Daniel Tomlin Ousted as Head Baseball Coach
It has been announced that Daniel Tomlin has resigned as the Head Baseball Coach of Alexandria Senior High.
Tomlin who assisted long-time winningest coach Don Boniol, received the nod to become head coach when Coach Boniol retired in 2004. However, Tomlin did not experience the success of his mentor having never gotten past the second round of the state play-offs. ASH Baseball only won the district outright twice in his 8-year tenure.
ASH Baseball won district 16 years and reached the semi-finals 9 years during Boniol's career having won back-to-back championships in 1988 and 1989, teams of which incidentally Daniel Tomlin was a key member.
A search is currently being conducted for a replacement.

ASH Trojans Baseball Gives Elite Performance to #1 LBCA ranked #2 Power-ranked St. Louis of Lake Charles
 | | | #26 Senior Slugger Erick Magee |
In a dramatic performance on Monday night at Legion Field in Lake Charles, LA, the 2012 version of ASH Baseball gave an elite performance to what the La. Baseball Coaches Assocation ranked as the #1 team in Class 4A, St. Louis Catholic.
Starting pitcher junior sensation Jacoby Bonton put on one of his most memorable performances in pitching a gem of a game allowing only 3-runs, 2-earned runs, striking out 4 and walking 4 in 5.2 innings of work. In relief last Thursday's winning pitcher Aaron Armstrong came in to close only giving up 1-run, 0-earned runs, striking out 2 and walking 2 in 2.0 innings of relief. Armstrong was credited with the loss.
The Trojans out-pitched, out-hit, and out-played the St. Louis private school in all facets of the game except one, scoring. The Trojans put together 10-hits and walked twice but could only generate 3 runs to show stranding a total of 9-baserunners on the way. A total of 7 of those runners were left in scoring position with 4 of those runners on 3rd base without scoring.
Senior right-fielder Erick Magee got the 1st hit of the game in the 1st inning but was stranded on first.
Leading off the 2nd inning, designated hitter Timothy Mathews singled to left field, sacrifice to 2nd by Kevin VanAssleberg, but stranded at 2nd.
The Trojans failed to get a hit in the 3rd inning, but had Jacob Dauzat reach 3rd after he walked, stole second, and reached 3rd on a passed ball. Dauzat was stranded at 3rd.
The Trojans went down 1-2-3 in the 4th inning.
The bats came alive in the 5th inning. Third baseman Aaron Armstrong walked. Shortstop Blake Painter hit a hard shot to left field for a single. Armstrong scored on a passed ball. Jacob Dauzat drove in Painter with a 2-out double. Magee singled but Dauzat was held up at 3rd base. Both rans stranded but scored 2-runs on 3-hits.
In the 6th inning DH Mathews led off again with a single to right field. VanAssleberg again sacrifice bunted him to 2nd. After being checked on a ground ball to 3rd by Lachney, Mathews advanced to 3rd on the ground-out. The run was stranded at 3rd with no score in the 6th.
Trailing 3-2 in the 7th, Dauzat doubled off the left center-field wall and Magee hit a RBI double to right center to knot the score at 3-3. Magee was stranded at 2nd to end the top of the 7th tied.
Armstrong held the St. Louis team scoreless in the 7th inning.
In the 8th inning VanAssleberg hit a 1-out double to left field to put the go ahead run in scoring position. Lachney singled to left field but once again the runner did not score and was held up on 3rd. With 1 out and 2 chances to score the 2 runs with base hit, the Trojans left the runners stranded ending the top of the 8th still tied 3-3.
Jacoby Bonton pitched one of the better games of his career allowing the first hit in the 2nd inning. St. Louis could not put anything together against the dominate lefty Trojan.
St. Louis got it's first run in the 4th inning on a lead-off walk, failed pick-off attempt that sent the runner to 3rd base. The runner scored on a ground-out to 2nd. Bonton did not give up a hit in the 4th.
After striking out the lead-off hitter in the bottom of the 5th inning, Bonton left a fastball up for the left-fielder who deposited one over his wall to knot the score 2-2 after 5. The homer was the only hit of the inning for St. Louis.
Bonton retired the 1st batter faced in the 6th but got into trouble after that with a walk and the runner advanced 2nd on a wild-pitch and 3rd on a stolen base. In a bang-bang play a sharp hit ball was hit to 1st base and VanAssleberg stung it home to Lachney who tagged the go-ahead run at home plate. Still not out of trouble, another walk was issued and a single to right field, and a hit batter loaded the bases. Reliever Aaron Armstrong came in and struck-out the batter to strand 3-St. Louis baserunners. St. Louis leading after six 3-2.
In the bottom of the 7th Armstrong gave up a lead-off single but quickly picked him off at first on great move. Armstrong retired the next batter, walked the next one, and induced a fly-out to retire the side. End of regulation tied 3-3.
After striking out the lead-off hitter in the 8th inning, a walk was issued. A routine fly-ball to left field was dropped that should have been the 2nd out of the inning. A sharp grounder to a diving Trace Carter at 3rd was fielded and Carter rushed to tag the base for a force-out in what should have been the 3rd out of the inning. The 8-hole hitter who had earlier homered hit a single through the SS/3rd gap to score the winning run. St. Louis wins 4-3 on the unearned run.
ASH Baseball played outstanding play-off baseball against a quality opponent. As always, the team who makes the least amount of errors, is usually the team who wins championships. ASH only made 2-errors but those 2 errors proved to be costly causing 2-unearned runs that made the difference. However, ASH had chances to score more runs stranding 9-baserunners that could have more than offset the errors. It proves that there's more the one way to win a baseball game and more than one way to lose one.
ASH Baseball will return all of their players except for Erick Magee. ASH Baseball will return with more experience and strength and should once again be a contender in 2013. The community and school is proud of this year's ASH Baseball team and is proud of their accomplishments!!

