ASH Goes 1-3 in Trey Alltick Classic
In the usually tough tournament held in Northeast Louisiana each year, the Bayou State Prep Classic renamed the Trey Alltick Classic in memory of the fallen Neville player two years ago, hosted 40 teams broken in to two brackets. ASH played in the 4-A and 5-A bracket while there was a separate bracket for the 3-A and below. In Game 1 Thursday night played at West Ouachita, the Trojans faced West Ouachita on their home field. The Trojans had beaten the Chiefs earlier at the DeRidder tournament. Senior pitcher Carter Ward took the mound and went 2.1 innings giving up only 3 hits and had 3 strikeouts. However, the 8 walks got him in trouble and got his pitch count up and was relieved by the bullpen. Ward got his first loss of the season. The Trojans out hit the Chiefs 13-10 with Will Taylor going 3-3 and Cody Lafluer, Jake Vercher, and Carter Ward all going 2-4. The Trojans made a galant comeback effort plating 5 runs in the top of the 7th but it wasn't enough as the Chiefs won 12-9. In Game 2 Friday played at Ouachita High, the Trojans faced South Terrebonne. Junior Ross Harris pitched a fantastic game going 6.1 innings giving up only 2 runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. ASH held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the 7th only to give up 2 runs and get the loss. Hitting was sparse with Cody Warren, Joe Messina, and Carter Ward getting 1 hit each. ASH lost 4-3. In Game 3 Saturday morning ASH faced top 10 ranked Lutcher with Junior Danny Marrazzo taking the mound. Marrazzo got beat up in the 1st inning giving up 5 runs but pitched a solid game for the next 5 innings holding Lutcher in check. He went 6 innings giving up 7 runs on 10 hits, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. Hitting was again low as Hunter Finn (1-2), Erik Magee (1-1, 2b), and Matt Gibson (1-1) led the Trojans' hitting. Game 4 Saturday afternoon finally got the Trojans in the "W" column. ASH faced off against powerhouse Benton with Senior John Hyde(3-0) pitching a complete game giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts to earn his third win of the season. ASH outhit Benton 9-5 with Ross Harris(2-3), Cody Lafluer(2-4), and Jake Vercher(Homerun) leading the way. March 4th @ West OuachitaR H E ASH (4-1) 1030005 9 13 2 W. Friday's Games Rained-out
Friday's Deridder tournament games were rained out. The Trojans will play the 2 scheduled games tomorrow weather permitting. Friday, February 26
ASH Opens DeRidder Tournament with Win over Leesville 6-2
In the opening round of the tournament play, the ASH Trojans opened with a win over district foe Leesville Wampus Cats. Jr. Ross Harris started and pitched 6 innings of baseball giving up 6 hits, striking out 5, walking 2 and only allowing 2 runs to earn his first win of the young season. James Couvillier closed not allowing a run. Hitting continued to be good as the Trojans got 8 hits with Jr. Cody Lefluer going 2-4 (2-2B) for the second straight game. Jr. Joey Messina continued his hard hitting going 1-2 with a homerun after nearly going yard at the Tioga Jamboree last Saturday. A total of 7 Trojans got a hit on the day. Next up for the Trojans is St. Michaels in a late game Friday night. Monday, February 22
ASH Baseball Opens with Win over Jena 11-1
The ASH Trojan bats continued their work that started at the Tioga Jamboree Saturday when they 10-runned Class C preseason ranked #2 Grace Christian Warriors. The bats continued their heat tonight as the Trojans began scoring in the 1st inning and didn't slow until they got the 11th run in the bottom of the 5th with no outs to win the game against the Jena Giants on the 10-run rule. Senior starting pitcher John Hyde looked sharp tonight in his first outing throwing the heat working 83-86 and touching 88 mph that had the Giants wagging their bats all the way back to the dugout. Hyde only gave up 2-hits and 1 earned run in 5 innings of work for a complete game. The defense didn't have to do much work tonight as few balls were put in play but when they did, the defense looked different than it did last year starting the season with no errors. If the bats continue to be hot with good sharp pitching and good defense, the 2010 ASH Trojans will be a force to be reckoned with. (ASH Baseball has scored 21 runs in the last 9+ innings of play) The team welcomed back tonight juniors Cody Lefleur and Hunter Finn who just brought the ASH soccer team to the semi-finals and lost a heart-breaker to St. Louis last Saturday 3-0. Lefleur played 3rd base and went 2-3 with 2 doubles tonight. ASH will see action again in the DeRidder tournament playing 4 games beginning this Thursday. Saturday, February 20
Season Starts Monday
After 6-weeks of practice, scrimmages, and jamborees, the 2010 ASH Baseball season is about to begin. The Trojans will have a home opener Monday at Trojan Field against the Class 3-A Jena Giants. The Trojans faced Buckeye last week and had no trouble disposing of the Panthers in the first scrimmage. Then they traveled to Lafayette to face the Class 5-A Lafayette Lions. After too many strikeouts-looking and not getting a hit until the 4th inning, Coach Daniel Tomlin made some adjustments and they showed today in the Tioga Jamboree. Neighboring Class C Grace Christian that is located about 3 blocks away requested to play the ASH Trojans today in the Tioga Jamboree which had 8 teams playing on a beautiful sunny Saturday. It is the first time that the two have ever faced off on the diamond despite being located so closely. The Warriors got a taste of some 4-A baseball when the Trojans chased the Warrior's ace starting pitcher from the mound in the 2nd inning after scoring 3 in the first and putting 2 runs on base in the 2nd. Those 2 runs scored and the Trojans went on to score 10 runs in 5 innings and allow most of the Trojans on the bench to get an at bat. A couple of deep fly balls by Sr. Cody Warren and Jr. Cole Simpson met a head wind that prevented them from going out of the park and could have blown the game open. Starting pitcher Jr. Ross Harris did a good job of striking out most of the Warriors with Jr. Danny Marrazzo relieving and Jr. James Couvillier closing to complete the shut-out. Seniors Carter Ward or John Hyde is expected to start Monday against the Jena Giants. Sunday, February 14

New ASH Baseball Entry Gate
ASH Baseball has yet another capital improvement to Trojan Field making it not only the finest high school baseball field in the Central Louisiana area but contending with being one of the best facilities in the state. Thanks to Mr. Ray Morrow of Stalnaker Construction in Pineville, a new black wrought iron entry gate with "ASH" and a Trojan head with "Trojan Baseball" has been built. Mr. Morrow has been a staunch supporter of ASH Baseball as his company built the metal fencing on the outfield walls and the left field and right field chain link fencing. Recent capital improvements include: 1)Covered/lighted batting cages, 2)Outfield wall, 3)scoreboard, 4)brick/netting backstop, 5)concrete walk around, and 6)irrigation system. The grand entry gate reveals a deep rooted belief in ASH Baseball and the continued desire for excellence. ASH Baseball has always been competitive on the diamond and has also had recent teams with honor students, high GPAs, top 10% members, and Valedictorians and Salutatorians. ASH Baseball has had many alumni bring their baseball skills to the next level playing college baseball and some even to the next level of professional baseball. Current Coach Daniel Tomlin and Asst.
