Q: Who started ATAC?

A: A group of basketball coaches that were tired of going to highly expensive, unorganized tournaments where the gyms were sometimes closed, game times were sent out last minute, teams not showing up for the games, and games being to far away and staying in a gym all day. He realized that there was a need for a league for all good clubs to play at and have a organized website with standings and rosters.

Q:  What are the grade levels/divisions for players?

A:  The following levels of divisional play are available:

9U-14U boys and girls teams

Divisions- Bronze, Silver, Gold and Elite  

Q: When does the season start?

A: The league plays 3 seasons a year. The Fall, Winter and Spring. We take summer off in order to give ourselves and other club programs time to prepare for the national tournament events around the country.   

Q: When/where are the practices?

A: Your own coach from your club will have your clubs information. If you are coming into this league as a individual and not a team the Team Nikos teams practice on Tuesday and Thursday nights at San Juan Hills High School 

Q: How are teams formed?

A: Most teams are full club teams coming in from different areas in California, if you are a individual coming into the league you will be asked to go to the Team Nikos practice and you may be placed per your skill level. All players are not guaranteed a spot on a team and if not placed on a team a full refund will be granted.  

Q: What does the cost cover?

A: For full teams entering the league the cost covers the gym, scorekeeper and ref fees.  For individual players the cost covers the following: League Gear, Practice and Game Jerseys. Coaches fee, Gym fees, practice and training academy 2 times a week.

Q: When is registration?

A: Registration is always open for any club teams that would like to participate in our seasons.

Q: Why is enrollment limited for each division?

A: Maximum of 8 teams per division due to the fact that we want to keep the league highly competitive and we want it to be an exclusive league for the best teams in their age group only.

Q:  Can my child play up a division? Can they play on two teams?

A:  Yes. But they must play in different divisions. Players are not allowed to play on two different teams in the same division.

Q:  Can my child play down a division?

A:  Unless there is a safety issue involved, no player will be allowed to play down a division. If a player is caught playing in a lower age group, that team will be disqualified from the playoffs and end of season tournament.

Q: What is the included for the registration fee?

A: Each player's registration fee is used to pay costs for gym rental, uniforms, referees, insurance, scorekeepers, and trophies.  

Q: Where are the games played?

A: All games are played on Saturdays and Sundays (not likely) at San Juan Hills High School and Saddleback Valley Christian.

Q: Where are the teams from playing in the League?

A: We plan on getting teams from LOCAL, OC, IE, LA,SD and beyond. 

Q: How much of the game will my child play?

A: If you are on a team nikos team, Although we would love to have nice participation rules like NJB this is a highly competitive league and no one is garenteed playing time. The playing time on the court is earned by hard work on the practice court, being on time, and paying attention to detail.

Q: What is the Season End Tournament

A: The S.E.T is the Seasons Snd Tournament. All teams will enter but only 1 team will take home the championship trophy.

Q: Who coaches the teams?

A: Coaches of the individuals coming into the league will be coached by ALL former Division 1 and professional basketball players that have played the game and coached the game at a very high level. Other coached will be from their respected Club programs.  

Q: What if I want a refund?

A: No refunds. Only exception is if a player comes in as an individual but is not picked to play on the Team Nikos team.  

Q: Do you need scorekeepers or volunteers?

A: We have returning scorekeepers, who will get priority. However, we always need new help. Email steve@teamnikos if you are interested.