St. Louis Catholic gets past Alexandria, 4-3
Written by Rachel Whittaker Lake Charles American Press
LAKE CHARLES -- A pair of firsts of the season for St. Louis Catholic High propelled it over the top when it counted most Monday night.
Lenny Breda couldn't have picked a more opportune time to launch his first home run of the year, and third baseman Garrett Dufrene came in as a relief pitcher for his first win of the season, catapulting St. Louis to a 4-3, eight-inning victory against Alexandria Senior High in a regional baseball playoff game at Legion Field in Lake Charles.
Breda hit that solo shot to left field in the fifth inning, but that wasn't all, as the St. Louis left fielder smacked a base hit that drove in the winning run in the eighth inning for the Saints.
"My blood is pumping like you wouldn't believe right now," Breda said after the win. "(Alexandria) is such a great team, and for us to come out with a close victory like that, it means a lot to this program. This is the true definition of a playoff game."
Alexandria had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch that allowed Aaron Armstrong to score and an ensuing RBI double by Jacob Dauzat to drive in Blake Painter. But a pitching miscue by Jacoby Bonton -- hitting St. Louis pinch hitter Jack Boyer with a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth inning -- gave the lead back to the Saints.
But Alexandria would not be denied in regulation, as Dauzat nearly hit one out of the park on a double off the wall in left-center field in the top of the seventh.
Then Erick Magee drove him home with another double off St. Louis pitcher Garrett Harless to tie the score.
However, an error by left fielder Justin McQuillin, the hero of ASH's first-round playoff victory over Benton last Thursday, in the final inning proved costly. It allowed St. Louis catcher Chris Stout to reach base. Two batters later, Breda drove him in for the winning margin that carried St. Louis to the quarterfinals.
"I thought if Bonton was throwing strikes and was able to do that, he could do a good job with the left-handers they had in the lineup," said ASH coach Daniel Tomlin, whose team finished 17-14. "He did a great job and kept us in the ball game. Sometimes they say it's better to get run-ruled than to lose a game like that, but I'm not of that theory.
"I like our guys to compete and learn from that," he said. "It's not always going to go your way."

ASH Wins Bi-District with Walk-off in 7th inning
After giving up a single to the lead-off hitter and a 2-run homer to the 3-hole hitter, starting pitcher Aaron Armstrong settled in and only allowed 4 more hits for the remainder of the game and shutting out the #18 Benton Tigers for 6 innings allowing the Trojans to put together a come-back win.
ASH Baseball did not get its' first hit until the 3rd inning when catcher Chris Lachney hitting in the 8 hole lined a 1-out double to centerfield. He was stranded on 2nd with no score. The 4th inning was when the Trojans finally put something together. Centerfielder Jacob Dauzat reached base on a second-baseman error and scored from 1st when right-fielder and lone senior Erick Magee hit a deep right field double. Clean-up hitter Josh Breazeale was called on to sacrifice bunt to get Magee to 3rd. Designated hitter Timothy Mathews then hit a sharp single to centerfield to score Magee for the 2nd run of the inning. ASH had a chance to tack on some more runs when VanAssleberg hit a fielders choice getting Mathews out on 2nd. Pitcher Aaron Armstrong hit a centerfield single to get runners on 1st and 2nd. A pitcher's balk moved the runners to 2nd & 3rd and with 2-outs had 2 more Trojans in scoring position. The Trojans failed to make the Tigers pay stranding the 2 runners.
The Trojans did not get any hits in the 5th or 6th innings going 1-2-3 in both frames. With the score still tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th, VanAssleberg led off with his first hit of the game. Armstrong followed with an attempted sacrifice but wound up having a great at-bat and walked. Catcher Lachney got his 2nd hit of the game and singled to load the bases with no-outs. Lead-off Justin McQuillin got his 1st hit of the game at the right time and singled to right field to score the walk-off winning run. ASH advances to play the winner of #2 weed St. Louis and #31 seed Beau Chene.

#15 ASH Trojans to face #18 Benton Tigers
ASH Baseball is power-ranked at #15 and will host #18 Benton Tigers of Shreveport-Bossier area.
ASH Baseball finished the 2012 season on a winning streak winning 8 of the last 9 games of the season and finished 16-13 overall. ASH lost 5 games by 1 run with 3 games in extra innings. ASH easily could have finished at 21-8 had those 1-run games turned around. ASH shares the district championship with Tioga who finished with a identical district records of 8-2. Grant finshes 3rd in District 3-4A with a 6-4 record but finishes the season with a higher seed in the tournament. Grant(17-6) is power-ranked at #9, while Tioga(19-12) is #13, and ASH(16-13) #15.
District 3-4A proved to be one of the toughest districts in the state with all but one member qualifying for the playoffs. Leesville(18-10) is just one seed lower than ASH at #16 making 4 district teams getting first-round home games and in the Top 16 teams in the state. Peabody(15-10) at #29 also made the play-offs. Newcomer to district 4A Bolton Bears is the only team not qualifying for the play-offs only winning 2 games for the entire season.
Benton has an overall record of 17-12 and a district record of 7-3 sharing the runner-up with Northwood of Shreveport in District 1-4A. Minden won the district championship with a perfect district record of 10-0 and overall record of 23-5. Benton is power-ranked at #18 while co-runnerup Northwood is ranked #22.
Benton Tigers is a very well coached team and has played a competitve schedule defeating teams that has beaten ASH. Benton defeated Loyola, Captain Shreve, and Tioga. Benton has a very good program and is a tough opponent. ASH Baseball will have a good game for the first round.

TIME TO TURN UP THE HEAT!
Just a little bit extra can make a difference. IT'S TIME TO TURN UP THE HEAT!
In 2000, 2001, & 2002 ASH made it to the semi-finals of the State Tournament. In 2001 ASH made it to the finals but fell short! It's time to keep up the ASH winning tradition and competing on the state levels! We have the talent to get the job done.
In 2012, the ASH Trojans may be a little underestimated......?
Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done! But you have to BELIEVE......It's time to turn up the heat?!
It's time to do what you've never done before! Click on headline to watch!

How Good Can We Be?
How good can we be? How good can you be? HOW GOOD CAN ASH BASEBALL BE?
In the words of 2012 Masters Champion Bubba Watson, "That's the best part about history-we don't know what's going to happen. We don't know the future. We don't know anything." Sounding like a line out of Forest Gump, Watson was accidentally profound.
Watson didn't know he was good enough to win the Masters. If he did, he didn't know he could win the greatest most prestigious golf tournaments of all time played on the most difficult course ever made.
ASH Baseball with a record of 7-12, 1-2 on March 27, didn't know they could continue to play baseball and win 9 of the next 10 games to finish with a district championship, a championship that has eluded them since 2008. That's the great part about championships, you don't know the future, you don't know if you're going to win one or not.
As all knows, baseball is one of the most fickle games played in America. Founded in America, it is the most popular sport of all time for a reason. "You never know what you're gonna get." As in the case of high school play-offs, once the teams are seeded, you can throw the power-rankings out the window. Any baseball team in the bracket can beat anyone else in the bracket on any given day. ASH Baseball has had a tradition, a tradition of winning district championships, a tradition of vying for state championships. The Trojans have went to the semi-finals for 9 years, state runner-up for 2 years (1990, 2001), won the state championship 2 years back-to-back (1988, 1989).
Who's going to win the Class 4A baseball state championship in 2012? Nobody knows the future. It could be the #1 seed, or #3 seed, or the #15 seed..........

