Miken Mafia / finishes their Pre-Conference season with another Championship!

In their last tournament before the Conference season starts later this month, Miken Mafia / pulled off another two scoop Championship by double dipping Texas Regulators in the 6th Annual North vs South Championship! Miken Mafia started the tournament off 3-0 before losing to the Regulators in the undefeated game. After a 19-6 flip flop victory over Sagnasty, ASP got a shot at redemption. After winning the first game fairly easily, 17-9, the second game started off much the same. Miken Mafia went in the bottom of the last inning with a seven run lead. However, Regulators made a great comeback to tie the game and send it into extra innings. After ASP scored three in the top of the inning, Regulators again matched them in the bottom. Although Miken Mafia / ASP only scored two while leaving the bases loaded in the top of the inning, it ended up being enough as Texas Regulators were only able to score one in the bottom of the inning.

All-Tournament Performers were CF Bobby Mitchell (.750, 21 RBIs), 2B Austin Peacock (.696, 15 RBIs), LF Zane Trammell (.696, 10 RBIs) and Pitcher Jason Trammell. Others worth noting: C Charles Key (.680) and EH Stuart Snell (18 RBIs).

The Championship marked the third for Miken Mafia / in their last four tournaments. Those victories come at a great time as the road gets exponentially tougher from here as they begin their Conference USSSA schedule against the toughest teams in the country. Their next three tournaments will span three different states - Florida, Kansas and back home to Texas.

Miken Mafia / does it the hard way BUT does it again!

Miken Mafia / went West this past weekend. They travelled to Midland, TX to play some of the best teams West TX has to offer in the annual See What You Got tournament. Miken Mafia / ASP was very impressive on Saturday - averaging 26 runs/game while going 3-0. However, they would start their Sunday off with a tough 19-22 loss. They would run-rule the next two teams they played to set up a rematch with the WTX Tees team that beat them. This time ASP was up to the challenge. The victory put them in the Championship versus the top-ranked C team in West Texas, 915-Sadistic. After winning the first game fairly easily, 19-9, ASP had a battle on their hands in the 'if' game. Miken Mafia jumped out to an early lead and held on, taking the Championship trophy back to North Texas with a 31-27 victory! Miken Mafia / finished the tournament 8-1! Top Performers for the tournament were P Jason Trammell, IF Chris Potts, IF Stuart Snell, OF Austin Peacock and IF Lyf Nimmo.

Miken Mafia/ takes Second Place in Snowball Classic!

Miken Mafia/ took Second Place this past weekend at the 29th Annual Snowball Classic in Denison, TX! For almost 30 years the Snowball, with its unlimited HR format, has been one of the most popular and competitive tournaments in Texas. This year there were 35 mens teams in attendance.

ASP got off to a hot start - putting up 28 runs in their first two innings to quickly put an end to their first game, 28-1. Their second game would prove much tougher, as they would need a walk-off hit by 1B Kelly Hartman to send the Witchita Reapers, which had several players from RFC out of the KS/MO area, to the losers bracket.

ASP would win their next two games by run-rule, including a 42-5 win over Evicted from OK, to set up a Kings Seat game with Big Apple. ASP used a 16 run 2nd inning to jump out to a lead they would never relinquish. With a 24-18 victory, they advanced to the Championship undefeated.

Although Club Chill/Wood Law would need to double dip ASP to win, they were loaded with enough talent to do it. They were led by Resmondo's Timmy Howard, Sonny's Kevin Ballard and LC Watson from R&M and included several other Conference players. Despite an 18 run 2nd inning by Wood Law, Miken Mafia/ would still hit the ball well enough to take a lead into the bottom of the final inning. However, Wood Law was able to get a walk-off HR to clinch the first game.

Despite starting the 'if' game off with a 16 run first inning, ASP would find themselves trailing by the end of the second inning. However, as they did the entire tournament, ASP kept fighting hard, kept hitting and took a lead into the bottom of the final inning. However, Wood Law would again get a walk-off HR to steal the game - this time a clutch two out shot by Dwayne Tockey.

The Tournament Gold Glove went to Miken Mafia/ OF Clay Smitherman (.828 OBP, 12 HRs, 19 RBIs). Other All Tournament Performers for Miken Mafia/ were 1B Kelly Hartman (.897, 12 HRs, 23 RBIs), OF Zane Trammell (.800, 9 HRs, 17 RBIs), SS Marcus Thornton (.800, 11 HRs, 29 RBIs) and C Charles Key (.793, 5 HRs, 11 RBIs).

Miken Mafia/ takes Second Place at Winter World!

Miken Mafia/ took Second Place this past weekend in NTX Winter Worlds at Big League Dreams in Mansfield, TX.

ASP went undefeated in two games on Saturday before dropping their first game on Sunday to MS 454/Worth from Jackson, MS. Wins against Sagnasty and Evicted set up a revenge game against MS 454 to get to the Championship. This time ASP won easily, 17-0, to face Who in the Championship.

Who was loaded with NTX talent - headlined by Conference A players LC Watson and Kevin Ballard. ASP used a 10 run 4th inning to take the lead and hold onto it for a 20-17 victory in the first game. However, they were not able to come up with a late inning rally in the 'if' game, dropping the deciding game, 16-18.

ASP CF Bobby Mitchell (.783 OBP) was the Tournament Defensive MVP. Other All-Tournament Performers for Miken Mafia/ were IF/OF Stuart Snell (.875, 7 HRs, 26 RBIs), 3B Brian Freeman (.722, 3 HRs, 12 RBIs) and C Charles Key (.680 OBP).
