Galaxy I Game 4
Galaxy I vs. BYC Dynamite
The game was played at Bethel Springs Elementary. Game time conditions were perfect. The Dynamite is a grudge match for an unknown reason to many of the Galaxy players and they were amped up for a great game. Galaxy players were hustling to every loose ball and putting pressure on Dynamite players throughout the game. Both teams had several scoring opportunities before Katie McGonnigal put Galaxy up 1-0. McGonnigal got things going when she took a pass from Victoria Anderson on the right side and used precision to squeeze the ball between the goalie and near post. In the first half Galaxy had an up-hill battle and this enabled the Dynamite players to get some opportunities. Galaxy players played solid defense and quickly got the ball wide and out of harms way. Leading the effort were Elizabeth Morgan, Julia Skwirut and Olivia Warren. These players stayed square and let the Dynamite players make a mistake and then calmly blasted the ball away. The full back efforts to get the ball wide were demonstrated by Mary Arena and Erica Williams. Galaxy passing out of their own end to a wide player helped them to transition quickly to offense. At the half, Galaxy was up 1-0. Now going downhill, Galaxy had the edge. Lindsy Haseltine passed the ball to Julia Burnell at mid field and Julia was off to the races. She dribbled around several defenders before scoring to enable Galaxy to go ahead 2-0. Great passing was also done by Olivia Lambert and Casey Purfield in the midfield area. Galaxy had another outstanding effort by both Goalies with several fantastic saves. Devon Linn and Amy Parker shared another shutout. Galaxy is lucky to have two goalies that they can count on each week. These two help to transition with their punting skills. Linn had several that on a bounce or two made it deep into the Dynamite territory. Next Galaxy league game will be against the Deep Run Fireballs.