ASH Baseball Defeats Menard in Last Regular Season Game
ASH Baseball should boost its power ranking by defeating #12 power-ranked 2A Menard Eagles on Saturday.
Starting pitcher Jacoby Bonton pitched 5.1 innings and held the Eagles to only 3 runs on 4 hits. Bonton struck out 3 and walked 6 to get the win. Senior Erick Magee relieved Bonton and retired the next 2 batters to get out of the 6th inning. Magee gave up a hit, a fly-out, and a hit and could have gotten out of the 7th inning with no runs. However, the defense let him down on a failed double play ball and 2 errors to keep the Eagles alive. After 2 walks and 4 runs scored Magee struck-out the 3-hole hitter to secure the win 9-7.
The Trojans got on the board early and maintained the lead throughout the game. In the 1st inning McQuillin drew a walk and scored on a Magee RBI single. The Trojans plated 3 runs in the 2nd. Kevin VanAssleberg singled through the middle and stole second and was sacrificed to 3rd. VanAssleberg trotted in on a Aaron Armstrong opposite field single. Painter reached base on a fielders choice, Justin McQuillin drew his 2nd of 3 walks on the day, and Jacob Dauzat walked. Magee hit a 2RBI single to score Painter and McQuillin. Breazeale singled to load the bases but was left stranded to end the 3 run 2nd.
VanAssleberg got his 2nd hit of the day opening the 3rd inning with a single but was caught stealing. The Eagle pitcher Jay Manual retired the next 2 batters. The Trojans went down 1-2-3 in the 4th.
The Trojans offense came alive again and scored 3 runs in the 5th. Josh Breazeale reached base on a error. Breazeale advanced to 2nd on a hit and run single by Timothy Mathews. VanAssleberg reached base on a fielders choice getting Mathews out at 2nd but advancing Breazeale to 3rd. Chris Lachney was hit by pitch and Armstrong singled to right field to drive home Breazeale. Blake Painter drew a walk and McQuillin drew his 3rd walk to load the bases. The Trojans failed to penalize the Eagles leaving the bases loaded for the 2nd time in the game.
The Trojans went down 1-2-3 in the 6th. In the bizarre 7th is when the Trojans could have really done some damage. Opening with 3 consecutive singles by VanAssleberg, Lachney, and Armstrong. Painter reached base on a pitcher mishandled ball allowing VanAssleberg to score. McQuillin was hit by pitch to reach base for the 4th time in the game without a hit driving in Lachney to score the 2nd run of the inning. With the bases loaded and ready to extend the lead beyond reach, Brandon Brown (replacing Dauzat) hit a deep potential sacrifice fly to left field that should have scored the runner on 3rd. However, the Trojans misread the ball when Painter (2nd base) and pinch runner John Hessni (3rd base) both ran and were thrown out on a 7-4-5 bizarre triple-play to end the 2-run inning. This momentum changer gave the Eagles some new life scoring 4 runs in the 7th to close the gap. But reliever Erick Magee struck out the 3-hole hitter Cody Boswell to secure the win. Trojans win 9-7.

ASH Baseball Wins District 3-4A: First Time Since 2008
ASH Baseball did what it had to do to win District 3-4A for the first time since 2008. ASH Baseball honoring the only senior who stuck with the program, right-fielder Erick Magee. Magee started off the season with a bang hitting 3 homeruns in the opening tournament in DeRidder. Magee has since matched that with 3 more homeruns and several doubles throughout the season. Magee also supplied valuable relief pitching in key wins.
Congratulations and Good Luck Erick Magee, Senior 2012!
After starting what appeared to be a dismal season, ASH Baseball was at 7-12 on March 27 and immediately fell behind in district play 1-2 giving the Trojans a power-ranking of #30. ASH turned the season around winning the next 8 of 9 games. ASH is currently at 15-12, 8-2 district play, power-ranked #16, and has one baseball game to play when they plan to go to Menard on Saturday, April 21. A win over Menard could help the Trojans in the power-ranking and a loss could hurt. Sharing the district championship with Tioga, whom ASH was hoping for a little help from Leesville or Grant this week, Tioga with the wins over the higher ranked teams jumped 6 spots to leap ahead of ASH who was at #14 before the win over 2-win Bolton. Tioga also has a slate a games left to play and could boost or hurt their power-rankings with losses. It is likely that the higher power-ranked team in the end will get awarded the full point for district champion and the co-champ will get the 1/2 point.
ASH 13-runs and shuts out Bolton
After taking care of Peabody on Wednesday night, ASH turned around the next night and had a scoring frenzy against the Bolton Bears. In the first contest, Bolton kept it close at historic Bringhurst park before the Trojans blew it open and beat the Bears 14-7. This time ASH got on the board first in the first inning scoring 1 run when Jacob Dauzat reached base on a error and advanced to second on a failed pick off attempt. Three-hole hitter Erick Magee hit a RBI single to left field to score Dauzat.
ASH tacked on another run in the 2nd inning. Blake Painter reached base on a fielders choice and scored when Justin McQuillin hit a RBI double to score Painter.
After getting only 2 hits in the first 2 innings, ASH blew it open in the 3rd getting 6 hits and going through 16 batters. Magee in his first at-bat of the inning drew a walk, Josh Breazeale hit a sac-bunt but reached on a pitcher throwing error, Timothy Mathews hit a RBI infield single, Kevin VanAssleberg hit another infield single, Chris Lachney hit a RBI double, Armstrong hit a RBI infield single, Painter hit a sac-fly to center, McQuillin drew a walk. ASH scored 7 runs going through the order the first time and had 2 outs.
Going through the batting order the second time, Magee got hit by a pitch, Breazeale got hit in the head on the next pitch and had to leave the game, Mathews got his second hit of the inning and hit the first pitch up the middle, a 2-out 2-RBI single. VanAssleberg followed with a walk, Lachney reach on error, Armstrong got his second hit of the inning a RBI single to left field. Painter ended the 11-run 3rd inning on a centerfield fly-out.
The Bears changed pitchers in the 4th inning relieving starter Grant Debevec and retired all 3 Trojans faced.
Starting Trojan pitcher Trace Carter faced only 16 batters (1 over the minimum) in 5 innings only allowing 1 hit and no runs, striking out 4 and walking none on his complete game shut-out.

ASH Baseball Moves Closer to District Championship: Defeats Peabody 3-2
ASH kept its quest for a district title in place with a 3-2 win over Peabody Wednesday night. With a win over Bolton (2-20) Thursday night, ASH can claim at least a share of the district title something they have not done since 2008. ASH will be honoring its lone senior when they recognize Eric Magee for Senior Night.
ASH got on the board early against Peabody starting in the 2nd inning when Justin Mcquillin hit a RBI fielders choice to shortstop driving in Chris Lachney. ASH scored again in the 3rd when Josh Breazeale hit another RBI fielders choice to shortstop driving in Eric Magee. ASH scored its final run in the 4th when Mcquillin hit a RBI sacrifice fly to right field driving in Lachney. Those 3 runs were enough for Aaron Armstrong who threw a complete game giving up 2 runs on 7 hits.

In what was set up for a letdown game, the always powerful Eunice Bobcats came to Trojan field and shut-out the Trojans 10-0 in a 5-inning game.
After the emotional highs of defeating the two front-runners in district on Thursday and Friday, the fatigued Trojans with senior prom night a few hours away, did not bring their "A" game. Bobcat pitching only gave up 1-hit on the day when Blake Painter hit a 2-bagger wall-banger to centerfield in the 3rd inning. The Trojans only had 5 strike-outs but all other hit balls seemed to find the Eunice gloves.
After the successful week of gaining a tie for first place, leapfrogging several steps in the all-important power-rankings, and vying for the first district championship since 2008, the Trojan baseball team had a 2-hour intensive running and practice immediately following the Eunice game.

ASH Moves Ahead of Grant with Win: Tied with Tioga for 1st Place
In an exciting and dramatic game on Friday night, the ASH Trojans did what they had to do to defeat the Grant Cougars to move ahead in a dead heat with rival Tioga Indians for First Place in District. ASH Baseball defeated Grant 11-9 in what first appeared to be a runaway for the Trojans, but the Cougars put together a big comeback inning to close the gap. The Trojans were in control for the entire game but could have let it slip away if it weren't for clutch plays and pitching. ASH moves to 6-2 in district tied with Tioga 6-2. Grant currently power-ranked #4 sees their record go to 5-3 and moves into 3rd place.
After a thrilling win for the Trojans against Tioga on Thursday, the Trojans confidence were rebuilt and showed on the field as the Trojans quickly jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning. After a Jacob Dauzat walk, senior power-hitter Erick Magee hit a RBI double to score the first run of the game. Starting pitcher Trace Carter retired the all 3 batters faced in the bottom of one.
The Trojans tacked two more runs on in the 2nd when 3rd baseman Aaron Armstrong singled and advanced to 2nd on a right fielder misplayed ball. Catcher Chris Lachney drew a full-count walk and one-hole hitter Justin McQuillin hit a hard 2RBI double to the right centerfield gap. McQuillin ran starting pitcher Jesse Stallings from the mound after only 1.2 inning of work. Stallings had been effective in the first meeting but the Trojans made quick work of him tonight. Relief left-handed pitcher Danza hit his first batter (Dauzat) but retired Erick Magee to get out of the 2 run inning.
Carter again held the Cougars scoreless giving up 1 single but getting the double play to get of the inning only facing 3 batters.
In the third, the Trojans got the second batter on base when DH Timothy Mathews drew a walk and was sacrificed to second on a Josh Breazeale bunt. Breazeale reached base on a pitcher throwing error and the Trojans had two on with one out. Armstrong made good contact with the ball but hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning with no score.
After only facing 6 batters in the first 2 innings, the Cougar's luck turned around. Carter gave up 3 runs with all 3 preventable. The first hit was a good shot by pitcher Danza hit straight up the middle. The second hit was an attempted sacrifice bunt that was not gotten to quick enough and ruled a hit. Set up for the double play, the 3rd batter of the inning hit directly back to the pitcher but a throwing error allowed the Cougar to also reach base and a run to score. Carter struck-out the #1 hitter and again gave up a RBI dribbler to right side that was not gotten to in time for the out ruled a hit. The 3-hole hitter hit a sacrifice fly to score the 3rd run of the inning before inducing a fly-out retiring 4-hole hitter Jesse Stallings for the 3rd out.
The Trojans didn't let that inning phase them getting those 3 runs back + 1. Lachney singled to centerfield and wound up on 3rd after the centerfielder let the ball roll through his legs and roll to the fence. Nine-hole hitter Blake Painter reached base on a 5-pitch walk and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball as Lachney scored. Painter advance to 3rd on a wild-pitch and McQuillin hit a RBI double to left field. With no outs, Jacob Dauzat sacrificed bunted McQuillin to 3rd. Magee drew a walk and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch as McQuillin scored the 3rd run of the inning. Kevin VanAssleberg flied out to left field before Mathews hit a 2-out RBI single to score Magee. Mathews advanced to second on the throw home. Breazeale grounded out to 2nd to end the inning with the Trojans scoring 4 runs to extend the lead to four, 7-3. Carter faced 4 Cougar batters in the 4th inning giving 1 hit and no runs.
The scoring continued in the 5th for the Trojans tacking on 3 more runs. Armstrong got his 2nd hit of the game when he singled to right field. Lachney followed with a RBI triple on a hard hit liner down the right field line that went to the far corner of the Cougar field. Painter drew his 2nd walk of the game and advanced to 2nd when McQuillin hit a RBI single scoring Lachney. Painter then advanced to 3rd on a pitcher error and McQuillin stole second on the next pitch. Dauzat hit a sacrifice-fly scoring Painter. Magee drew his 2nd consecutive walk and reached 2nd on a Mathews single to deep left field that should have scored McQuillin but he was held up at third. The Cougars induced a ground-out to the next Trojan and left the bases loaded with no further score for the inning after adding 3 runs.
Going into the bottom of the 5th inning with the Trojans with a 10-3 lead, the Cougars luck was about to turn around. After inducing a fly-out to right field, Cougar lead-off hitter drew a walk after fouling off 5 strikes. The 2-hole hitter reached base on a Trojan error not helping the Trojan pitcher. Cougars followed with an RBI double and a 2RBI double that drove the starting Trojan pitcher from the mound. Reliever Erick Magee then gave up a homerun to his first batter faced before retiring the next hitters. Cougars reboud with 5 runs in the inning to close the gap 10-8.
The Trojans continued the fight though. Sixth inning Armstrong singled to centerfield, advanced to 2nd on a wild-pitch, and was driven in by a Lachney RBI double (his 3rd hit of the game). With Lachney perched to score, the Cougar struck out the next 3 Trojans to end the inning only giving up 1 run. Bottom of the 6th Magee induced a fly-out to 2nd before giving up a single and a walk. Jr. lefty Jacoby Bonton relieved Magee to retire the final two Cougars with a strike-out and ground-out.
Cougar pitching retired all 3 Trojans in the top of the 7th. The Cougars didn't go down without a fight (and a little Trojan help). Clean-up hitter Stallings reached base on an error for the first batter faced by Bonton. Bonton then gave up a single to left-field. After inducing a ground-out, Bonton issued 2 consecutive walks to give the Cougars 1 run. But Bonton didn't lay down striking out the #1 hole hitter to end the game. ASH WINS 11-9 to get into a tie for first place with Tioga at 6-2 district record.
ASH will face Peabody and Bolton next week while Tioga faces Leesville and Grant. ASH faces non-district opponent Eunice Saturday in its' 3rd consecutive game in as many days.

ASH Gets Win over Tioga: Moves into tie with Indians and Grant Cougars for FIRST PLACE
ASH Baseball on another beautiful cool spring evening got its' first win over district rival Tioga since 2008.
Starting pitcher Aaron Armstrong pitched a complete game allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits. He struck out 6 and only walked 1 batter. Armstrong also contributed at the plate hitting 2-3, RBI, 2B, and a run scored.
The Trojans out hit the Indians with 8 to 5. Three Trojans got multiple hits and three Trojans got doubles. Pitcher Aaron Armstrong, second-baseman Josh Breazeale, and left-fielder Justin McQuillin all got 2 hits apiece. Armstrong, designated-hitter Timothy Mathews, and lead-off Justin McQuillin hit doubles tonight.
Armstrong retired the first 9-10 batters faced in the first 3 innings. In the 4th, Indian Lance Nolan led the inning off with a single to left field, followed by an RBI triple by pitcher Joe Robbins to score their 1st run of the game. Third-baseman Adam Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to score Robbins for the 2nd run of the inning. Armstrong held them scoreless for the 5th inning but the Indians managed one more run in the 6th when pitcher Joe Robbins led off the inning with a double to left field, moved to 3rd on a wild-pitch, and scored on an overthrow to 3rd base. Armstrong retired all 3 batters faced in the top of the 7th.
The Trojans did not hit or score in the first inning but scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead. Josh Breazeale hit a single to right centerfield, Armstrong hit a RBI double, and Justin McQuillin hit a RBI double. ASH leads 2-0 at the end of 2.
ASH squeezed 1 more run in the 3rd. DH Timothy Mathews hit a 2-out double to left field followed by a RBI single to right field by Breazeale. ASH leads 3-0 at the end of 3.
ASH did not score again and held a 3-2 lead until Tioga scored the tying run in the 6th. At the end of 5, score tied at 3-3. After holding the Indians in the 7th, lead-off hitter McQuillin singled to left field. Jacob Dauzat attempted a sacrifice bunt but leaped the first baseman to get on 1st for a hit. With no outs, 3 & 4 hole hitters Erick Magee and Kevin VanAssleberg could not make contact with Robbins' curve balls. With 2-outs, DH Mathews hit a sharp grounder to shortstop and reached base on a throwing error allowing the winning run (McQuillin) to score. ASH WINS 4-3.
Due to the loss by Grant tonight against Leesville, there is currently a 3-way tie for 1st place. Both Grant and ASH sit at 5-2 while Tioga sits at 6-2. With a win tomorrow night at Grant, ASH & Tioga would be in a tie for first place with records of 6-2 and Grant would fall to 3rd place with a record of 5-3. (Technically Tioga is a half-game ahead with a 6-2 record.)

ASH Baseball Has Important 3 days Ahead
The ASH Trojans have moved up the power rankings due to a 4-game winning streak and are currently sitting at #22. However, the next 3 days beginning today will determine the seeding and placement of ASH Baseball in the playoffs.
After failing to win district since 2008, ASH has been a solid district runner-up during the last 3 years. However, with the above average pitching staff at Grant and the consistent play of Tioga, ASH is nowfighting for a place in district. As of present, ASH Baseball sits at 4-2 while Grant is leading with 5-1 record and Tioga is at 6-1. ASH Baseball could play themselves into a district championship with back to back wins against Tioga and Grant.
ASH will face 6-1 Tioga today at Trojan Field and follow-up with a visit to 5-1 Grant on Friday for rescheduled game from Tuesday. With 2 wins over these two front-runners, ASH could be sitting in good position to win the district outright and boost their power-rankings significantly. With losses to both, ASH will likely finish in 3rd place and drop in the power-rankings.
ASH also is scheduled to host 3-A powerhouse Eunice on Saturday. Eunice is currently power-ranked #10 in 3A and a win over them could boost the power-ranking. ASH going 3-0 in the next 3 days could be a positive turnaround from a dismal start in district. Let's come out and support the team and root the guys to victory!

Pitching Shuts Down Leesville: Magee Gets 6th Homer
Trace Carter started the game and pitched 3 solid innings. Carter did not give up any runs until the 3rd inning when the #2 batter of the inning got on base with an error. Carter gave up his first hits of the game in the 3rd with 2 singles and a double following the error to allow 3 runs to score.
ASH jumped on the board quickly but could only score 1 run in the first stranding 2 baserunners. Kevin VanAssleberg singled to score Jacob Dauzat who had singled and was moved around by a Magee single.
Jacoby Bonton came in and literally shut-down the Wampus Cats. Bonton pitched 4 innings of ball giving up no hits, no runs, and struck out 9. The Trojans were not out of the woods scoring 1 run in the 3rd to close the gap 3-2 at the end of 3 innings of play. Erick Magee reached base on an error and scored when Josh Breazeale hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
ASH had 3 baserunners with 1 out in the 4th inning but failed to score. The difference maker in the game was when with 1-out, Justin McQuillin singled, Dauzat struck-out for the 2nd out, and Erick Magee hit a two-out 2-run homer over right-center field to push the Trojans ahead 4-3.
The drama was not over. The Wampus Cats scratching and clawing started the 7th with a strike-out, a walk, a fly-out, and a hit-batter placing the go-ahead run on first base and tying run on 2nd. Jacoby Bonton stepped it up and struck-out the 3-holer Honeycutt going the full count for the win to end the game.
ASH will travel to Grant on Tuesday (who was defeated by Peabody tonight for its' first district loss) and will host Tioga next Thursday at Trojan Field.

ASH Starts Week with District Win: Moves 5 spots to #25 in PR
ASH Baseball winning 2 games last week wins the first of only two games for this week going into Easter weekend.
ASH faced the Bolton Bears in nostalgic Bringhurst Park on a cool night and came out with a win to move to 3-2 in district and move closer to .500 overall at 10-12. Starter Josh Breazeale who hasn't seen the mound since 3/22 started strong. Breazeale held the Bears hitless until the 3rd inning. After striking off the lead-off hitter in the 9 hole Guillot, he gave up an infield single, a walk, and a 3-run homer to Bears shortstop and Trojan Conner Debevic cousin Grant Debevic. Breazeale struck out the next batter and would have gotten out of the inning with 3 runs. Unfortunately the 5-hole hitter reached base on an error to keep the inning going and Breazeale allowed that error run to score after giving up a walk, hit batter, and a single. He struck out the next hitter to get of the 4-run 3rd inning.
The Trojans put 1-run on the board in the 2nd inning and notched 4 more runs in the 3rd to hold a 5-4 lead after 3 innings of play. Second inning: Trace Carter singled to left center field and scored later on a wild-pitch. In the 3rd inning, the Trojans offense went to work scoring 4 runs. Conner Debevic led off reaching base on an error by second baseman. Josh Breazeale reached first on a fielder's choice and Debevic out at 2nd. Timothy Mathews singled and Trace Carter hit a 2-RBI double to left field to score Breazeale and Mathews scored from 1st base. Blake Painter drew a walk reached 2nd on passed ball and scored from a Justin McQuillin single.
The Trojans went scoreless in the 4th but the Bears took the lead 7-5 scoring 3 more runs. Bear lead-off Hall hit another infield single before Breazeale struck-out the 2-hole hitter. Grant Debevic who homered his last at bat got handled carefully and drew a walk. Grant's brother Jack Debevic hitting cleanup reached base on an error that could have been doubled up to get out of the inning scoreless. One run scored on the error play. The next Bear hit a 2-RBI single to get a total of 3 runs for the inning to take the lead. Erick Magee relieved Breazeale after the extended inning to strike out the next batter to get out of the inning.
Magee subsequently struck out 4 more batters only giving up 1 hit with 2 walks to keep the Bears scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Trojans offense however was not done. In the 5th, Trace Carter led off with a walk, Blake Painter reached on an error, Justin McQuillin hit a RBI single to left field, Jacob Dauzat reached base on a bunt and throwing error, Erick Magee hit a RBI double, Kevin VanAssleberg doubled to left field, Conner Debevic, singled, and Mathews got an RBI on a groundout to 2nd. Six runs scored in the 5th to take the lead for good after 5 innings 11-7.
ASH Baseball went down 1-2-3 in the 6th inning. ASH opened the 7th inning with a Magee single, VanAssleberg bunt single, Debevic bunt single, Tyler Morrow RBI single, Mathews RBI groundout to 2nd to score 3 more runs.
ASH will face the # 15 ranked Leesville Wampus Cats on Thursday at Trojan Field.

ASH Gets 2nd Win of the Week-Shuts Out Jena 3-0
Sophomore starter Aaron Armstrong came on and pitched a complete game shut-out to lead the Trojans to a 3-0 victory. Armstrong held the Prom-minded Giants to only 4 hits on the day but they could not manage to score. Armstrong only gave up 1 walk and struck out 7. The Trojans were not any better at the plate only getting 4 hits on the day from only 4 players. But timely hitting and a little help with a walk helped the Trojans get enough offense to get the win.

Baseball Mental Game Tips
Stop Worrying and Play the Game
January 13, 2011 By Patrick Cohn
Many baseball players don’t want to let teammates, parents or coaches down, and this causes them to worry too much about what others think about their game. For example, do you worry too much about what your coach thinks about your batting technique or about performing well to gain respect from teammates. In his rookie season LA Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw had a difficult time finishing games after giving up a couple big hits because he felt that he was letting his team down. “I didn’t give our team any kind of chance. It’s just not a good feeling to let your teammates down, to let everybody down,” said Kershaw after an 11-6 loss to the Brewers.
Kershaw felt that because he is the pitcher that the team depended on him to win. This caused his to start worrying what his coaches, teammates and the fans were thinking about his performance rather than focusing on his performance. Worrying about what others are thinking or what will happen if you let down your team will not help you perform to your potential. Now with three seasons under his belt Kershaw is able to recognize the mental barrier he faced in his rookie year, “It was kind of a snowball effect once I started to make assumptions about what others were thinking I took my head out of the game,” said Kershaw.
When you make assumptions about what others might be thinking about your game, you engage in “mind reading.” You don’t really know what others are thinking about you. Mind reading is just a distraction to playing your best and it can cause you to play tentatively. “I needed to remind myself that even though pitcher is an important position, each player on the team plays an important role in your team’s success.”
You’ll have good days and bad days on the field, everybody does. The key is not to lose confidence after a poor outing. Find something positive from each game and move onto the next. “If you pitch good, you can soak it in that night. You pitch badly and it’s going to hurt that night. That’s the great thing about baseball: You play every day. Tomorrow is a new day,” said Kershaw. Don’t beat yourself up for poor pitching or a loss. A better option is to assess what needs to improve the next game and move forward with a healthy dose of confidence.

Senior right-fielder Erick Magee led hitting going 3-3 with 2 doubles. Sophomore Kevin VanAssleberg went 2-3 with a double. There were only 7 Trojan hits all coming from 4 players .

ASH Baseball Continues Skid; Routed by Tioga 10-3
In what was supposed to be a very promising season with a talented group of juniors, one lone senior who has hit 6 homeruns on the year, and supported by another group of talented sophomores, ASH Baseball has continued the decline.
In last week's contest after getting rained out on Tuesday, ASH had 3 games on 3 consecutive days beginning on Thursday. ASH faced off against Grant and lost their first district game. On Friday, the Trojans travelled to Leesville and won that one to go 1-1. On a beautiful Saturday morning, ASH travelled to Shreveport to face a weak Loyola team and lost that one 3-2 to go 1-2 on the week.
In tonight's contest against 3-time defending champs Tioga Indians, the Trojans gave up 4 unearned runs getting routed 10-3. ASH after owning the district for 19 years has not won the district but 2 times in the last 8 years and has not won district since 2008. ASH Baseball has made the playoffs every year for the last 27 years but is now poised to missed the playoffs for the first time. Before tonight's game ASH was on the bubble at #30 with the seeding required to be in the Top 32 to make the playoffs. It is uncertain at this time whether ASH can find the right combination and chemistry to get things going in a positive direction. ASH record goes to 7-12, and 1-2 in district 3-4A.

ASH Opens ASH Invitational with Loss to Pineville 5-4
For the 3rd meeting of the year, ASH Baseball has put up the 3rd loss to the cross river Pineville Rebels.
In the first meeting at the opening tournament of the year, ASH faced Pineville in the DeRidder Dragon Classic on Saturday and lost to a walk-off homerun in the 8th inning 2-1. In a made-up unscheduled game last weekend due to the rain cancellation of the Red River Prep Classic, ASH played the Rebels last Saturday on one of the only dry fields in Cenla. ASH lost that game in 9-innings 3-2.
In the opening round of the ASH Invitational ASH was on target to finally get a win against the Rebels until an error-riddled 6th inning changed the outcome of the game.
Starting pitcher Josh Breazeale had yet another solid outing pitching 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs with 3 strike-outs, 1-walk, and 1-hit batter. The only hiccup was when Pineville put two hits together in the 3rd inning. Eight-hole hitter Sandoval hit a single through the middle to open the top of the 3rd. Breazeale struckout the 9-hole hitter Taylor Courville to get back to the top of the line-up. On a 2-0 count lead-off hitter centerfielder Colton Strickland hit right center 2-run homer. Breazeale retired the next 2 batters to end the inning.
ASH got on the board in the 2nd inning when pitcher Breazeale led off with a infield single. T.J. Gorum hit a double to advance pinch runner McQuillin to 3rd. Then catcher Chris Lachney hit a 2-RBI single to right field to score McQuillin and Gorum. Timothy Mathews reached base on a 4-pitch walk. Centerfielder Kevin Van Assleberg followed with a 2-RBI double scoring Lachney and Mathews. ASH jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings.
The short interval of the 6th inning of some mishaps tarnished an otherwise well-played game. Left-fielder T.J. Gorum made a remarkable play when he ran into the visitor's bullpen to chase down a long foul flyball to get the first out of the 2nd inning. Gorum made another good running catch when he had to travel a distance to chase down a left-field line fly ball in the 4th inning. With a lead of 4-2 going into the top of the 6th inning, Pineville sophomore pitcher T.J. Moreau reached base on an error. The next batter reached base on a hit pitch. Six-hole hitter Martin hit into a potential double-play ball that was overthrown and the Trojans were unable to get a single out. Pineville scored 3 unearned runs in the 6th to take the lead 5-4.
ASH went down 1-2-3 in the 6th. Relief pitcher Erick Magee held the Rebels to no runs in the 7th giving ASH a chance with their last at-bat. Catcher Lachney led off the 7th with a walk. Shortstop Timothy Mathews then laid down a sac-bunt to advance Lachney to scoring position. With two opportunities to score the tying run, the ASH hitters could not manage a hit with the sophomore Rebel pitcher Moreau pitching a complete game.
Game 1 on Friday at 5:00 PM will feature Pineville vs. Buckeye. ASH will face Live Oak at 7:30 for the nightcap. ASH will face Buckeye in Game 1 Saturday morning at 10:00. There will be two more games at 12 & 2 featuring Live Oak, Buckeye, and Pineville.

GAME 1
ASH Baseball got back to action today against a scrappy Jena Giants team with some good pitching. After beating the Pineville Rebels 7-3 in their first game, the Giants took on the Trojans and held them to 2 runs until the 7th inning.
The Trojans held the Giants scoreless in the first 3 2/3 innings as starter Josh Breazeale retired 11 of the first 12 batters allowing only 1 hit. The only runs Breazeale allowed was in the 4th inning when clean-up hitter Tyler Anderson hit a right-center field two-out double followed by a 2-run homer by the Giants pitcher Stevens. Breazeale then retired the next 4 batters until he gave up his 4th hit of the game, a single up the middle. Jacoby Bonton relieved Breazeale after 5 2/3 innings and shut the Giants down striking out 3 of the next 4 batters in 1 1/3 innings. Bonton was credited with the win when the Trojans went ahead in the 7th inning to win 3-2.
The Trojans offense was led by Kevin VanAssleberg going 2-3 as the only player to get multi-hits while driving in 2 runs. Conner Debevec drove in the other run going 1=3. Secondbaseman Blake Painter went 1-2 scoring 2 of the 3 runs for the Trojans.

GAME 2
In game 2, the Pineville Rebels quickly got on the board when lead-off hitter Colton Strickland hit a double and was driven in by the 3-hole hitter Soileau. Starting pitcher Trace Carter only allowed 2 hits in the first inning and 1 hit in the 2nd to follow by 5 innings of no-hit baseball. With game tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, Carter went into the 8th inning allowing 2 hits but did not allow any runs to score.
ASH answered the Rebels 1st inning run with a lead-off double by right-fielder T.J. Gorum. Gorum was batted in by catcher Chris Lachney who singled up the middle. The Pineville pitcher then retired the next 6 Trojans until Jacob Dauzat hit a single in the 5th inning. Kevn VanAssleberg got his 2nd hit of the game in the 6th inning but no one was able to drive him in. With the score tied 1-1 the Trojans went into the 8th inning, lead-off hitter Timothy Mathews managed a hit in front of the plate with the catcher not making a throw to first. Kevin VanAssleberg executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runner to 2nd in scoring position. Pineville decided not to pitch to Erick Magee and put him on base with an intentional walk. Conner Debevec came up and hit a 1-out short fly ball single that held up the runners from advancing 2 bases to score. With the bases loaded second baseman Blake Painter came to the plate and with a 2-2 pitch count hit what should have been a sacrifice fly to right field to score the go-ahead run. Unfortunately the runner thought there was 2 outs and did not tag up in time to score. However, the Trojans had one more chance with left-fielder T.J. Gorum came to the plate. Gorum could not get a hit to score the run.
Starting pitcher Trace Carter continued his performance into the 8th inning allowing 2 hits but held the Rebs to no runs. In the 9th the Trojans managed to get a runner on base when Chris Lachney reached on a error but no one managed to move him around.
Aaron Armstrong came on in the 9th to relieve Carter. Lead-off hitter Colton Strickland walked and 2-hole hitter Zachary Faircloth was intentionally walked. Three-hole hitter Soileau laid down a bunt to 3rd and outrun the throw to first for a hit. With bases loaded and no outs, Hewett hit dribbler to third and the runner beat out the throw to home to win the game 2-1.

Red River Prep Classic Rained Out: ASH play 2 games at Pineville Today
In an effort to beat the rains ASH Baseball moved Saturday's game to 3:15 on Thursday. ASH got in only 3 innings against Rosepine and had mounted a 7-4 lead and was batting in the bottom of the 3rd inning when rains stopped the contest. In an unofficial game because of not completing enough innings, senior right fielder/pitcher Erick Magee blasted his 6th homerun of the season, a 2-run towering homer over right centerfield.
Very unfortunate to all 4 baseball programs (ASH, Menard, Pineville, and Tioga) as this tournament was a major fund-raiser for the programs.
Local teams are trying to get some games in this weekend and the forecast appears to allow some games this afternoon. Menard is travelling to Tioga to play.
ASH Baseball is travelling to Rebel Field in Pineville to pick-up two games. ASH will face off against the Jena Giants at 1:00 PM and face the Pineville Rebels at 4:00 PM. Come out to support your local teams.

Former Jena star introduced as ASH football coach
Jeff Fitzgerald got the red carpet treatment Friday afternoon at Alexandria Senior High School.
The school's new football coach and athletics director was introduced to the public at a Mardi Gras-themed pep rally held in the school's gymnasium. The band played on as cheerleaders threw beads, shirts and cups into the stands which were filled with hundreds of students and teachers.
If that was not enough of a welcoming, the new Trojans coach was formally introduced by Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy.
The excitement of the event was felt by many in attendance.
"We just felt Coach Fitzgerald was the best candidate for the job," ASH Principal Duane Urbina said. "We are thrilled to have him."
"I am really excited," said ASH junior linebacker Dominque Lavalais, one of the team's top college prospects. "I'm glad they hired someone with his amount of experience."
Fitzgerald brings both playing and coaching experience to the job, and it is at both the high school and college levels. The Jena native was a four-year starter playing tail back and safety in the mid-1990's at Jena High School. Fitzgerald played three seasons as a linebacker and safety at Louisiana-Monroe, until concussions ended his college career.
He shifted to coaching, serving as a student assistant for ULM from 1999-2000. He spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. He then returned to Louisiana, serving as defensive coordinator at Ouachita High from 2005-06, as the team reached the Class 4A semifinals in 2005.
For the past five seasons, he has been the defensive coordinator at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a Division II program located in Durant, Oklahoma.
For Fitzgerald, the decision to return to Central Louisiana was an easy one.
"They have a great tradition here," said Fitzgerald, who still has family living in the area.
"ASH is known for producing high-quality citizens."
Fitzgerald replaces Chris Gatlin who resigned Jan. 7 to take an assistant coaching job at Ruston High School.
Gatlin, who played for ASH coach Butch Stoker in the 1980's, posted a 29-16 record in his four seasons at the helm of the Trojans. The program made the playoffs all four seasons, won two district championships and reached the quarterfinals this past season.
Urbina knew it was key to hire Fitzgerald as soon as he could, that way the new coach could hit the ground running.
"The offseason is when you build your team for the next season," Urbina said. "That is when you build championships."
Even though the defensive-minded coach won't officially start work until Feb. 27th, he is anxious to put his mark on the Trojans program.
"I can't wait to get here and get started," Fitzgerald said.
"We are going to have a high level of intensity out there on the field. We will be known for being the most physical team on the field."

ASH Official Practices Underway
ASH Baseball is officially begun. A total of 14 freshmen showed up to give a shot to trying out for the ASH Baseball team. ASH Baseball continues to be a popular sport for which many desire to participate. The ASH Baseball program again has high expectations to begin the season returning many talented young players consisting mainly of juniors and sophomores. With many of these players growing up together and all in the "travel ball" age, are very familiar with each other and many played together on championship travel teams.
The competition was tough for the new players and competing in 4A baseball is a challenge.

ASH Trojan Field gets more Capital Improvements for 2012 Season
ASH Baseball program continues to make capital improvements to enhance the experience and raise the level of playing. In what is already one of the most talked about baseball complexes for prep baseball in Louisiana, ASH continues to make improvements that beautify the field and raise the bar.
For 2012 there is been a total refurbishing and expansion of both home and visitor dugouts. The home dugout which will be a bricked structure has been enlarged and set back from the baseline. It has a net for protection and a pro-style bench for players.
These improvements will give more room for the players and coaches as well as space for equipment storage. The set back off the field gives the home crowd a better view of the right field area without obstruction.
Thanks to Ray Morrow owner of Stalnaker Construction that has been the lead developer of the project.
CHANGE OF SEASON
In the first year for the new LHSAA season rules changes, the ASH Baseball program will not begin official practice until January 23, 2012. This shaves off about 3 weeks of much needed practice to prepare the players for the season.
Coach Tomlin is encouraged with the amount of young talent he has returning and believes that the 2012 Trojans can experience success.
